16 YEAR OLD POINT OF VIEW

Absoloubtly fantastic!! if you like night life you'll love puerto rico!! There's loads on offer for the 16 - 30's, and then there's the bars which cater for the more older, who dont mind a bit of noise!! The best bar for me was 'Jokers', brilliant atmosphere and great music...and it didnt close till 7am!! can't say i managed to stay up that late though!! Thankfully, Haiti apartments were away from the noisy commercial centre; a good 10 to 20 minute walk on a hill but if you go during the day its safer to take a taxi due to the heat. The apartments were clean, and thats it really. The pool was disusting; some lads i met from the apartments who had been there a week before myself had ear infections as did some of the other kids, and they all seemed to think it came from swimming in the pool...which wouldn't surprise me!however, i think it turned out to be because they were unable to get a pool guy in to get it cleaned or sometihng...

the beach was 166 steps away, but guys... seriously... u had to get a taxi!? thats rreeeaaalllllyyyy pathetic, yeah ok it was quite far but it wasnt that bad!! good bit of exercise!! As for exploring the island i didn't do much, my parents did hire a car and i know they went to Mogan on a really nice walk around teh harbour, as they unfortunately hated the resort as they like quiet, relaxing places..but they had been on their holiday before hand and this one was for me and my brother!! for food, there was good selection but not brilliant, a lot of steak houses, but to get a good deal you should try the chinese restaurants, all you can eat for about 4.80 euros, except the drinks are about double the meal! the sunbeds on the beach where about 9 euros for two and an umbrella, which i thought was a decent price if you were going to stay there all day!

all in all, if you like loud and bustling places with lots of things to do, whthere thats watching the footy in many of the english bars and pubs or dancing till the early morn...you will love puerto rico!! and i am definately thinking of returning next year with my friends for a girly holiday!! a million out of ten for the resort...its juts a shame the apartments wernt' fantastic but i dont mind becaus ei had suhc a brill holiday!!

Just got back from 1 week at the Haiti, must say we were a little worried about staying here as we had read a few negative reviews, however I am quite fussy about where we stay and I must admit I found the Haiti yes a little dated but extremely clean, maids came in 5 times a week and did a fantastic job!. (By the way didnt see one cockroach). 

If you are looking for something nice to eat I would recommend Ciao Ciao italian restaurant at amadores beach excellent food, also San Miguels at the commercial centre do a fantastic steak and excellent value for money. On the down side avoid the endless time share touts and the people trying to get you to eat in there restaurants they become a real pain just dont make eye contact with them and keep walking. It was 40 degrees most days when we were there so smother the kids in sun lotion as a few children had to go to the pharmacy for burns even though they had lotion on and had been covered up. 

All in all had a fantstic time at Puerto Rico and at the Haiti and would go back again, only wished we had booked for 10 days and not 7!.

My/Our Holiday Opinion: 

9-16th May.
The temperature averaged around 30 degrees and was lovely and sunny.

The resort is absolutley lovely.  Not a lot to see culture wise, but still, a lovely relaxing holiday.

There is a comercial centre around 35 minutes walk away, with loads of bars and restaurants.  Try the Taj curry house or Lineka's Bar.

There are also loads of bars and restaurants along the beach and harbour.

Although the beach and harbour are only around 5/10 minutes stoll away, you do need to walk down (on the way to the beach) and up a lot of steps.

As all the hotels and apartments are built into the cliffs, it's understandable that a bit of a walk is involved.

This is quite nice though.  Just remember to wear some comfy shoes.

The apartment is lovely and spacious.  Somehow, sand seems to get everywhere though, so bring some flip flops, slipper socks or something for your feet!

The T.v has euro sport and CNN News.  the rest is in Spanish and you need to put coins in the telly to operate it.

You can only really hear the road if you are sitting on the balcony.  It isn't too bad, and at night you can hear the sea.

If you decide to go to the europa centre, get a taxi.  It is a REALLY steep walk.  Only 2.90 in a taxi too.  The best places to go is the Comercial centre and crazy golf!

The boat trips out of the harbour are really nice too.

We will definately consider staying here again.

My/Our Holiday Opinion: 

This was our 2nd visit to Puerto Rico but decided as we didnt have any children with us, we would try somewhere else other than the EDEN APTS which we were in last year.
The HAITI was everything we expected really. Clean, tidy, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, living and kitchen area,The view from our 4th floor balcony was fantastic. (room 401). Towels were replaced 2/3 times a week. Room was cleaned 5 days a week (not Tues/Sun).

The restaurant and bar are run as a seperate entity to the hotel and we used the restaurant area for the 'breakfast' on a couple of occaisions,(thought it was rather expensive @ e.4.80 for 1 small slice of bacon, 1 sausage, 2 eggs and a few beans, 2 toast and 1 cup of tea)you get twice as much down near the beach @ 'FAT CATS'. I went and used the bar just once! There is a 'happy hour' between 9-10 pm where drinks are advertised as 'buy one get one free' what they dont say is that you only get this offer on local beers and spirits, so dont say you were'nt warned!!
One of the best places we found for our evening meal was 'Las Vegas' on the top storey in the commercial centre (15 mins walk or e2.70 by taxi). Fillet mignion for just e12.50!!

ok now for the excurtions.........We booked 2 with our rep. The vip island tour was one. it looks and sounds expensive when you are told about it e70.00 per person. BUT... It was worth EVERY CENT!! Pick up @your hotel 0830. drop off 1700-1730. an excellent day with a very competent guide, giving you a thrilling and knowledgable commentary about ALL aspects of GRAN CANARIA life. All in the perfect comfort of an air conditioned people carrier, ITS A MUST!

The 2nd excurtion we booked through our rep was a night out to 'GARBO'S'. a brilliant night was had by about 300 people, being entertained with songs from the shows. A night that would be as good(even better)than some London west end shows.The rest of our days out were booked directly by ourselves as we found it to be cheaper that way.

The camel riding in Maspalomas was hilarious, i didnt personally get on one but my wife and one of our friends did! @e10.00 for 45 mins its well worth it, (id have paid more than that just to see them get up and down again!!
The YELLOW SUBMARINE trip to Mogan is a total waste of time in our opinion, you cant see a thing when you do get down there! you get to see more by looking into the harbour water at some of the fish etc in mogan harbour. Friday morning is the best time to go there, (by ferry from puerto rico e9.00 return) The 0930 ferry is very busy so get there around 9 ish.When your at the market, ignore all the prices your told, my wife never payed more than e10.00 for ANYTHING!! HAGGLE HAGGLE HAGGLE, then HAGGLE again  lol

Last but by no means least was our Dolphin trip.We have been successfull two years running in seeing dolphins, both times we were on the 'SPIRIT OF THE SEA' booked directly by us at a cost of e21.00 per person but remember.... you are NOT guaranteed to see the dolphins or whales, they dont have maps or use watches lol. a little tip on how successfull the previous trip has been is to look for the 'tip bucket'' on the boat as people are getting off. If the 'tip bucket' is there, a successfull trip..... no bucket= no sightings.

One last thing in my 'monologue' is... try THE STEPS! Get a taxi up to the hotel with a ship on top of it, walk about 10yds back down the hill and you will see where 'THE STEPS' begin...ALL 670 of them!! nearly all of them are downhill, just a few that go up. from start (the ship hotel) to finish(the beach @ puerto rico).

All in all we had a great 2 weeks of sun, sea. sand, and adventure with 2 great friends. thnx graham & glenda

just arrived back from puerto rico after 2 wonderful weeks.

Whad a two bedroom apartment at the Haiti apartments, they were a little dated with the decor but very clean,maid service 5 days a week,towels changed most days.Everything you need for a self catering apartment,kettle toaster and even a coffee maker in the room,the only thing to complain about was the tv didnt work properly(my hubby complaining).

It is close to all amenities,but be warned there are 166 steps to get to them,it is near a road which can get busy but after a few days it doesnt seem to bad.The view of the harbour compensates for the road noise anyway.Didnt use the restaurant much only for breakfast(didnt think much of that).Best place for breakfast we found was FAT CAT'S on the beach front down a few steps,meals are very good and quite reasonable.Best place for a meal out at night was LAS VEGAS upstairs in the commercial centre,excellent steaks,not as cheap as some places but well worth the money.A nice little snack place we found was the green golf snack bar near La Tango just outside the commercial centre.

Some of the tours on offer from our rep were;island tour vip(EXCELLENT),you don't realise the views and the island till you've been on this tour,Garbo's which was one of the best nights out i have had for a very long time,the show opens again in July.We used the ferries alot to get about  and down by the harbour are all the day boat trips.We went on the SPIRIT OF THE SEA to see the dolphins and were not disappointed,if you see the tip bucket on the front of the boat when it comes in then they have been successful but just ask and they will tell you anyway.

The Yellow submarine in mogan was a bit of a let down,not worth the money but an experience anyway.Markets abundant,plenty of bargains but never pay the price they ask always try to barter with them ,usually works,i got some great bargains and never paid the full price for them.

All in all we had a fantastic two weeks and will definitely be returning to both puerto rico and the Haiti apartments.

This is out third time we've been to Haiti and the sixth time we've been to Puerto Rico and again the only slightly disapointing thing was the weather. For early feb the weather should be in the late twenties everyday, for us it only managed that on a couple of days- the rest was around 22 degrees. Having said this, these apartments are great. We book the same room each year and are never disappoinnted. The rooms are noisy with the road in the day but if you weight this up with the apartments further in the resort basin having music from the commercial centre until 4am (we know- stayed in Cala Nova and Puerto Feliz) then a bit of noise in the day's not too bad. We spent all of our days sunbathing, swimming and walking.

This apartments are only for the fit. I saw many people getting taxis to the bottom of the resort and thought this was a total waste of money and a bit of a kop out. It only takes less than 10 minutes to walk to the commercial centre. Who would want to go to the commercial cantre anyway? It's like Blackpool but some chavs seems to like that. Beyond me.

The best place to eat is Restaurante Gran Canaria on the beach. Not many tourists and a fabulous singer called Phillipe.
We had a great time, just what I needed after University finals. I choose to come away at that time because I expect there to be no screaming brats of kids away at that time. But yet again, there were about 15 children around the pool.
I did not go on a bank holiday, or a half term so I can only assume that the parents wanted to save a a few pounds and take their little darlings out of school. Do me a favour and only holiday in out of term times.

the location of the haiti is good the view from our balconys was fantastic our rooms on 3rd floor were very spacious new bathroom no cockroachers toaster kettle etc pool gets the sun all day snak bar the resteraunt has just gone to new owners a very lively spanish guy who calls every one shitty he does good food we went to the barby on tuesday food was brill he is realy trying to get the complex goin he has a happy hour every day 4-5 just installed new pool tables etc we spent 14 days fantastic weather loads of bars 1 euro a pint 2 euro alcopops to name a few sinatras charlies bar buddys we have come to puerto rico on and off since 1987 seen many changes our favorite resteraunt is los gerianos on the 2nd level commercial center just up the steps by the side of the guy who does engraved plaques

for a good day out get down to the harbour and take the full day trip on the delfin cat free bar chicken dinner and free water sports 30 euro the water park in puerto rico used to be fantastic value however it has now changed hands and the price has doubled if you want a water park go to maspalomas it is fantastic it takes about 10 mins to walk to the center 3 euro taxi ride we have always stayed near the commercial center before the noise at times can be bad but at the haiti it is quiet 

if we can get the same deal as this year in thomsons january sale we payed 289 pouds each then we will be back next year a great place

Just back from PR for the fourth time, so obviously we like the resort.This was our first time at Haiti. Previously we have gone to Colina Mar at the top of the resort. When we arrived, I commented to Thomson rep Katie, that we would miss the view, which we normally had from the Colina Mar. We were headed for the ground floor, but she got our room  changed to the third floor.The view over the harbour was brilliant.If you are looking for a sea view from the Haiti, it has to be 3rd, 4th or 5th floor.

We were impressed with the apartment, spacious, clean, well-equipped, and everything worked. The complex itself was clean and basic. Pool and pool area was clean if a bit on the small side .
There is a restuarant on site, but we never used it.              
Staff were helpful and friendly,particularly Thomas on reception, and Katie the Thomson rep.Our maid kept the rooms very clean.

The Haiti is well-placed for the beach and harbour, but is definitely not for anyone with even miner walking difficulties. 116 steps down to the beach. (I counted them, but there seemed more on the way back up, but that might have been due to the alcohol )

It is also well-placed for the very pleasant walk round the headland to the new Amadores beach.
One minus for me was the traffic noise from the main road between apartments and the beach.
There are quite a few good restuarants / bars round the beach and harbour, if you don't want to venture into the Commercial Centre. Oscars,Waikiki,Hawaii,Bit Corner, Gran Canaria to name a few. One small pub- type bar near the harbour, Harbour Lights was good if you like karaoke, quiz, etc.(and the measures were incredible)  

We had a great time and all in all thought the Haiti was good value for money.

the apartments were very basic and looked liked you had walked into an eighties time warp, but had all the essential elctrical equipment, BUT NO AIR CON. and it was 42 degrees on our first day, so had to hire a fan which cost 10 euros for 4 days with a 10 euro deposit.unfortunatly we were on the ground floor so everyone walked past our bedroom window on their was to the pool, so couldn't leave it open at night, and had a few cockroaches visiting us during the night, but are as common over there as ants our to us.

The cleaner was a little too thorough for our liking, she kept putting things away and it took us the rest of the next day to find them again.
If you like walkig you will be fine but be warned the steps to the beach are awful and are much worse than they are stated to be
receptionist thomas and rep katie were very helpful when we had some idiots in the room above decided to have a party at 3am and were sick over the balcony on to ours and were throwing emty beer cans over, we didnt hear a wisper out of them again.

The trip to garbo's is a must the talent is remarkable, the camels trip was a bit odd, and the spirit of the sea trip to see the dolphins was a complete disaster, 21 euros each to spent 2 hours on a boat being thrown about on the sea and watching 30 people throw up in front of you is not my idea of fun!!
Bahia playa was a fantastic resturant and very reasonably priced, the garage bar in the commercial centre was good fun.
Dicey reillys is a lovely place for a drink, it's about the only place that does't drag you in agains't your will.

Watch out for the time share people who will try every trick in the book to get you sucked in. ANFI DEL MAR are the ones to avoid, they will offer you endless free gifts and take you on a short tour of their appartments WHAT A JOKE, 5 hours later you might get away.
or there is another company who tell you that you have won a holiday and just need to spend 30 minutes with you to book it, steer clear of them they are also time share agents

Having never been to Puerto Rico before, we didn't know what to expect especially as we normally holiday in Cyprus. 

The apartments were basic (but clean) however we had to ask for larger towels on three occasions.  Beware of the miserable receptionist and also the non existent rep for the tour company - we relied on advice from an English girl working on the day trip kiosk.  The apartments are 10 minutes from the main beach were there is an abundance of sunbeds however we would recommend taking the coastal path to Amdoroes beach - its beautiful and has fewer locals.  

The resort itself caters for everyone, however we did find the commercial centre quite dirty!!  The Puerto Ricans really lack manners, even those who can speak good English!  We did find a fantastic restaurant beside the Harbour called Oscars - definitely well worth a visit!  It is also worth visiting the water park in maspalomos to a fun filled day out!!  

If we were to return to Gran Canaria we would be staying in the Gloria Palace - an amazing hotel!!!!!

We stayed for a week at the Heliomar, which we really enjoyed, was one of the best holidays ive ever had. The room was very clean and had everything you need for a self catering holiday. We were right at the top of the apartments, so had loads of steps to walk up and down, but there is a lift if needed. There are lots of bars and restuarants in the bottom shopping centre, i would recommend trying a restuarant called pinocchio's its italian and served beautiful food.

The beach is also quite close by which is ok but would definately reccomend going to amadores beach instead its alot quieter and cleaner. there is nothing at all that i could pick fault with, we had a fantastic time in puerto rico and will be returning back next summer. i would definately reccomend it!

on arriving to the heliomar after a short car ride we went straight to the reception to be greeted by not one of the most freindliest staff in the world her attitude was terrible we were almost frightened to ask for our key to our apartment in fear of getting our heads bitten off.  We were one of the lucky ones in our block of apartments as thier was around 5 burgularys during the 2 weeks we wre there, this didnt make us feel very safe as every one who was burgled were in the apartment whilst asleep.

The Heliomar apartments are very well situated for the town centre.Maid service every second day.The receptionist was not pleasant,very grumpy.Churchills is the best place for good home cooking.We will be going back in february to puerto rico as the town has something for everyone.

Myself and my famly stayed at the Heliomar for 14 nights.  Our apartment had two bedrooms and was very spacious and quite clean, the pool was clean and had a resturant and bar where you could have something to eat.  

However there was a few big downfalls to staying at the Heliomar the first being no air conditioning the rooms were very very hot at night you just could not sleep although there are fans avalable at reception if there are any left. 

The second downfall at the heliomar is the burgularys which took place while we stayed there in total four, luckily we were not one of them, do not under any circumstances leave your patio doors open at night as the thiefs come in while you are asleep. 

The puerto rico resort has plenty of resturants and bars and some lovely beaches.

Arrived at 4-00 pm and reception was closed until 6-00 pm We were given a map and a key by the rep and she then shot off . Absolutely no help was available in finding the apt or carrying our cases up plenty of stairs. No air-con means hot sweaty nights even with the help of the (6 euro hire charge)fan. Everything you needed had a charge eg Kettle, Toaster, Safety Deposit, Slot Meter TV (that incidentally wasn't worth watching)etc.

There are 2 receptionists that alternate duties. The pleasant English girl who couldn't be more friendly, and then there was..... The Receptionist From Hell, a woman who treated you like you had just fallen of the sole of her shoe.

There is a "supermarket" adjoining the apartments that sells everything that you don't need and absolutely nothing that you do need. A walk down the 69 steps to either Netto or Spar in the commercial centre was required for any half-decent groceries etc.

Anyway, having said this, we actually did like the resort of Puerto Rico, the weather was absolutely fantastic for early October. (31 deg C most days.)
But you must get a hotel or apartment on the level with beach / harbour.

My/Our Holiday Opinion: 

The Heliomar is centrally located and close to a large number of restraunts and shops, approximately a 10 min walk down several steps.

The apartments are quite spacious,well maintained and cleaned regularly. There are two pools (one is very busy), a pool bar which serves a limited menu and an onsite supermarket.

The staff were very friendly, although the receptionist could be a bit abrupt!

The only downside of our apartment was that our patio door didn't lock properly. Unfortunately we didn't discover this until 3 days into our holiday when we were robbed in the middle of the night, whilst asleep. Although we had paid for the use of a saftey deposit box, the thief rummaged around until he found the key! Brass neck,or what?

The beach is only a 15 minute walk away. But be warned, avoid the African women who hang about at all costs.  They will offer to shake your hand and make chit chat and the next thing you know they've put a bracelet on your wrist which you cannot remove. My/Our Holiday Opinion: 

Booked a Sundeal allocated on arrival holiday, and was placed in the Inagua. Had been to Pueto Rico once before, and stayed the other side of the resort, near the Europa centre, so it was nice to be somewhere a little more out of the way. In fact, I didn't even know the Inauga was there, but it was 12 years ago when I last visited. The welcome meeting had someone from a timeshare company attending, offering discounts on Thomas Cook trips if you visit them. They were not pushy, but I was not impressed by their presence in the first place.

Reception was not manned continuously, which was a little inconvenient, but in general the Inauga was very good, a comfortable apartment with a nice view, a very efficient fridge/freezer, and was good value for the price paid. The onsite restaurant (by the covered pool) was better than expected, and certainly matched many of the other places to eat out. The pools were fairly small, but it is possible to use the facilities at the complex opposite if you want to have a little more space, as the two places are almost interchangeable. Shops/restaurants could be found in a complex 10 minute walk down the hill, and there was a small supermarket (a bit expensive) in the complex itself. There is a locked gate to restrict access to the accommodation, that provides some level of security. 

The car hire available through reception was not very good, paying middling rates for 3 days hire, I expected something better than a Clio with a dented passenger door, a drivers door that flew open without warning when negotiating sharp bends (of which there are plently in the interior of the island!), a boot that didn't lock and no aircon, with signs that someone had tried to break into it in the past. However, it did transport us all around the island without breaking down. If you are driving around the island, going west from Puerto Rico it is scenic but slow going with twisty roads and not much chance to overtake, so allow plenty of time. Getting to the north of the island is easier by the motorway around the east side, and a good road along the north of the island.

The resort was much as remembered, the warning of timeshare/other nuisances seen on other review was relevent, but did not cause any problems. Perfume shops in the commercial centre provided some good discounted purchases, and there was a good choice of places to eat and drink. Taxis are cheap, but there can be quite a queue in the late afternoon if you want to return from the beach/centre to your accommodation.

In summary, both the accommodation and the resort were very good (at this time of year), do try to see some of the stunning scenery in the centre of the island if you can.

These apartments should be renamed 'In needofagua' as they are right at the top of the hill!  No seriously, this is a very good apartment complex for those on a tight budget and the walk back up the hill is no where near as bad as other accommodation I've stayed at in Puerto Rico.  Besides a taxi only cost 3 euros from the Commercial Centre and once you get used to the walk you will find you have buns of steel by the end of the week!

The apartments themselves were clean and well maintained.  There are two blocks and we stayed in the newer part.  They are in the Agua La Perra area of the resort, which I'd never stayed in before but would definitely consider again as it's much quieter than the other side of the hill.  There is a small shopping centre 5 mins walk downhill with a Netto Supermarket and some bars and restaurants if you fancy a change from the Commercial Centre.

There are two pools, one covered, but we didn't bother sunbathing there and went straight down to the beach which was only a 10 minute walk away.  By the time you've got down there you've worked up an appetite for breakfast and there are plenty of beach bars to choose from.  You must also go to Amadores Beach which is just a little further round the headland.

I have to say I have been to Puerto Rico seven times now around Xmas and New Year and I don't know what it is about the place but I absolutely love it there at that time of year.  If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Xmas at home then this is the place for you!  It still feels festive as everywhere has Xmas decorations up.  I think I like it so much because the resort is so compact.  Once you're in the Commercial Centre of an evening you can just walk from one bar and restaurant to the next not having to worry about jumping into a cab until you're ready to go back to your apartment.  The more I go here, the more I seem to enjoy it!  I would certainly recommend the Inagua as decent, no-frills accommodation.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

I'd read the reviews on this site and was looking forward to going.  Got there and left outside the apartments by the rep and told too just go and find the reception.  The lady there was lovely and very helpful, although the Spanish chap looked my friend and i up and down as if he thought we were trouble.  I heard there were 2 pools and 2 restaurants here, much to our amazement this wasnt to be, the larger of the restaurants was never open leaving our 'pool bar' to close at 5pm, and the larger swimming pool was closed and drained looked abit like a building site so glad our apartment wasnt near it. We were not notified of this and no apology or explaination given.  The smaller pool looked nice but it was cramped and full of loud obnixious kids. 

The apartment its self was fantastic large open private open area at the front, large living area with nice sofa and chair, tv, and breakfast bar. The kitchen was spacious altough only a 2 ring hob with pans that were too big too put on them. The bathroom was small with only a tiny light.  Bedroom was large and very comfortable.  One bedroom light, the kitchen light, and the shower hose was broken and once reported nothing was done about it.
Needless to say neither myself or my friend spend alot of time here.

The resort itself was fantastic a short walk down the hill to a Netto supermarket and a small complex of restaurants and shops.  I would recommend that you try the first restaurant you come too on the top level, food is great and they are very friendly.

Abit further down the hill is the port where you can get the glass bottomed ferry to Arguinigan or Mogan, and various trips out to sea. We went on the BIG Sea Cat it was ok apart from nobody warned us that the sea would be rough, 20 out of the 40 people on board spent the whole trip being very very sick!

The public swimming pool next to the beach (it was far too hot for the beach)is recommened, lots of space a few stalls and a lovely restaurant/cafe. Just becareful with kids here as the larger of the 2 pools is very deep and not well marked as such.

The best night out you can possibly have is on Friday night at SIOUX CITY.  The wild west town with a free bbq, free bar all night, a country and western music show and an excellent show.

Theres 2 shopping centres in this resort, Europa and Puerto Rico Centre.
Europa is the smaller of the 2, the other you have to watch out for all the salesmen and touts.  Theres a restaurant called San Miguel here and its fantastic.

Taxi's are every where and are cheap, lots of buses.

We all went to puerto rico in november, we have been three times and love it there, this is the first time we stayed at these apartments, but everything was excellent the food, people, everybody was very friendly there are two pools both are good sizes. some of the guests (germans) were very arogant we were in the pool and were telling us to stop spashing but we ignored them and carried on- there isnt much need to get up eary and get sunbeds there were loads so you dont have to turn into a german. the main restaurant on the complex serves really nice food so if you didnt want to go down to the centres then eat there a couple of times....

the centre at the top of the hill is more family orientated than the one at the bottom, but saying that i had my 13yr old brother and he really enjoyed himself at the Garage Bar it is really good and they keep you occupied all night and get everybody joining in..

Stay away from the police.....we saw a very bad fight there involving the police and some holiday makers they dont care about anybody just keep yourselves to yourselves and dont couse trouble

All of the restaurants in both centres are very clean and well presented the chinese buffets are a bargain it wouldnt be worth going all inclusive except for drinks which can be aroung the same price as over here......there is a bar where you can get a pint for 30pence so look out for the bargains

All in All puerto rico is amazing and we will be going again and again but we r going to have a few years break..

not going to say much as everyone else already has.

weve been previously but are going back in august this year, to the same accom. we found it really brilliant!!!! yes it is far out but it does make that quite clear on the internet and in brochures, so theirs no moaning there. going with my mum and boyfriend this year. mums just had a hip replacesment and as we went previuosly we know its not a problem as you can walk down but get a taxi back. it doesnt take a hour to get to the centre, if you walking at a snails pace then yeah. but about 1/2 hour and its a really nice walk as you can see the views of teh harbour and the sea as you are walking.

the center is not like magaluf or anything put they are plenty of famillies and young people there as the nightlife is ok.

i found that it was better out of the way, as the centre is quite loud on an evening and if your just having a relaxing hol then your out of the hustle and bustle in the high season.

after reading other peoples reveiews about other hotels like guanabara park and that people have robbed things from them, all i can say about that is that it happends were ever you go even in your own home. and it obvious not to leave valuables lying aroung, coz would you do that at home, NO!!!!!!!

def go to Mogan, ace market there, plenty of bargains for everyone. also take a visit to the Europa Centre which is situated at the top of the valley. taxi drivers know where it is. plenty of restaurants, bars and fun stuff. also take a trip to the water park, not massive but its funn for kids and adults alike.

thomas cook reps really good, not really based in the hotel but you can reach them easily and when your on holiday you dont really need them.

would def stay in guanabara park after seeing it as it is the same standard and inagua and really nice.

OVERALL OPINION - VIEWS FROM INAGUA WERE ACE, ACCOM NOT TO FAR, CENTRE PLENTY TO DO, OTHER RESORTS WORTH A VISIT, NIGHT LIFE REALLY GOOD.

Jacaranda Apartments has everything for the discerning holiday maker, Karaoke, bingo, unintelligable DJ, ubiquitous Bar-B-Q along with the 'Elvis impersonator',excellent accompaniment to the rare quisine served up, oh and don't forget the cockraoches and hoards of cats trying to gain entry to your apartment at every opportunity. 

The aparments are tatty although new kitchen doors had been fitted (by the looks of it by the proprietors' grandson!)one plug fits all-bathroom sink, kitchen sink, bath and bidet, how hygienic!didn't bother asking for another as it took two days to get extra pillows, well I sat pillows I have a mouse mat that's thicker.One good thing is that there is a notice at reception (up the hill at the sister Corona Rosa Ap't's) warning people of eviction for rowdiness but it didn't stop some, What is that compells some to re-arrange their furniture at 4am? The pool? I've seen baths bigger, and don't bother getting up early to reserve one of the 22 sunbeds as the 'residents' don't rise until lunchtime, well you wouldn't after all that furniture arranging would you?

Puerto Rico, a good 25 minutes 'slide' down the hill is loud, brash, smelly, cheap and festooned with timeshare touts however we did find a good restaurant the Puerto Rico Beach Club, not a burger,fry or kebab in sight and the excellent Amadores beach in the next bay.
Would we go again, not unless we'd had a 'CHAV' transplant!!

I have been visiting Puerto Rico for 15 years  and have stayed in various accomadation this is the first time i have stayed at the laguna apts. If you are a couple or a family group and want a hassle free day to sunbathe and do as you please this is an excellent choice. The apts are basic but having stayed at many others they are very good in comparison  maid service is everyday. There is no pool bar, no food on site or umbrella's by the pool. However the size of your balcony and the fact you are self catering you can provide your own. The balcony provides an enclosed shaded area and a sunbathing area great for keeping children out of the sun

Reception is limited but we did not find the need for this. Approx distance to the commercial centre and entertainment is 5-10 mins down a set of stairs i have severe walking difficulties and did not find this a problem. Value for money YES will go back again. If you want daily activity such as childrens programmes this is not for you if you want to just relax no hassle no fuss do as you please

My/Our Holiday Opinion: 

We found the Laguna apartments great value, they were lovely and clean and spacious with large balcony c/w sunbeds and table & chairs.  Whilst there is no pool bar we found it very relaxing around the pool and some days we had it all to ourselves.  There is a little supermarket just across the road quite reasonable. The complex is quite small and kept immaculately clean.  Can be a little noisy at night as it's quite close to the commercial centre but you get used to the karaoke after a couple of nights :o) Plenty of restaurants with good food and not too expensive.  Ladies be sure to visit the Harley Davidson Bar and catch the gorgeous dancing boys, they're a must ;o) 

The beach in Puerto Rico is just a 10-15 minute walk away and is lovely and clean with plenty of snack bars for some lunch.  Puerto Mogan is well worth a visit (market day is Friday). 

Take a trip out on The Liberty Yacht for a great day out, the crew were fab serving drinks all day and a lovely lunch.  All in all we had a great week..

The luguna apartments are suitably situated close to the shopping centre(just across).
The apartments are one bedroomed with a huge balcony.The kitchen has a toaster,microwave and two rings.There was a tv in the room but no air conditioning which was a bit of a pain at night as it was hot with it being August.
the weather was very hot(41 degrees most days)and not much cloud in the sky.
Puerto rico itself is a great place to go as it caters for all ages.A great place to eat is LAS VAGES but dont order starters as meals are huge.A good place for cheap drinks are right at the back of the shopping center just past the chinese buffet(1 euro a pint).
A good show to visit is CHEZ FUNNY BOY DRG SHOW,its a show for the family and my son really enjoyed it.

All in all a great holiday and going back at christmas for the 12th time.

We had a fantastic time in these quiet apartments. 

The rooms were spacious and clean. They were cleaned every day or every other day and the staff were friendly. The apartments have a huge balcony which catches the sun all day. 

The pool was very nice and it was quiet so we had it to ourselves for half of our holiday. We could have done with a few more sunbeds though as it got a bit busier. The Laguna apartments are close to the shopping centre but are also quiet which made for an ideal place to stay. The only down side to this place is that the reception isn't open very much during the day and at night we had to phone a number to retrieve our keys. However, they were brought to us within 5 minutes. The water also kept going off but was soon fixed. 

I would recommend these apartments as they are good value for money.

I booked these apartments for a girls holiday and even though they were at the top of the hill across from europa shopping centre they were very nice and quiet.The rooms were spacious with a seperate bedroom and had a toaster,kettle,fridge and two hot plates  in the kitchen.The cleaner came in every day, made the bed and cleaned up.The pool was small but nice and you could always get a sunbed round the pool.
The europa shopping centre is situated over the road and so is the taxi rank si its easy to get a taxi down to the main shopping centre(bout 3.5 euros).
I enjoyed staying at the lara and would stay there again if i could.
Puerto Rico itself is a great place to visit and i have been going now for 12 years.There are lots of cheap bars up top of shopping centre at side of si senor chinese buffet(90 cents a pint) and for a fantastic meal try LAS VAGAS next to happy valley indian.The meals are huge and coleslaw is to die for.

We have been to Puerto Rico many times but this was our first visit to the Lara apartments.When we arrived we were taken to our room which overlooked the pool and had a fantastic view of the sea.There were four of us in the room,only the two beds in the bedroom had bedding on them.There were none for the setee and pull out bed in the lounge.We did ask the maid a few times but still got none,it was nine days after when we were finally left pillows and bedding(not impressed!).We could never get beds around the pool there were towels on them all the time.The windows in the bedroom were broken and held together with tape so we couldn't open them.Apart from that they were fine.  

We were across from the europa centre which was good.Try MaryDs bar it cheap and carling lager exellent.Staff great.Blarney stone also very good.Flicks is good for breakfast,also tavern.For an excellent evening meal try La Brasserie.The main shopping centre is brill lots of places to eat and drink and loads of shops,only about 3 euros in a taxi.

Amadores beach is beautiful.A couple of crazy golf courses for the kids on the way to Puerto Rico beach,also nice plenty of water sports.  

Love the place plenty to do going back as soon as we can.

When i first read the reviews about the Lara they sounded okay so we booked them.

We landed at 6 a.m and got a taxi from the airport to the apartments , we knew where they were as we go to Puerto Rico often. We could not get into the reception as it was locked and there was a message on the door which didn't make any sense at all , the reception did not open until 9.We had a walk around and passed the gardner who said they don't open till 9 and we won't be able to get in .We stood waiting and a bus turned up with other people who were staying at the Nido who the Lara share the reception with. The rep couldn't get in either so he phoned somebody and they said somebody would be at the reception at 8 a.m. When the man finally arrived the other couple got booked in  and we tried to book in , he gave us keys for the nido instead of the Lara then realised his mistake so come and got them back of just as we were starting to unpack. He then showed us were we were staying , we had booked 2 rooms and got only one , he told us the other would be ready at 9 am, which people were still in , then when 9 came it was 11 and finally at 12 we got the two rooms we had booked.

The apartments were clean , with clean towels every couple of days and linen change once a week.The rooms were very spacious.
There are not enough sunloungers at these apartments for the amount of people that are there , when we arrived at 6 am the sunloungers already had towels on them and it was like that for the full fortnight.
The apartments are straight over the road from the shopping centre at the top.
Our apartment was right on the bridge which lead over to the Nido and was very noisey when people were coming in with cases or coming in from a night out.

We had a lovely first week until two spanish families turned up and basically took over the complex , there were only meant to sleep 3 to an apartment , they must have had at least 6 in each apartment and they started taking the sun loungers into there apartment, they took over the pool, the kids done their business in the pool and thought nothing of it .

We have met some lovely spanish people when we have been away but they were just ignorant and arrogant and have no respect at all whatsoever for other people.

We would not stay at these apartments again as when we complained to reception about them nothing was done about it, they didn't even confront them about the problems.

The pool at the Nido was shut down as 2 children had been in hospital poorly and on drips , so the water was being tested and another child burnt his face in the pool by the chemicals that were put in it.

We love Puerto Rico and we will go back but not to there. There is a lovely steak house at the bottom centre called Churrasco , you can get a 3 course meal for 5.95 euro's and the food is gorgeous we come across it last year and my son loved the food that much it is the only place he will eat.

La Fiesta the bar next door to Churrasco's have cheap drinks , bingo and quizzes every night, not a bad night.

Try 007's the prices aren't bad but if they try to get you into Harley's or the one next door the drinks r double the price u pay in 007's.

There is a nice little bar at the Amadores beach  The Viking, the girl was english who worked there and a pint was 1.20 euro .

We went on the boat to see the dolphins it was 10 euro each and the bloke said if you don't see any he will let you go back out again for free, we seen loads of dolphins and a whale , it was really nice and we were out on the boat for 3 hours . Well worth 10 euro, make sure you take plenty of sun tan lotion though.

We were going to go to Mogan on the boat for 10 euro return each, we went on the bus and it was only 1.25 each way, okay if there is a lot of you ,2.25 to Playa Del Ingles.

At the moment they are laying new pavements along the roads so you need to be careful , it's about time as the other pavements are very slippy and dangerous , i fell myself a couple of times.

Stay away from these apartments , most of the people we spoke to on the complex said they would not stay there again.

Lara apts. share same reception as nido del aguila but cannot seem to book these thru british tour operators, my son enjoyed nido last year so we booked lara through internet,hired a car at airport for weeek as no transfers included, it paid for itself used every day to amadores beach & days out to the lovely mogan & ok maspolmas i.m.o. lara is better than nido, patio doors straight onto pool & sun all day.europa centre is again i.m.o.much better than bottom of hill being smaller,friendlier,& you get to know everybody,recomend extreems & blarney stone & restaurant opp.sportsmans bar & electric shop 

We have travelled to loads of different places and the best compliment is to say I will be going back next year

well were do i start!!
Las Buganvillas was the place to be jose and myra are very friendly and make you feel at home!! apartments are very clean and well looked after- they are cleaned every 2 days!!Food is also very good especially jose's bbq on a thursday!!

we wer there in august and we loved it that much that we went back in october!We also went again in february but unfortunetley we didn't get to stay in las buganvillas again so we've booked up to come back on 24th july for 2 weeks!!we can't wait to see everyone again!!

The Europe Centre is just across the road and it is brilliant with bars, restaurants, shops ect everything you need at your doorstep!!
Armadores beach is also the place to be and you can also go in a taxi down to commercial centre which costs 3 euros!!

Can't wait to be back

Don`t be put off by the 1 star rating, these apartments are set in beautiful courtyard gardens across from shopping complex with plenty of excellent eating places,they are cleaned every couple of days, new towels etc; lovely toilet / shower rooms, try for upstairs appartments with nice sea view from balcony! poolside bar also serves great food till "closing time" ie; when you decide to leave leave!barby nights by Josie are a must, double glazing keeps out noisy nights. although beaches are 15 mins walk away, the taxi back is usually only 3 Euro. Amadores beach is the best! Go Skydiving at "Skydive Gran Canaria", Maspalomas, excellent! Scuba at "Top Diving" at harbour,wow! Beautiful walkway between the two beaches! Las Bugs is a great base across from Europa center, as lively or peacefull as you want to make it, definatally be back next Easter Ron & Maddie

Las Fresas apts are pretty basic but not too far up the hill (113 steps) they need a little love and attention, it is close to the noisy bars etc. but go down and join in then it wont be a problem. 

The resort itself is quite picturesque,clean and well equiped to deal with almost any tastes and nationalities loads of shops bars and restaurants, we went in March and it was busy I can imagine its packed in the spring and summer. Call in at the Harbour Lights pub down on the sea front and say hello to Simon and Phil for some good english beer and friendly entertainment and welcome.

We had a brilliant holiday at las fresas,apt was clean and the maids and security guards very friendly,we only saw 1 cockroach and that was outside,weather was excellent we ate mostly at Squire's in th emain shopping mall food excellent staff great.The noise was a bit horrendous at night but u soon got used to it, would recommend it to anybody hoping to go back for xmas.

Me and my fiance went on holiday in June 2006 to the Leticia Del Mar and this was one of the best holiday we have had..... the accomodation was clean and spacious, anyone going here should take advantage of the bungalows as these had there own terrace and were right beside the pool. The rep was friendly and always able to help with any queries guests had. The accomodation was very very well situated 5 mins away from the centre of Puerto Rico and 5 mins away from the beach aswell. 

I would recommend the Leticia Del Mar to anyone, we have already booked for next June!!!!!!

We both looked forward to our long awaited holiday at end of may 2005, sarahs 1st time abroad. We were happy with the deal we got, the package, the flights and the general information at the time about Leticia Del Mar Apartments.  Unfortunately when we arrived this was very short lived... 

We arrived early the monday morning, got a quick sleep and then ventured out to capture the sights and soak up the sun, we had a great day, went back to out apartments which were on the ground floor by the pool and started making something to eat. Everytime we switched on the cooker it blew all the fuses in the apartment, we proceeded to contact the manager who fixed the problem by resetting fuses and showing us what to do if it happened again, it happened several times over that day and we gained help from the couple in the next apartment to fix it and i also received a shock from the toaster which wasnt too pleasant. All in all we thought of this as a laugh and adapted the "it could only happen to us" attitude and thought "lets just get on with the holiday". 

That night, after dinner we sat out on the terrace with our new neighbours having a laugh and taking pictures and when it came to about 11pm we decided to go and see what the nightlife was about. On our return about 4am we sat on the terrace haveing a long awaited burger and realised we were shattered and proceeded to lock up and settle down for the night which was a really good night. I awoke about 8am on the tuesday morning with a terrible feeling that something wasnt quite right, i felt a presence in the apartment.  I woke sarah up and she checked about and didnt see anyone. I went to the safe (which was locked before we went to bed) and got out my mobile to text home about my great night and realised that the key was in the safe door and it was open and our purses, tickets, passports were all gone and proceeded to tell sarah i though something was wrong. She got up, went to the seating area and realised the patio doors were open (which were also locked when we went to bed) and realised the clothes she wore the night before along with her handbag were lying on the veranda bit outside. 

Of course this sent both of us into histerics of what could have happened to us if we had awoke when this person(s) was in. After looking about again, we noticed they had raked through our cases and took my purse which was on the bedside table next to where we slept. Our first instinct was to phone home and get help as we were in a strange country with now no money, no identifucation, no passports and no tickets home. With our parents worried sick they told us that we had to pull ourselves together, stay together, consol eachother and contact management at the complex and our holiday representative from seguro. 

We could not find anyone from the complex at the time to help us and the number on the wall for the rep was unabtainable. Again we had to phone home for help. Our parents, frantic, phoned us back and said they had been in touch with seguro head office and obtained the name of our rep and her phone number for us to contact her. On doing so, she was very rude, unhelpful and said we'd have to wait an hour for her to get to us. May i say she took more than that so when she arrived we were obviously upset and she instead of calming the situation down we were told that we were abusive to her and she would not help us if we didnt stop crying. 

About half an hour after we got to talking, we told all that happened and said our only objective at that time was to get home and asked her to help us get home and just put it down to a miserable holiday. We told her we thought it was an inside job as after i locked everything, sarah then checked it, we were then told we must have been lying. She said we had to report our missing passports to the police and we would need an interpriter for this. We had already told her we had no money and no bank cards (all we had was sarahs saving card with no money in it) and she actually got up and was ready to leave us to it saying she could not help if we had no cash (i think she was oblivous to the fact that IT HAD JUST BEEN STOLEN). 

AGAIN, we phoned home, our parents put £800 into sarahs savings account and told us to do what we had to to get back to the UK. The rep then took us to the bank and then to the police. we then asked again if she had found us a way home and she said no flights were available or leaving the Gran Canaria till the thursday and would cost us £169. AGAIN we phoned home, a flight was found on the internet for BA for £69 leaving on the wednesday, but flew us into gatwick. i told her of this flight and all she done was drop us off at the travel agents and said "hope all goes well".  personally we thought her attitude was totally inco-operative and incensitive, ignorant and rude. We went in and booked our flight home. Our only option at this time, having no help, no identification and no money was to get back to the UK and try and sort it from there. 

The long hours awaiting our flight home were terrible, we couldnt eat, we couldnt sleep, we were tired and scared. About half 10 on the tuesday night the police arrived at our apartments, they had found our ID, tickets, passports, purses, everything basically except our money on the grounds just outside the apartments. At least we had our identity back. We phoned the rep to see what the proceedure would be as we had reported our passports stolen and was issued a temp one to fly home and she said we'd need the interpriter again to go back to the police station and change the statement. So off we went again, paying more money out only to arrive at the station and they hadnt even processed our missing belongings, passports included and was told all was forgotten. That upset us more but we were happy to be leaving in a few hours to start our long trek home. We arrived at Gatwick airport, UK on the thursday 1am and was collected by a family member who then proceeded to drive us 9hours back to Glasgow to whom we will be eternally greatful. Finally we felt safe.

A few months later after we had collated our thoughts, sorted out our insurance and tried to get back to normal, we contacted seguro and not to complain about the holiday as such but to complain about the rep who was a total nightmare and clearly wasnt doing her job and we asked then to review the training process for their reps. Their response was absolutly shocking towards us and i know i will never fly with them again.  Can i just say if we didnt have loving and supportive, caring families back home i dread to think how it would have all ended. The thought of someone creeping about when you are asleep and raking through your things is a terrible one and one we never want to have again. We consider ourselves to be some of the lucky ones.

However, we have been adamant that this will not get to us and ruin our holiday experiences. Sarah has booked for Magalluf in August this year and I have proceeded to go another holiday this year, last week actually, forgetting all about last years nightmare. Me and my partner went to Magalluf and had a ball. I went on this site to express my feeling towards our recent holiday and state how utterly brilliant it was having flown with thompsons and being made so welcome and safe and have found others who have been targetted at the place i was last year and had the same things to say about being robbed etc. We were told at the time that the complex was totally safe and had never had a break in and i intend to contact seguro and state my point again.

We have just returned from a one-week late-deal holiday (May 2005).  Thoroughly enjoyed the holiday. 

Having now been to Gran Canaria I would not return to Tenerife (used to think Los Cristianos was the b's and e's) These apartment are basic but all you need when you are out all day.  Cleaner was in 6 out of 7 days and very pleasant.  If you stay at these apartments the best ones to get are the bungalows beside the pool.  

Places to go - visit Mogan (Little Venice) it's beautiful.  The market (on Friday's)was about 60-70 stalls but due to them all being the same they only needed to put up about 5-6 stalls and you had seen everything.  The streets are quaint in Mogan and very clean.  Travel to Mogan by boat if you can - very enjoyable.  Go to Bubbles for a T-bone steak - delicious!!! (10.50 euro).  Sham Rock is a great wee pub (upstairs in the Europa Centre) They have live music etc.  San Miguel accross the road from Sham Rock is good and a lot cheaper for main meals but you tend to have to queue to get in and that put us off a bit.  Visit Amores beach - a short walk along to the coast from Puerto Rico - the beach is golden compared to the usual black sand you get everywhere else.  

All in all a great holiday was had and we would definately go back again.  PS  Don't get ice in your spirits and you will get more for your money but beware you get drunk a lot quicker!!!!!!!!!

The apartments were great, they were clean and very secure.  The staff were friendly and very helpful.  They were sited 5 minutes either way to the Commercial Centre or the beach/harbour area, ideal for people who don't want to climb mountain sides to get home!!  Commercial Centre was a bit too much at times, but we found wonderful restaurants and bars down by the Harbour/beach area.  The staff were always friendly and helpful in this area and the prices were better than the commercial centre, it also had a slower pace with a relaxed holiday atmosphere.

We will be returning to Puerto Rico and Leticia Del Mar as we had a wonderful holiday.

accommodation was basic, but spotlessly clean.  maid was in every morning with clean towels. sheets changed twice weekly. yes the pool is small, but is a plunge pool, rather than a swimming pool. had no problems with break-ins..attempted or otherwise. apartments sit at the bottom of the hill, so no need to act like mountain goats and climb up the hill.  get a taxi to europa centre..1 euro. 15 minute walk from beach and commercial centre. restaurants aplenty and all serve good food. bars aplenty, though some quite expensive..the price of alcohol varies greatly.  visit flicks bar in the europa centre..our friends own it.

we enjoyed our holiday so much we have booked to go back again in may 2005.  obviously the owners have cleaned their act up according to previous bad reports. 

i would reccommend these apartments to anyone.  we just loved our 2 weeks holiday. the only down side was the maid..we were fed up looking at her every morning..at the end up, everyone was telling her to leave the cleaning, that we would do it ourselves. look forward to going back in may.

This hotel was basic not what we expected at all the room mext door could come in as it was a daft door that seperated us!  No reception at all times and no bar at all!  Very dissapointed in the accomodation won,t be back plus the room sleeping arrangements were poor whilst sleeping 3.  Couch was uncomfy rooms very old fashioned.

These appartments were class - right over the road from shops and restaurants - Thankfully -no steps to climb - friendly and helpful staff - clean towels every day and the maids came in every day too - they even folded all our clothes up and put them in a nice neat pile on the bed - lovely clean large pool area with plenty of loungers, a pool table and a snack and drinks kiosk which was very reasonably priced.  There were plenty of bars and restaurants in the Europa centre to suit everyones taste.  Fiesta Bar was great with 2 drinks for 1 all night!! - 

The whole holiday was mint and we would definately go back again. Weather was fantastic too.

2nd visit to Malibu and in it's defence, brochures state it is at the top of a hill. No security problems , locks on doors and patio doors adequate. Arrived at 0300 hrs and as previously stated keys left in door, saving a big queue of tired travellers at reception. Checked in next day. Rooms cleaned every 2nd day, pool and bar areas clean. No night time entertainment as on  previous visit but plenty going on in resort. Tennis in complex cheap. Plenty sunbeds, great weather. Best restaurants Pinnochios and Chinese Buffet(Upstairs back left in shopping centre).Best Bar Harbour lights (Far end of beach). 

All in all cheap holiday, value for money but don't expect luxury when you pay for budget.

My wife and i was moved 2 days before traveling from the Omar to the Malibu , we travelled 25/12/06 for 2 weeks. On arrival at 14.00 we found reception shut and a note saying room No and keys left in door ( poor security )reps didnt no where rooms were so we were left to find our own rooms.The complex is about as high as you can possibly get and the furthest back.We had seen reports of robberies and on new years eve 11 rooms were broken into.Complex deffinately has got problems.If you can "stay clear ".rooms have sliding balcony doors with locks facing wrong way ,we spent 2nd week with various homemade security measures in place , not good.

We love puerto rico , about 6th visit but will go back only if booking privately in future.

See my earlier review of this holiday taken 25/12/06 for 2 weeks , Update to this is I feel my comments have been finaly fully vindicated being compensated for 50% of my holiday costs. All my comments about this nightmare holiday were true.I hope the Malibu apartments and Thomas Cook have worked together to sort this complexes problems out for the good of future holiday customers who save all year for a well earned break.

hi i went on holiday with my children and my wife we all were looking forward to it as we got into the holtel and went down to our apartment it seemed ok when we got into our apartment i was amazed it had no kettel or toster you had to pay for that the locks on the doors were the wrong way round and the bathroom was not that nice at all the bath had a big crack in it and was covered in rust 

anyway upstair there was a very good entertainment every night for the whole family and a good pool to but one night we were all upstair it was the kids games a family came upstair there apartment had been brocken into.we were talking to a couple tht had been there last week and said tht there had been 2 break ins last week by the time we left the hotel there had been 11 breakins in 2 weeks i was amazed

just back in july 2006 would not recommend these apartments to anyone we also got broken into rep very unhelpful young girls be very cautious when coming back into malibu at night time do not lose your keys cos you dont want night porter assisting you to room read paul and linsays report i was one of the six who got broken into no forced entry on any doors it was as if someone had a key it need a holiday to recover

This holiday was a complete nightmare from begin to end.  

We arrived at the apartments they were disgusting and were not cleaned by staff for 3 days.  Bed sheets were changed once during our 2 week stay.  Cleanliness is not a top priority at the Malibu.  Cockroaches are expected but when there are 53 in one room at one time you start think there might be a problem.  Don't bother with air conditioning the desk fan you get doesn't make a difference.  The male receptionist is the most ignorant man we have ever meet.  The rep is not helpful and on several occassions was uncooperative.  Night porter - BEWARE -  do not go down to apartments alone especially if you are a young woman.  Security is poor 6 apartments were broken into on the same floor.  There was no forced entry but safes were bust open and items stolen.  Dark corners and poor lighting give a very insecure feeling to all.  

There were only 2 good things about the Malibu - Jose and Tracey (Hi Tracey!!!!! hope Thailand works out you hippy on the beach) The shopping centre at the bottom of the hill is decent  - SCRUFFY MURPHYS is a MUST!!! 

Overall, the holiday we have just come back from has put us totally off Puerto Rico and Gran Canaria we would not go back and would not recommend it to anyone else.

The malibu was great, really comfortable for the price the only downside was the hill but when i read the reviews i was a bit put off with the reviews as everyone said about the hill but its ok to walk down during the day or when its light but never to walk back up taxis are only 2 - 3 euros anyway so it was ok.
The pool is great heated although if you buy a lilo and take it back to the apartments the maids take them so at the end of the day take them to your balcony the balconys are huge a real suntrap, We looked onto a mountain and you could see people walkin up and down it!

The nightlife was good aswell M+Ms was the best pub it was so cheap For Smirnoff Vodka a full Glass was 2 Euros A pint Of beer 90cents which was great. Piccadillys was good too for dancing Fibber magees Was great too although didnt get busy till about 3 4 in the morning lol.
Eating out el ciervo is great for steaks there lasagne is great too also right next door to there was el tora now you have never seen steak like this in your life it is huge defonetly worth a try if you like steak !!!!

The waterpark is good not worth 22 euros though if you go go early as it closes at 4.30pm which is a bit ribbish !
Mogan market is good go on the boat its lovely but you need to go early or theres nothing left.
Overall best holiday ever met loads of lovely people there and made lots of friends the entertainment in the hotel is very poor BEN Does try his best though lol,

most of the other reviews about this place seem to be spot on , but be very aware as there were 13 apartments turned over on hogmany, no doors were forced open but the safes were all busted witch suggests an inside job. Would not recommend THE MALIBU.

Having read the other comment we totally agree Malibu Apts are fine and the all place feel relaxed and comfortable. The Apts are the furthest you can go but at least it is peacefull. Walking down the hill was fine once i had the right footwear, NO flipflops, but it doens't take long about 15min. We always took taxis back up (less than 3Euros)but there maybe long cue on occasions.

The apts are basic, clean with large terraces, very private. And for those who moan about no toasters eat fruits, it is 35 outside and you are abroad; as for kettles use a pan to boil water it works.
A little dissapointment for me was the bed, no cumfy at all so i slept on the sofa.
BEWARE of evill pigeons that will poo on your balcony and flick stones on you table as you eat.
There is a supermarket a few metres down the road much bigger than the one at Malibu.
The pool is ok if a little cold. Hire for matttreses for the sunbeds. Bar ok but we didn't use it so??
Go to the beach in Amadores it is beautiful and the walk along the seafront is great. the beach at Puerto Rico is good but the restaurant everywhere around serve the some food, mostly fast food in enormous quantity. It has to be said that's was people want.

We found "The Canarian Mason" in the Shooping centre at the back facing the street. This is where the locals eat late at night, yummy food, clean, friendly funny staff, well worth it.
Also great la Bolera for entertainment, food ok.
Visit Sioux city if you can, the food isn't much but the drink makes up for it, take a camera!
When going through the town, just fob off the pushers for timeshares, electronics and other they are a pain, and rude sometimes. If you go out at night for dinner, do your reaserch during the day, find where you want to go and aim blanking everyone else or it will take you hours to fight your way through the promotion poeple.
If you buy perfum, electronic beware it may not work at home, and play one business against another. We said someone else offered us much less and we got some deal.

Alltoghter a great holiday, good food if you look, great resort peacefull and pleasant, good accommodation value for money, superbe weather 35+ :).

Our apartment was on the 3rd floor and was quite big with a large balcony overlooking a large rocky hill. This was ok as we got to see some stone eagles flying but unfortunatly the sea view was over to the other side. The apartments were clean and of a basic standard, we managed without having to hire a toaster or kettle which cost extra.

The tennis court was out of action as work is being completed within the apartment complex( solar panels being installed).
The only failing was the fact that it was mainly scottish tourists in the apartments.It would have been better having a mix of nationalities.
It was quite embarassing listening to the langauge being used by some of the guests young and not so young around the pool and bar area whose favourite drink seemed to be buckfast, and they even found a shop selling it in puerto rico.
The entertainment staff( Tony and Havee?) were first rate and really tried to make the holiday fun for everbody with games and competitions.
The beaches were lovely with plenty of sunbeds and parasols. Lots of fish to see and we hired a pedalo to get a better look.
Do not go to the scotch corner BBQ at the Gran Amadores Apartments as it is a complete waste of time.It is just a BBQ at a different apartment, nothing different.

Sioux city was great fun with plenty of cowboys and indians. The show was fantastic although we felt slightly rushed it was well worth the money. The jeep safari...be prepared to get very very wet...it was great fun and a great way to see the island. Go prepared with plenty of water to throw.

We would go back to Puerto Rico but not to the Malibu, it was not our kind of place.

Apartments kept fairly clean, although think maids missed one day for some reason, so no fresh towels for three days. Big balcony with table and chairs for 3 ie. one bed apartment not really big enough for 4.

Guy on reception, which is only opened 9-1 then 4-9, is most miserable guy on earth; wouldn't even phone you a taxi, which is great value at 3 euros including tip into Shopping Center.

Pool OK for kids although tiles around pool are slippery when wet; bit of a problem for a swimming pool!! Bar drinks and food reasonably proced considering there's nothing about for miles. Tennis courts shut when we were there as it was used as machine shop for builders.

Entertainment guy Tony works hard to keep you all going but events limited to bingo, kids party games, although two good caberets per week.

Resort has two main centers; the Shopping Center (Bottom of hill) and Europa Center (Other side of valley on top of hill - 4 euros for taxi from Malibu). Shopping Center bigger and livlier. Bars and restaurants much the same. Had good food every night and reasonably priced. Check out Tropicana Bar (opposite Lineker's Bar) for great fun night - bit risque later on but all good fun and kids love it.

Just returned from the malibu for the second time the first time we were there was Jan 03.The apartments are still clean very basic for people that are not wanting to spend alot of time in their apartment its ideal.The reason i say that is the entertainment isnt that gr8, Infact its very repetitive.We were there for 2weeks and it was the same sort of thing every nite.

The pool area is fine again very clean although pool bar is a bit expensive, but you do have to be at the pool early in the morning to get the sunbeds.We ate out alot theres a gr8 mexician resturant on the other hill called pancho villas.san miguel restrant in commerical centre was also a favourite of ours.

We hired a car through segro and went round the island.We would recommend going to mogan-to the friday market theres lots to see and lots to buy.We also went to Aqualand in masapalomas it was gr8 the food wasn't that gr8 but the slides were fantasic.We went to a fantasic chinese resturant called The Mandrian in Arguegiein its only 5euros away and its well worth the taxi.at nite we spent most of our nites at the commerical centre.good pubs are Dancing star palace(they have amazing cocktails),Snoopys,007,The highlander,We would also recommend going to the shamrock in commercial centre on a thurs they have a hypmotisic who was fantasic you do have to be in about 10pm to get a seat.

The beach has all your water sports the jet ski's were gr8.puerto rico is a fantasic place i would go back,We just wouldnt stay at the malibu again not that its bad it aint,It's just very basic and as its all scots it can turn out like an old firm at times.

Malibu Apts Clean but based on top hill so difficult for elderly, so taxis had too be booked from hotel. 3 euros down to main commercial center. Great for bars,discos, food outlets, Mc Donalds, restaurants, duty free etc. Ideal apts for kids full of scottish, but typical Glaswegian Patter. Not a place for old  pensioners looking for peace and tranquility.

A bit Butlins entertainment at night, birdy song, cha cha slide, amarillo etc for kids. So most nights went down to the center. Amadores beach great for sun worshipers, and pota mogan for a boat trip. Good, but warm glad we had an umbrella for sun, no protection at apts, plenty beds though.Snack bar basic food? ie. Greasy Spoon stuff, ok for snacks but ate out down at center each night , chinese, italian, mexican,Indian etc. Would go back in October when not to hot.

we arrived in puerto rico at night,the view was fantastic our apartments were right at the top of the hill a trek 2 walk up (especialy if uve had a few!!!)but taxis were cheap and reliable.our apartments were spacious with a good sized balcony clean and comfortable basicly perfect for the money i paid.bars were good jokers has to be the best.

Well this is our third holiday at the Malibu Apts, and a very gd time was had by all.  Big thanks to Tony the entertainer for doing his job!!! And of course how could i forget Jose and Emma our friends from the shop we all love u and miss u thanks for our friends hope to see u in november xx

The Malibu is at the top of a hill, but taxis only cost 3 euros to get there u can walk down no probs.  Plenty of gd places to eat in the commercial centre and drink!!  If u r looking for cheap place to drink head for M&M's really cheap bud for 1 euro can't complain. Not much more to say but gd time was had by all. Big shout out to the Malibu crew c ya all sn peeps luv ya xxxxxxx oh n cheers for the best holiday yet guys!!!!!!

we arrived at the malibu apartments in the early hours, the supermarket was open for milk and water, the apartment was right at the top of the hill you couldn't go any higher our room was very spacious with large balcony views were ok you had to higher toaster kettle fan ect if you wanted them. it was a nice walk down the hill to the centre but we taxi back they cost around 2 euros which wasn't bad the pool area was nice but the bar was pricey the entertainment was rubbish hence the reason we went down the town every night. 

The weather was hot, in the main shopping complex eat at san miguelles it was the best you no when you are they because they queue up to get in, food was excellent. You get the annoying people trying to sell you things like timeshare and the lookie lookie people but you get that where ever you go wouldn't go back to these apartments unless they sort out the entertainment other than that good clean place.

Just back from a great week at the Malibu apartments right on the top of the hill . The weather was great apart from one day when it rained ( not like Gran Canaria )

Apartments
The apartment itself was good but the facilites were basic eg there was no toaster or kettle but you could hire these for 3 euros a week with a deposit of 5 euros which you got back .The maids came and cleaned the apartments about 4 or 5 times a week and they gave you new towels etc . When i was there i got lots of cockroaches in my room mostly at night but .

Pool and Pool Bar
The pool at the Malibu is clean but it is very cold , the splash pool for children is also very cold. The pool bar at the malibu sells food and drink some of the prices are quite high but .

Entertainment
Josey is the entertainer at the malibu and he is great with the children , Everynight except from sunday there is entertainement such as hawaian partys , games and bingo . On a sunday there is  music . During the day there is killer pool , riffle shooting and volley ball .

Resort
The resort of Puerto Rico is lovely but a bit hilly . The beach is nice too and theres is also another beach  about 20mins away called the Amadores Beach . The Commercial Centre is the big centre at the bottom of the hill with lots of bars , shops , cafes and  restaurants . A good bar to go into is M&M as it is only 1 euro for a pint of beer and a really good restaurant is El Toro . There is also another centre called The Europa Centre at the top of the hill which is smaller .

Well this is the 2nd fantastic holiday to the Mailbu Apartments we have had!  The apartments are right at the top of the hill - but a walk down to the commercial centre takes about 20 minutes and you can get taxis for about 2 euros!  The apartments are very clean and spacious (maid in every day).  The pool is massive and there are lots of activities day and night - best of all the Shot Game!  3..2..1..GO lol.

This holiday was made even more brilliant by the great people that visit the Mailbu Apartments time and time again!  You know who you are and we miss you guys loads!

For eating out we think the pool bar is great for snacks during the days and Churchills is great value for excellent food at night (upstairs in commercial centre next to Scruffy Murphys).

NIGHTLIFE - the Commercial Centre is great - everything in the one area!  As Sam has mentioned in another review, you MUST go to Blue Room - great place to start your night and the drinks are sooo cheap, free cocktails and friendly staff!  Then my fave pub is Shamrock - the bar staff will make sure you have a brill holiday!  Jokers and Fibbers are both good nightclubs but Jokers is very small!

The entertainer Jose at the apartments is fantastic - with kids and adults alike!  Harvey is also a wee star!  I am already booked up for January and have the brochure for next summer - hope to see all the same faces again!

Just back from Puerto Rico and stayed at the Malibu apartments.  We had an excellent time and we will be returing to PR next year for our honeymoon.  Everything is really cheap and the taxis were really clean and efficient.  For those people that said you face a quarry - what quarry never heard a thing until the germans across the quarry started counting to 10 every night for some strange reason.  

Our advice would be that you take the trip to Loro Parque in Tenerife.  It costs 72 euros (about £50 each) but is totally worth it if you love dolphins.  The trip to Mogan is good as it is market day.  If you are going at the end of August take a fan with you.  We arrived in the middle of a heatwave and could not hire or buy a fan for love nor money.  

Had a great time and the majority of people were Scottish and we all got along well.

Well thats us back from another 2 weeks at Malibu!!! Yet again I had to best time of my life!!!
  
I would recommend this apartment to anyone young or old, caters for everyone.

You cannot go to Puerto Rico's Commercial Centre and not go into the Blue Room 2 euro for a vodka and a mixer!!! If you just want a soft drink it is free!!! It is right next to Harley's. Everyone GO!!!!! (BLUE ROOM)

Would recmmend San Miguel to eat, nice Spag Bol!!! (ate it nearly every night) !!!

If you are young or old for that matter visit Jokers ( Hip Hop) Or Fibber McGhees ( Dance) Both are quite pricey for drinks, but it is happy hour till about 2, 2.30 am and is open till 6, 7, 8 am!!! Great Time Hee-hee!!!

The Bar staff in Malibu are really good, speak very good English, and are quite good looking for all you single ladies out there!!! This year the night life was not so good at the pool bar mainly because not very many people went up to the pool bar,so get up there and support the Malibu. Played Bingo every night I won 40 euro the first night I played and I won a few lines!!! Also played the shot game, where you have to get the name of the person who sings the song, got drunk a few times from that game!!!! During the day there is Killer Pool and Riffle shooting which was a laugh!!!

Jose the entertainer is great with the kids, loves them to bits!!!

Anyone who reads this before going to Malibu Tell Javier or Harvey, his english name Sam is asking for him!!! Great wee guy is our Javier!!!

At least this year I did not come back from GC and end up with a blood clot!!!!

I met loads of really good folk- Michele for instance and Alan!!!

All in All had another fantastic year at the Malibu, would recommend it to anyone!!!!

Well once again my partner and our daughters visited the Malibu Apartments and we were not let down in any manner.

The apartments are still very clean, linen and towels changed regularly and staff very friendly (same staff as last year).

Jose well what can i say about him..... Yet again he kept all of us entertained, young and old alike. But watch out ladies he can be a bad influence on your men, takes them out boozing and they forget the way home, lol Sharron will agree.

I can not fault these aparments in any way, i am just going to book up to back again next year, that should be enough said.

Last but not least big shout out to the malibu crew you know who you are see you all soon (i hope)

Malibu was at the top of the hill,which is out of sight from the main centre,but the same time easy to reach with taxi.3 Euro it costs so is very cheap to travel in luxury,with beutifull veiwing over the whole of Puerto Rico..

Eating out is also good and cheap{steaks are amazing}with plenty of options from chinese,indian and steak houses in the main centre,but if you try the Malibu restraunt you won,t be let down.Its cheap and olso very good..as for the entertainment its child heaven,during the early hours and adult madness later on in the evening..we had an entertainer called jose{hozzy} who i cant say enough for,he was a great guy,child friendly,kind and a very careing guy.I have 2 kids who are still crying for this guy,everyone there will know what i mean if they were there in the first few weeks of july..{his girlfriend-Kellyanne and his Bad Boy Connor]and a good friend to myself and wife..this apartment was always full of fun because of jose...The bar staff and everyone who works here can,t do enough for you...its also full of scottish folks so you know your in for a good time...

we had a ball and we will be going back to the Malibu in the near future..Thanks for the great holiday staff of Malibu...

Basic accomadation at top of the hill although taxi service brilliant and well priced. Cleanliness excellent, maid service 2-3 times weekly with plenty fresh linen.
Entertainment horrendous. Does not cater for the younger child. Killer pool, rifle shooting at one euro a shot and you win a pint of beer!!!!!!!

Very mixed age group therefore if requiring a quiet family holiday i would not recommend the malibu. Young team noisy and partying to early hours with no supervision.If you require sleep at night not the apartments for you.
Resort good, recommend eating at the santiban and good night at the paino bar upstairs.

Would return to the resort but not the Malibu.

The Malibu Apartments is  an ok resort good for sleeping in, drinks quite pricey,  entertainment same every night kids party (if they decided to do it,)  shots quiz, bingo , adults show, bingo, 2 songs then quiet as we had kids aged 1,2, and 2 at 5 we couldnt really venture out at night,  apartments wer ok very standard the reps where not very helpful, music sounded as tho it was the one disc that was repeated the entertainer  jose was good with the kids floro and oliver the bar staff where good at speaking english the resecption staff could hardly speak english on our second week there was a fire in the laundrette, no fire alarm was raised we them found out there wasnt one the buildin was not evacuated when questioned the reps said we are working on it.

The group that i was with have aggreed we wouldnt be returnin to The Malibu Apartments but return to peurto rico 3E for a taxi up n down the hill but only takes 20 mins to walk down hill.

Well i was very opptomistic about going to the malibu apartments once i read all the reveiws, they were all mixed, no happy medium! I tried to take little notice and not to have any expectations of it, and im glad i did! 

The apartments were lovely and was really shocked when we saw our room,it was fresh and clean! As for cockroaches... well we saw one in our balcony but it was already dead, but didnt have one in our apartment for the whole week we were there. As for the staff they are great. It was me and my boyfriend that went and it was his first holiday but he loved it.We got  freindly with a couple that were broken into (next door to us) and the staff were very helpful and kept watch for them!! We only got to know the entertainer jose and alan and had a few drinking nights with em!!!!

Place to go hmmmmmm.... i really enjoyed the garage and when we  went there was a family with children, a party of 30 - 40s and the typical 18 - 30s its a mix for all ages and they give you loads of free shots( infact everywhere does if you go to their bar or restaurant!!! lots of games to win drinks and the staff are g8 and s*xy!!!
Places to eat.. well i went in march and its now aug so i forget the names of some!! If you fancy a chinese for good value then theres a good one across from the garage in the main shopping malls.
thats the only one i can remember sorry!

Loved the holiday and would defo go back to the malibu apartments but mind if u go in march or the start of the yr the water is freezin!! be warned. oh nearly forgot it is up and massi hill (gr8 veiw tho) but taxis are only 2 - 3 euros and its a lovely walk down at night, too steep to walk up tho!!

I would recomend this holiday for the simple fact of the staff and come on its the canary islands, it get you out of scotland!!!!

We had a fab holiday at the Malibu, apartmetns were great for us two, clean and the staff were realy friendly.  Alan the entertainer is really nice and does loads of goos tunes and stuff for both kids and adults, good laff that lad hahaha drink prices are cheap too at the malibu and the supermarket seels iron bru for the scottish folk!!

the bars at the CC are good too and aparently one of the bar guys at the picaddilly is taking over the entertainment at the malibu and he is niiiiiiice ladies hahaha try harleys too for the male dancers, something for the girls for a change!!

all in all we had a fab holiday at the malibu!!  Hello to anyone we met there too! and too alan if your reading this!

the apartments were situated at the top of the hill in pr, this would be a disadvantage for anyone with disabilities or the elderly, the good thing taxis are cheap and the appartments run a minibus in the evening down to the main shopping centre for 1 euro. the appartment was clean, very spacious (ive been to pr twice before and this is the best spaced yet). 

the mini market at the comples was open for us arriving at 5a.m. and the pool bar/ resturant was reasonable priced and the food was good, the only drawback was the entertainment leaved a lot to be desired, but this wont deter me from returning there in 2004

After reading reviews of these appartment we did not know what to expect. Everything was fine, the appartment were basic but very clean. Air conditioning cost 98 euros for 2 weeks but was well woth it.

The only downside was that the pool isn't that great for younger kids it was very deep and the childrens pool was a joke and there was no entertainment (except pool volleyball which was a bit unfair as the children had to leave the pool or put up with being hit with ball at high speed), and if there was it was the best kept secret.
Apart from being kept awake at night with teenagers/early teens (you all know who you are) arguing after too much sangria it was great. The friday night barbecue was great, you can upgrade to all inclusive, the food looked ok but we never used the restaurant. The pool bar was great for the kids and Debbie made them all feel very welcome.

So if you're going take your ear plugs to ensure a good nights sleep and say Hi to Debbie for us

Just back from Puerto Rico and the weather and resort were beautiful.

Lets get the grumbling out of the way first.  Do not go to the Maraciabo Apartments, I am begging you.  They are on the ground level which is very handy - I would of walked all the way to the top if it meant I would of got a decent place to stay.  Our apartment was shabby to say the least, old bed sheets, the walls were in desperate need of a paint and it was not clean, the balconies had bird droppings all over it - we did not sit out once.  On entry at night time it was dark and dingy.  The pool bar guy was so annoying shouting around the pool [pool not cleaned once when there].  The pool bar was also over priced - the worst I have ever seen.  The worst for last - 2 apartments were broken into when there - an inside job without a doubt.  One woman lost all her jewellery and money.  Taxi drivers told us the Maraciabo was always like that.  If it is the case that somewhere else will cost you an extra 100Euro please book somewhere else.  The El Greco apts were fab.

The resort has everything you need - loads of bars, restaurants etc.  It is a small resort with three main centres [Centre Civil being the best and more lively one].  Puerto Rico has only two night clubs and they are both great.  I recommend Harleys bar for a younger and more mixed crowd.  There are loads of Irish, English and Scottish bars - The Harp probably being the best - the only complaint is the annoying hosts that continually interupt the singers with jokes.  For eating out I would definetly go to Oscars on the seafront for breakfast, lunch and dinner - it is in a class above the rest.  Many of the beach restaurants have breakfast for 5Euro's for an extra 2Euro's in Oscars you really do get the best.  Dinner there was fab.  There is also a Spanish Restaurant [the only real one] in the Centre Civil - if you are looking at the centre it is on the ground floor on the right, just near the taxi rank.  The name is Balcon delmare and is cheap and really really nice.

Take a trip to Puerto Mogan for the day Eur1.30 on the bus.  The drive is breathtaking and it is a really nice small village with lovely restaurants and little shops.

I was so dissapointed in the hygiene level of apartments.

We came to puerto rico for 2 days after a disasterous 5 days in the worst hotel possible in playa del ingles, we found these apartments maracaibo, for 35 euro a night for 1 bedroom apartment. worth every cent!! it was such a relief, they were so clean and nicely decorated, there are shower curtains on the showers now! balcony was quite spacious with nice chairs, its well lit, 24hr reception and shop, friendly staff who speak english! Safety deposit box was 3 euro deposit and 1 euro 20 cent/day, the bar and pool area were clean and nice, beach volleyball court and small kids playground. it was a 10min walk from the nightlife and if u know the short cut a very short walk downhill to the beach and marina. the view from the balcony is amazing of the beach and marina, we were on the 5th floor. 

The swimming pool was really nice, not much chlorine in it so it wasnt irritating. Unfortunately didnt try the restaurant or see the hotel entertainment so cant comment on that. The nightlife was really good, Harleys is a must, all the men dancing on the tables, covent garden is good too for a nice drink. the clubs wernt brilliant but it was out of season. i can imagine they are much better in season! food there was fantasic, and good value, cafe central in the plaza was good simple food and cheap, and san miguel is a little restaurant in the middle of the plaza, the food there was devine!!! i had fillet steak and i will never forget it! 

Had an unforgettable 2 days anyway, made up for the trouble we had in playa del ingles!

This was my second visit to the Maracaibo (March 2006)  and it has improved.  The kitchens and bathrooms have been renovated completely and are now up to standard.  The lighting in public areas has been completely upgraded and you can see where you are going now !  The bar has been extended and it's now cleaner and brighter.  There are still a few little things that need to be done, but I genuinely feel that it will be done before the summer 2006 season starts. 

There is a new bar manager, Mike from Austria and the resident entertainer is Paul Santangelo both are nice guys who do a good job.  There are guest entertainers a  couple of nights a week.

The cleaners were in 6 days over the week although we were told they would only be there on 5 days. 

A couple of things that should be looked at though,  they have removed the front gate so that it's an easy stroll to town but it therefore cannot be locked at night.  I looked and all the other complexes on that road have gates that are securely locked at night with high wire fences.  This would make me think there might be a security problem especially if you are on the ground floor as we were. 

The other thing is that there is no curtain or door on the shower.  If they intend not to fit any then why did they not put in a larger shower tray ?  As it was, the floor was soaked after one shower.  If there were three of four sharing someone might break their neck on that floor .

Overall the Maraciabo are good value for money, in a good location, clean with average facilities  The one bed apts are a bit small - bedroom about 10 foot by 7.  Don't expect luxury.

We are frequent visitors to puerto rico. and have stayed in many different hotels. this was about our sixth time staying here. reading some bad reviews about this hotel i would like to explain to anyone that has booked here the present situation and how it was. 

the first time we stayed here we got a great room on the top floor with the best view in puerto rico. you have a shop that stays open 24 hours. a bigger one across the road. 15 min walk to center and 10 to beach. most comfortable holiday beds i'v ever slept in. one bed apt are spaceious but in two bed apt second bedroom is small. lovely pine wardrobss to hang your clothes. good pressure from the shower. it had everything we needed. no need to rush down to pool in morning pleanty of sun beds. 

on our second visit the apt was a bit more shabby but it was adicquit. and again on third  visit getting a bit shabbier. but on my forth visit it was the pitts. six members of my family this time. the wardrobs were falling apart and smelly we had no place to put our clothes. my family were horified. up until this time i had no idea the apartments were so bad. we started to here more horrer stories. now to elay anyons fears who may have  booked. and are worried.  the hotel closed down for three months in may 05 to refurbish.  

when we went back in jan 06 we could see some changes. but did.nt get any higher stars as it's still a bit shabby in places. if your looking for a hotel based holiday this is not for you but if like us you want 4* view close to all amenities comfy peaceful bedroom eletric kettle for your cuppa, toaster. and good shower. you'll be ok. theres two centers where you can go for night life. pleanty of variety. from disco bars for the young to a ballroom for the not so young. pleanty of Irish bars with great enterainers. (esp scruffy murphys and stevi)la fiesta two for one all night and entertainment. piano bar great sing a long. great resturants. in all something for everone. Amadorus is new beach and theres a lovely cliff walk to get you there. ferry goes every half hour to mogan. lovely place. but gets very crowded on friday market day. take a taxi to arguinnagan on tuesday. better market more space to get around. for those of you who are put off by noisy bars in center once your inside places like molly's or piano bar you cant here them. or irish cottage in europa center. also thers pleanty of nice restuarnts and flanagans bar in the harbour. 

the maracibo has entertaiment some nights. also puntu del ray hotel.turn left at hotel recption to reach it. also down this end, there's a pharmacy and a nice bar along side of this where you can sit with great views. there are numerous bars offering a "booze cruise" but one i can recomend is scruffy murphys. pleanty of food and drink included in price. and if like myself  you could'nt drink alcahol on a boat, go along anyway. and just to add it's easy to walk down but a killer back. don't do it for the sake of a couple of euros. taxis are cheap.

The Maracaibo are basic and cheap.  The beds are OK and the shower works, the cleaners are in every day except Sunday & Thursday. The whole complex is very dingy.  We were told that it's being renovated, if that's true then it is hard to see where they have started.  The front of the building hasn't been painted in 4 or 5 years, the lifts are creaking, the corridors are dark with what seems like 40watt bulbs "lighting" the area.  Our room was on the ground floor and is badly in need of decoration.  The kitchen was falling apart, the bathroom had no window or extractor, and the whole appearance of the apartment was poor.

Other facilities include a decent sized swimming pool, a bar serving the usual chips with everything menu.  there was entertainment most nights, the usual Elvis, Kylie etc singing to backing tracks.

Overall the staff were very friendly and tried hard but were let down by the state of the complex.

The Maracaibo is cheap and clean, don't expect anything else.

Just after booking the maracaibo on line, we read the reviews on this site.  We thought (Oh! My God!) What have we done?...
But we thought we would take the chance and make the best of it. GLAD WE DID!

Yes apartments are in need of a bit of paint, but the atmosphere and the friendly staff make up for it totally. It was the first holiday we had taken without the kids and we enjoyed every bit of it,especially meeting the loony girls from Cork and The entertainment staff, Phil and Gary (The Moonyballonies), Not to mention Cookie, with her famous curry, and Elvis AKA Fred West.

For a basic cheap place you get exactly what you pay for. If you want 5* Don't book here, but if you want great friendly entertainment that we would gladly take our kids on hol to, Book now!

The hotel looks lovely on the surface. Good aspects of the holiday were:-

The accommodation was regularly serviced.

Bad aspects of the holiday were:-

Restaurant food in the resort as a whole was very diappointing. The only restaurant of note was Oscars - try the flambe'd fillet with green pepper sauce, delicious!! The majority of the other restaurants in the resort are tacky and you would be better going to Blackpool for a better meal. The concept of a well done steak is not something the Canarians are aware of.

The pool opens at 8am and if you want to get a decent sunbed with parasol, I suggest you join the other sad 50 or so individuals who queue (yes queue) from as early as 7:40am to get access to the pool at 8am. The little grey haired Irish guy with the moustache has a plaque on his lounger because he was sad enough to be a queue'er every morning (front row, next to the showers - you know it was you) Otherwise, on our last week it was impossible to get a decent sunbed after 9am. The sun doesn't come over the mountains till after 10am so what was all the rush. There is a note on the room 'key' which says that unattended towels will be removed but this didn't happen in our 2 week stay.

Fresh towels are handed out daily. Good guesture. However, someone 'mistakenly' stole one of our towels and they cost Euro 30 to repace. After arguing with the receptionist (the old geezer with the grey hair) he agreed that I did not steal it myself and gave me a replacement after looking down his nose at me.

Entertainment at the hotel at night is non existent and the attempt to provide daily entertainment was extremely poor. The 2 girls did their best but were inadequately resourced. If you like Bob Marley or UB40 you will be OK as these were the only 2 cd's played at the extremely overcrowded pool every day.

Prices in the hotel were the most expensive on the resort. Euro 2 for an ice lolly for the kids, Euro 3.80 for a pint of Amstel.

The resort lacks good bars or entertainment and if you are unfortunate enough to go to the Europa or Commercial centres be prepared to be hounded every 10 steps for a meal or a drink. The shopping facilities at either centre are extremely poor.

The hotel is located on the Marina which is nice in itself but is somewhat detached from the main resort...

Try the boat trip to Mogan which is beautiful. Don't try the Dolphin boat trips unless you are prepared to be sick - the journey out in the Atlantic is extremely rough, although we did sight a few dolphins.

Timeshare - do not go to Anfi unless you are prepared to participate in a tour for 3.5 hours to be offered a weeks timeshare for £13k, one bedroom. This works out at £650k for a one bed apartment in this resort - hugely overpriced.

Tried Gran Canaria, tried the Marina Suites, wouldn't recommend it unless you can put up with all the negatives for the sake of very few positives.

Sorry this is a long one - but got a lot to say!

We did last minute booking with First Choice, and did we drop lucky!

HOTEL - Marina Suites are just outside Puerto Rico in a smaller resort, Puertonovo. The hotel is about 2 years old, and fabulous. The rooms are HUGE ! !  Everything is spotlessly clean, reception staff are wonderful and all speak great english, but like it when you try spanish, even if you get it wrong. Breakfast buffet runs from 0800 - 1100 and is very good, please always remember that we are not in Britain, and they don't cook everything like we do ! The eating areas are beautifully clean and staff again, really nice people! The infinity pool is out of this world, and heated! The is only entertainment one night per week, but the two entertainment staff really do their best, and they are two lovely girls.

SUNBEDS - Well, this is the only downside. Pool doors do not open until 0800 and queues can start at 7.30 for sunbeds.  Pool towels are provided and they are clean. Some sunbeds on the back row have canopies and curtains for more shade which comes in useful as the temperature hit 43+ when we were there (when the first started).

RESORT - Puertonovo is not huge, there are a few shops and supermarkets, a pharmacy, dr's, mini-golf, bus station which takes you anywhere and is well serviced, and all the other ususal bits n boibs you need.

EATING OUT - The best place we found was the Arizona restaurant, average prices really, but the food is really good, and the staff are wonderful. We ate there most evenings and were not disappointed once.  Please avoid the beachfront restaurant La Pirata, you can't miss it, it has the drag shows. We ordered one meal there and as soon as it arrived, we left it and the lasage I ordered was boiling hot on the outside and cold in the middle (microwave job! ) and the pizza my son had was revolting. 

EXCURSIONS - We did these with First Choice and they were good value for money on the whole. Sioux City is an excellent evening out, the show was fab, food was not brilliant but ok. If you go, doon't wear flip-slops, feet get filthy. Pop your trainers on! Cowboy hats etc are quite expensive when you get there and they like you to dress up and join in, but buy hats etc from the market or  resort shops before you go. (cowboys hat for about 5euro if you have a rummage around on the market at Mogan).  Ah, Mogan, somewhere so nice, we went twice. Friday is the market day, loads of handbags/belts/watches/ etc but it's a nice day out. Can catch a ferry from the marina for 10 euro return, get a free sangria on the way as well.. Mogan is beautiful, it's called Little Venice and if you do it when it's not a market day, you can see why! Camel riding is Maspalomas - hmmm..  tried it, didn't like it but good value for money and everyone seemed to enjoy this. Playa de Ingles and Puero Rico themselves are much like Blackpool with Paella.. Afrikat sailing day was a good one, lunch was very nice and there were two swim stops along the way, and you could pay and do a jet ski (20 euros) and the banana boat (6 euro). Neither of these were for more than a few minutes each, so bit dear.

OVERALL - We had a good time, cannot fault the hotel or the resort itself. I would recommend this to anyone, not an active holiday but plenty of time to chill.. Will be returning to this hotel in the future.

the marina suites was a very nice hotel overall.the only problem we found was,there was 4 of us and there was the bedroom with two single bed and a sofa bed but i would not class it as a double bed and the legs where a bit flimsy so what we had to do was put the matress on the floor and put the bed frame away so one person was left to sleep on the sofa which was a bit bad.we reported this to the reception and the rep they said they would help but they didn't do anything about it.

but overall the area is nice and i would go there again.

We have just come back from staying at the Marina Suites, quite impressive at first when you see the hotel and location, but  feel the staff not very friendly. Room was cleaned every day but banged on our door every morning at 9, then one day came back and found they had cleaned our room but left 'clean' towels that had blood marks on - felt really sick. Pool very nice, although I would imagine in July/Aug you would have no chance in getting a bed. Don't have breakfast there, the bacon is awful. This is a 4 star hotel, I would say 3star rooms, 4 star pool, 2 star service.

The last day did it for me, we had to check out at 12 noon, we were getting picked up at 1.10am - they only gave the guests a 15 minute slot to use the courtesy room, this was a 15min slot for all the family, complete joke, you had to pre-book your time slot, but we ended up waiting for an hour for our 15mins.

We had a wonderful week at the Marina Suites half term week in May 2007. The view from our 3rd floor apartment was fantastic, very relaxing watching the boats coming in and out of the harbour. The apartment was very spacious and comfortable, superbly maintained and cleaned every day. The maids where regular around 9:00 am every morning, but would return later if asked. I liked the lay out of the furnture and the balcony area was brilliant.

We found the staff to be really helpful (all spoke good english, but did enjoy you having a go at spanish) and attentive. The lay out of the complex is very easy of the eye and the pool area is fantastic (liked the free use of the hotel towels). The swimming pool is by far the best I have ever swam in, the infinity illusion really does work. You do feel like you are swimming in the sea. Loved the wooden decking area where you could relax by the sea and just take in the vista.
Puerto Rico itself is lovely although we did prefer around the beach and harbour area, to the commercial centre. 

All in all we loved it at the Marina suites and would go back again, no problem. This is one place we could recommend to anyone.

These apartments are the best apartments we have ever stayed in. We went to Puerto Rico in May 05 with my brother and sis-in-law and stayed in Colina Mar (which were lovely). We spotted Marina Suites on an afternoon walk round the harbour and said how nice they looked. My brother returned in November 05 and stayed there - he said they were fantastic so when we decided to go again in May 07 there was only one place to stay.

When we arrived the staff were really friendly. We were on the 7th floor overlooking the harbour in rooms next to ach other. We wlaked into our exteemely spacious apartment with a huge bedroom (which the children slept in), a more than substantial bathroom, a kitchen which you could hide away with sliding doors, a massive lounge with a sofa bed, chair, tv and table and chairs and a fantastic blacony. WOW!
The maids came in every day and changed the towels and cleaned up/ made beds. They were friendly and cheerful.
We had cards to take to the pool to exchange for hotel towels (unfortunately there were the usual crowd of bagsy a sunbed with a towel and don't bother turning up til 4 in the afternoon!). The infinity pool is heated as is the small childrens pool.
The restaurant next to the pool serves a variety of slads, toasties, pizzas for lunch - we were self catering and didn't eat there in the evening so can't comment on proper meals.

The best restaurants in Puerto Rico are undoubtedly Oscars. if you go in the busy summer months and want to eat at either of Oscars on Friday or Saturday make sure you book. The food is the nicest you will ever taste and it isn't mega expensive.
If you have a car make sure you take a trip To Puerto de Mogan. We usually alternate our evenings between the two resorts. Mogan is a pretty fishing village with restaurants based round the harbour area - lots of nice yachts to look at - it's known as Little Venice. The best restaurants are Costa Bella and Clipper. It's only a 20 minute drive round the coast road and well well worth it.
We can't make any comments about bars as we put the children to bed and sat on the balcony every night watching the world go by.

All in all this is the the best place to stay and we'll definitely be going to Marina Suites again.

We've just returned from the Marina Suites in Puerto Rico which we found to be of a very high standard. The appartments were lovely and were kept spotless. There were a large number of staff working in the complex which we found very nice and very eager to help in any way. 

The pool was called the infinity pool which was very approriate because it looked as if it ran out to the sea. There were plenty of sunbeds so there's no need to be up at 7.30a.m putting your towels out. It was only a ten minute walk from the main centre (and for those who wish to get a taxi it only cost between 2 and 3 euro). The resort itself has lots of bars and restaurants to suit every taste( I'd especially reccomend Dicey Rileys for a drink as the entertainment was great, and Maggie's Crock O'Gold facing the beach for food). We found everything to be very reasonably priced and had no complaints at all while staying here. We'll definitely be going back to the resort and hopefully if we can get them the same appartments as this is the best holiday we've ever had so far.

My/Our Holiday Opinion: 

Just got back from a week at the Marina Suites.  The apartments are brilliant.  Very clean, big, (the poshest we've been in) clean towels every day and they are white and fluffy, the small kitchenette is hidden behind sliding doors, free air-con, big balcony.  No complaints about the room at all.

the view we had from the balcony is over the marina - so yes, there are a lot of boats but it was fine.  The pool area is lovely with the infinity pool but the sun beds get taken very early (you know - towels put out at the crack of dawn).

We didnt eat at the hotel as we were B/B and there are only a few restaurants close by but take a ten minute walk and you come to their centre with lots of shops, restaurants bars etc.  You are constantly asked into every bar, restaurant you pass, but a firm no thanks if ok and just keep walking.

We thoroughly enjoyed eating at Bubbles.  They reconised you on your return and it was a lovely happy friendly atmosphere.  They are the only place that cook paella for one person!!!!

Other restaurants were disappointing in our opinion.  A lot of british food and more or less all offering exactly the same menu.

We went on the Surf & Turf excursion and had dolphins swimming alongside the boat - brilliant!!  The Jeep ride in the afternoon was dirty, dusty, extremely hard on our old bones but GREAT FUN.  Remember to wear clothes that you dont mind getting covered in dust, take a jacket because it is very cold driving open-topped in the moutains but its brilliant getting off-road.

We also went on the Island tour excursion.  The guide was funny and informative.  We enjoyed it but the surf and turf was more fun.

All in all we enjoyed our holiday there.  Great apartments, fun excursions - the food was a little disappointing out and about - too british for us.

Firstly if you booked this hotel, then congratualtions,you made a brilliant choice.

We wasn't dissapointed, we stayed on the 7th floor and had the most wonderfull view of the harbour, the rooms are big and spacious and yes the maid comes in every day, makes the bed and washes up, changes the towels, and everytime you come back to the room its spotless.
Try leaning a bit of spainish, hotel staff will love you for it.
We stayed for two weeks, and I can honestly say I couldn't find fault.
Lets mention some great places to eat..there are loads, but a few that stood out from the rest....Flanagan's Apple& MaDurkins.ummm great breakfast
....Bahia Playa
....Taj Indian(but only ate there once then it closed,had to have the kitchen revamped)
Another Indian we found was in the centre, called..Happy Vally, very nice and plenty.
Harbour lights in a cheap place to hang out, cheap drinks and a quiz everynight.
Yes the touts that are trying to get you to Anfi are a pain, but a polite no thanks normally got them off your back, or tell them you already been.
(or if you have a big hubby like me, they might just ignore you lol)

Anyway we went to sioux city, if you don't drink then its an expensive night, but good all round entertainment and the kids loved it.The food at Sioux city was a BBQ, if you are a big eater have a snack before you go.
We went to Mogan market, bit like Romford market, wasn't very cheap, and I was really disappointed that the market people don't seem to wanna barter no more, everything started at 45 euros, or 20 euro, half that and take off 5 euros and your about right on the price, but its all tat really, can buy better here,and cheaper,Mogan is a wonderful place, and all the places to eat there are really nice, we went over to Moagn twice on the glass bottom ferry, 10 euros each return, great value and you get a glass of sangria.
We went to the water park in Maspalomas, had a great time, only down side there, you have to pay 3 euros for a sunbed each and the food is very expensive..big place,could lose the kids.
We also went to Perto Rico water park, we where told not to as its dangerous and is crap, but we went twice, had a better time there than at maspalomas, its been re-vamped and is very relaxing and you get free sunbeds and the food is very cheap, and you get to see where the kids are most of the time.

Good tip, pick up a book called Tips & info its orange and is out once a month, has a rough guide to puerto rico, and has loads of info for us british on where to go, eat drink etc, most cafes or bars have it on the counter.
We all went sea fishing on the Blue Marlin 3, one of the better fishing boats as it believes in tag and release,I was the only one that really wanted to go the trip, and I was the only one that had my head over the boat all the way there and back, but in between throwing up, I caught a stingray..and my hubby caught a baracuda, kids caught a few smaller fish as well, all got a lovely colour.
Perfume shops are not as cheap, so beware...my perfume here is £35.00 over there worked out to be £49.00.
Only see one cockroach and that was at the airport coming home.

In peak time, the pool (which IS lovely) is very crowded with ridiculous sunbed shenanigans which wear you down over two weeks. The hotel is very nice but can be very 'stuffy' - we found lots of things to be 'impossible' at Marina Suites and we are nowhere near rowdy. It would be nice to use the pool area in the evening more often than once a week as it is a lovely setting too. Would not recommend half board as we found evening meal horribly predictable, overcooked and over-rated. The restaurant is small and 'stuffy' and there is a service charge for drinks - cheek! Breakfast is by the pool & provides you with excellent choices of food.

I found the resort really tacky - loads of chinese, english & indian choices plus pizzas & burgers - almost impossible to find any spanish or canarian feeling bars or restaurants. 

All in all I found the resort & hotel (snooty staff who don't remember you - only small compared with mainland hotels I've stayed in too) very disappointing. This hotel and resort were highly recommended by people I love and trust - loads of people go back year on year - just wanted a bit of quiet Canarian culture and all I got were tacky shopping centres! Top marks to La Cantina by the beach, though - fantastic Mojitos!

The Marina Suites are fabulous.  The rooms are very modern and spacious.  We had excellent views of the Marina from our balconies and would sit there in the evening admiring the view while we had our pre-dinner party!!!
The Pool area is beautiful and the infinity pool is excellent, plus it is heated which really makes a difference.  There are activities you can join in during the day...I would recommend the aqua aerobics, for the laugh!
The steps into the pool are great for the smaller children as you can let them play there safely as they water is shallow.
The best restaurants have to be Oscars. They are situated on the oppostite side of the harbour, about a 10-15 minute walk along the beach.  The food is excellent and we went there 3 nights out of 7.
We are all definately going back to the Marina Suites. I would highly recommend it, even if it means paying that bit extra, as its worth it.

We had a brilliant holiday in Puerto Rico!  October is a great time to go because it's not too hot.  The average daily temperature was in the high twenties.  We fell in love with the place as soon as we arrived!  The scenery is beautiful from any angle, as everything is built on a hillside.  If you like to walk, then you can walk for miles.  There is a beautiful beach called Amadores.  You can walk to it along a cliff.  Takes about half an hour.  The views are fab!

There is another resort called Mogan.  It can be reached by taxi or ferry.  We chose the ferry (?10 return and a glass of sangria).  There is a great market there on Friday mornings.  The place resembles Venice. Flowers everywhere and a lovely Marina.  Food was good wherever we went but I have to say The Red Rose Cafe in the Marina was lovely. 

The Marina Suites are beautiful!  Cleaned daily, fresh towels daily and clean sheets every second day.  Water in the fridge when we arrived and towels available by the pool.  Could'nt ask for more!  The Commercial Centre has every choice of bar on offer. Something for everyone! The Shamrock was great!  Tipperary Sean plays great music and tells plenty jokes!  The Catamaran Cruise on Friday's organised by Sean was great!  It was a brilliant day out and all the drink you can drink!  There was food a plenty and for anyone who wanted, there was Para-gliding and Jet-skis. Excellent!  Oh, and make sure to hold your drink in your left hand bacause if you are caught with it in your right Sean makes sure you get very drunk very fast!  

We loved Puerto Rico so much that we are going again after Christmas!

Just back from the Marina Suites and must say we were very impressed indeed . The rooms were very spacious and clean .The maids came every day with clean towels and left the place immaculate . The pool was lovely and getting a sunbed was no problem , even at about 10am .You could get clean towels for the pool any time you wanted which was very usefull as you didn't have to use your own .Overall would go back there in a minute but not with the kids as they were a bit bored by the pool as there was not much for them to do .Steady Eddie took the water aerobics which we all took part in and then there was darts and table tennis but the kids were not into this so apart from the water aerobics they had nothing to do .

Would not recommend the water park in PR .It was in a word , crp , but would recommend  the water park in Maspolomas ,it was much better and it only cost about 6 euros to get there on the bus for the family .
Very nice hotel , staff friendy and helpful ,nice pool and word of another one getting built for pool activities such as water polo ,volleyball etc .

This hotel is absolutley fabulous(clean, brand new, fab pool area, food,location etc) except for the staff. They were rude, unhelpful, ignorant, unsympathetic and insensitive when my friends money got stolen from her room on the first night. When we checked in the previous evening the reception staff member would not give us a safety deposit box as we requested and told us to come back tomorrow. But it was too late! My friends entire amount of spending money was stolen. Swipe card reports on the room door show the cleaner came 3 times that day to 'service the room'(so she says) but in fact the room was not serviced at all. We told the manager this and she took the cleaners word over ours and did not proceed with any sort of action. We notified the police of course. As a result of the staff being unhelpful, rude etc my friend spent most of her holiday standing at the reception desk waiting for the manager who was in 'meetings' or who would not come out to talk to her at all! Unbelievable!

After reading all the excellent reviews for the Marina Suites on this site, this hotel had a lot to live up to but we could gladly say, we were not to be disappointed.  From the moment you arrive at the hotel, it's location and appearance is second to none.

We were on the 9th floor which had  fantastic views over the pool area, marina and ocean, great for watching the boats sailing in and out of the harbour. The apartment itself was fabulous which had one very large bedroom with 2 single beds pushed together to make a king size and one extremely large living room area consisting of sofa, chair and dining table.  We were staying self catering and the kitchen itself was compact but had microwave, fridge/freezer and oven with 2 hobs and cleverly hidden behind wooden doors to give the illusion of storage space.

The hotel served breakfast which was served in the pool bar - if you're staying self catering, there was a charge of 8 Euros for a Gran Canarian breakfast.  However, if you fancy a more traditional British breakfast, we suggest you pay a visit to Yogi & Benny's which is a 5 minute walk from Marina Suites. 

Marina Suites is a 25 minute walk from the Commercial Centre of Puerto Rico which is where a whole host of bars, restaurants and shops are located.  The only downside is the touts who try to get you into their eaterie, but this is all done in good humour. 

A must see is a visit to Puerto Mogan which is a ferry ride away at only 10 Euros for a return trip.  This is a picturesque town and is nicknamed "Little Venice" which you will see for yourself on your visit.  Well worth a trip!!!

We have already recommended this hotel and resort to family and friends and would have no hesitation in staying here again!

My/Our Holiday Opinion: 

We stayed at the Marina Suites for our honeymoon.  The hotel is fabulous and in a great location, considering how many are way up the hillside, this is right at the edge of the sea, short walk to the local bars and restaurants.
The rooms are huge, very modern (all marble and chrome) with views over the marina and/or sea. Air con is VERY welcome.
We were self catering so can't comment on the food, although I noticed the breakfasts were 8 euros, whereas we had our one and only full english just a 2 minute walk away on the beach for 3 euros and it was great. Also be warned, a half litre bottle of water at the local supermarket was 45 cents, by the pool the same bottle costs 3 euros. A complete rip off.

The infinity pool is fabulous, my arms and shoulders were alot browner than the rest of me due to the fact that i spent so much time in the pool with my arms resting on the side, watching all boats coming and going. The pool wasn't too deep, was always warm and you could always swim as diving/lilos etc were not permitted.

The bad stuff
The downside to this hotel is that it cares more about its image than whether the guests are enjoying themselves. The pool and pool bar close at 6.30pm, even though it is still really busy. You could see guests coming from the beach for a last swim in the pool and being told it was closing. They start polishing and sweeping the floors around you while you're still on your sun lounger trying to read! There is no-where else to get a drink until the bar in the lobby opens and that bar has about as much atmosphere as my big toe! We bought a drink from the pool bar at 5.45pm and were told we had to give the glasses back by 6pm! You are requested to use the hotel towels around the pool,(it just looks better to the passing boats to see a hundred or so loungers, all with lovely blue towels)and you get them from a towel hut where you hand your old ones in and get fresh new ones every day. This tent was never manned though and you sometimes had to wait ages. One day I got fed up of waiting so dared to just help myself and sign against our room number on the pad but then a member of staff came running over and told me go back and wait. We fondly called it the Hitler hut after that... Also my husband who had been sitting by the pool wanted a newspaper. It is requested that men wear a top or t-shirt when in the lobby but we took that to be whilst in the bar. As we were on the 8th floor, he couldn't be bothered to go up to get one so popped out for his paper but was told off loudly in reception on his return. Funnily enough, by the same member of staff who later ignored everyone that came into the hotel after a night on the town. How rude.

My final groan is housekeeping. Don't get me wrong, they were fantastic, the rooms are kept spotless. However, we were on honeymoon and went self catering so that we weren't on any "timetable" for meals or getting up etc.  We had no chance of a lie-in - they knock the door and let themselves in at between 8.30 and 9am. Way too early, we even put a "do not disturb" sign on the door, that day we got 2 visits - one at 9.15 and another at 9.45am. This was every day for 2 weeks. Maybe most folk are already up and out and fighting over the sunbeds but we went away to relax and get up when WE wanted to. If you stopped them coming in, they did the next room VERY loudly, scraping all the furniture across the floors etc.

On the last day, we asked for 2 towels for the pool as our flight wasn't until 11.20pm, we had to leave a 60 euro deposit incase we ran off with them!  They weren't worth 10 euros!! We were given a room to change later but only allowed 15 minutes per couple. They timed you!

I guess it just wasn't laid back enough for us. There was no trouble (apart from us being told off) and no "riff-raff", no noise late at night, but then again, no late bar, no entertainment, no atmosphere, no music by the pool. We got talking to quite a few other guests around the pool and this seemed to be the general opinion. We were all asked to fill in a survey before leaving so fingers crossed, things might improve for next Summer.

We only went to the commercial centre twice and the first time wasn't until 10 days into our holiday. It's good fun but a bit too "Blackpool" for me, people outside every bar touting for business and trying to get you inside, each bar trying to get their music louder than the next etc. There are some good bars and shops though. We mainly stayed around the marina. Gran Canaria restaurant by the Spar did the best T-bone steaks. Best value drinks were at the end of the marina, upstairs above the shops - a bar called "Harbour lights". 2 local spirits for 4 euros, 2 pints san miguel 3 euros. The irish bars are the most expensive but you should go at least once to Flanagan's Apple. The resident singer - Jimmy Mack was fab, he was on from 10pm until about 12.30 ish, then there was karaoke until after 2am by which time everyone is mullered and it was hilarious. There' a sign in there that says" There are no strangers here, just friends who have not yet met". Definitely true, we met some really nice people (including the bar staff) and drank there most nights.

Puerto Rico is lovely, very friendly, very hot (no rain there since March 2006). I would go back to Marina suites as it is the best located Hotel and you can't beat the pool. We'll just leave it a while until they hopefully read all the surveys!

It was our first stay on Gran Canaria and the Marina Suites was every bit as good as it looks in the brochure.  The room was spacious and clean and as we were on the 8th floor (there are 9) we had a great view of the marina and the rest of the resort. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. We did not have any problem  getting a sunbed when we went down around 10am as we don't bag beds but if you want one in a prime position then I suppose you will need to!!!  We enjoyed using the jacuzzis. It was easy to get the pool towels. The safe cost ?56 + ?10 deposit for our 2 week stay.

The beach was clean and again you could get a bed on the beach at any time of the day.  The sunbeds cost ?2.50 each and umbrellas ?2 each.  There are plenty of places to get food and drink around the beach area.

We found the best places to eat were immediately around the harbour area and also by a small shopping area found if you go through the tunnel to the right of the Marina Suites.  Our favourites were the Caracolas opposite the Marina Suites (on the other side of the Marina), they were extremely friendly but beware if you order the Argentinian Steak as this is literally the size of a small joint of beef so unless you are feeling hungry share it between two (as the Spanish did). El Gaitero (under the tunnel)was another favourite as again the staff were very friendly and if you have children they absolutely love them, always joking around with them. Our other favourite was the Toro Bravo Steakhouse(under the tunnel) but they were a little more expensive but they did give us a jug of sangria for free and they too love the children. Most meals averaged out to ?70 for 4 main courses with drinks and the occasional dessert but please be aware of the cost of a large coke as we were charged anything between ?0.75 and ?4.25 (it can add a hefty amount to the final bill).

Use the Portonova supermarket at is a lot cheaper in comparison to Netto and Spar.

We walked to Amadores as there is a coastal path leading to it which you can find on the other side of the bay and it will take approx 20-30 mins to get there. It is a lovely bay and there are plenty of places to eat and drink along the beach area.

We took a ferry to Puerto Mogan (?10 each), it is a lovely place and a complete contrast to Puerto Rico. If you take your swimming gear there is a nice beach where you can shower off when you leave.  There are a few shops that sell some nice souvenirs and plenty of restaurants.  We also took a ferry to Arguineguin (again ?10) but did not like it there very much, although the beach is ok.  And if you want to know exactly how some of the locals live then go there it will open your eyes.  We did not go on Market Day but both resorts have one.

We went to the Commercial Shopping Centre the 3rd day into our holiday and absolutely hated it because of the endless touts trying to drag us into their restaurants or trying to get us to go on a trip to Anfi del Mar to view the resort and accommodation there.  We only went back there on the last day of our holiday. If you don't mind the hassle then you will find MacDonald's, Crazy Golf, a park, bars, disco, plenty of tourist shops and the local Water Park.

There is also the Europa Shopping Centre at the top of the resort.  You will find steps near the Pasarella.  There are 660 step to the Puerto Azul Hotel and then a steep hill and some more steps. If you like walking and views then it is worth the effort. It is similar to the main commecial centre but there aren't as many touts. Definitely get a taxi if you hate any form of exercise.

Puerto Rico is a resort of many contrasts and caters for many different tastes, just remember to keep an open mind and you will find your favourite parts. We had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday and if we went back to Gran Canaria we would definitely go back to the Marina Suites.

 Just back from a week at the Marina Suites, and they are brilliant, the staff are helpful, friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

The suites themselves are huge, large bedroom, with two large single beds pushed together to make a double bed, (2 adults and a child slept in this with no trouble, plenty of space), and enought room to fit a cot in as well.  The bathroom is lovely and big with both a bath and shower over the bath.  The living area was seperate and a double sofa bed was also alvailable in here if you should need it,( couldnt be bothered to pull it out each night, and enough room in the large double bed). Kitchen area was consealed in a cupboard, not very large but had everything you could need if going self catering, only dpwnside was you couldnt use the cooker for more than 10 minutes at a time.  We went half board so only used the fridge, you received 3 bottles of water complimentary water on arrival.
We had a room on the sixth floor, overlooking the pool, great view looking over the pool and harbour area, nice just to sit and watch the boats coming and going.

The pool area was lovely and had plenty of sunbeds, the beds by the pool where often taken first but there was a few left if you wish to sit by the pool, we used to sit by the jacuzi which was abit quieter.  The jacuzi's state only to be used by 16 years and over but a few children were playing them and nobody said anything, also the supposingly state no towels to be placed on sun loungers but everybody did so.  Towels for the poll were supplied by the hotel and could be changed at any time.but make sure that you dont leave them as you get charged 30 euros per towel if lost.

I was abit worried about the food after reading some of the other reviews, but personally we couldnt fault the food, either at the pool bar or in the main restaurant.  Breakfast was served between 8.30am and 11.30am at the poolside bar, and was buffet style, plenty of fresh food, the staff was always filling up if anything became empty.  Lunch was served between 1.30pm and 3.30pm, and again you could have a buffet style for 8 euros (adult) and 5 euros (child) or if prefered a sandwich or pizza for a small charge.  Evening meal was served in the main restaurant from 6.30pm until 9.30pm and there was always plenty of choice, a differnt soup every evening, salads, cold meats, cheeses, and different hot meals, fish meat and a chefs choice.  even for the desserts there was about 5 differnt choices each night from fresh fruit to cake  mousses, and the chef special.  Everything was labelled so you knew what you was eating.

The bar itself was nice, slightly more expensive then the bars in the resort, but there was plenty of room to relax, the only downside was no evening entertainment.

The staff all thought children were great infact, the were smitten with babies, and always wanted a cuddle with my 9 month old baby boy, they always came talking to you and the children and couldnt do enough for you.

The resort itself was lovely down by the marina was so peaceful and you could get a boat from here to go to most places on the island,  we went to Puerto morgan for 10 euros each (return)  on the friday for the market, each was good takes about 50 minutes but is worth the visit. The stall holders like to barter with you and if you dont like the price they want walk away and most will eventually take the price which you are prepared to pay.  There are a few bars along side the marina, which serve food and are quite plesant, staff are very friendly, and again like children. Irish bar within this stretch called finigans bar, do evening entertainment, can get abit loud at times. If you fancy a curry whilst in Gran Canaria then a must is the Taj restaurant about 50 metres away from the hotel, (up to the roundabout and across the road), The food there is excellant and nearly as good as you get at home, infact better than some places we have been to.  The beaches are nice, clean but do get abit busy at the weekends, but still plenty of room for everyone.

If you walk around the beach there are a few bars, shops and restaurants, and only takes about 10 minutes to walk there.

The main shoppinhg centre is about 25 minutes walk away, or 3 euros in a taxi.  This area can get very busy at night and everybody is competing for your custom.  Always trying to get you into thier bar or restaurant.  But very good for perfume, can get a few good bargains here.

I can definately say that we would go back to the marina suites as it is such a lovely hotel and deserves to be a five star hotel.

Returned last week from the excellent Marina Suites.  I must first say that in 12 years of going abroad for our holidays this is bar far the best accomodation we have stayed in.  Large, clean appartments with everything to make your stay enjoyable. Air con was much appreciated as the temp was in the high 30's every day. Pool side towels available free of charge just hand in your card in at the towel station for large towels for use by the pool.  Infinity pool to die for just laze in the pool watching the boats go by! 2 jacuzzis for use close to the pool.  Free table tennis and table football and books and games available to play with by the pool. 

Excellent location on the flat by the Marina.  5 mins to beach, bars and restuarants close by. Netto - 5 minutes away. Further shops, bars and restuarants 15 minute walk.  Best Indian - Taj Palace.  Best bar - Harbour lights cheap drinks and a Bailey's cocktail to die for.

Book this accomodation and you won't be dissappointed.  Rumoured to be going 5* soon and I can see why.

We booked this hotel at First Choice without doing any checks. We then looked at the reviews and thought, looks as if it could be OK

Marina Suites apartment were just exactly as has been said in other previous reviews.

Spacious spotless rooms, Great Pool, Room Views. Rooms are cleaned every day. Air conditioning brilliant !!...just remember to make sure that the balcony door is closed properly.

Overall the Hotel was ideal for a Family Holiday. Water aerobics and competitions during the day are OK and don't really inconvenience anybody who wants a quiet "chill out" lie by the pool Holiday.
Maybe just lacking a bit on entertainment for kids who are 13 - 16Yrs.

We went self catering, so no comment of food in the Hotel.

Spar, Netto small supermarkets are nearby (5 mins). Another small "Supermercado" is closeby and although does not have as big a choice, it is about 10 -20% cheaper on most goods.

So if your going to Puerto Rico, no need to look elsewhere for accomodation.

Restuarants.
Red Rose - very good.

At the end of the row towards the harbour there is an Argentinian restuarant which we can't remember the name of, but fillet steaks were great as well as the prices for them.

Italian Clann which is upstairs above the electrical shops at the back of the beach did wicked Pizza for the kids, as well as Pasta dishes...again prices fine.

Ciao Ciao (Italian) which is around at Playa Amadores beach served up great food and service, mind you Italy had just won the world cup !!!

San Miguel restuarant in the commercial centre was good value, with massive portions for fussy hungry teenagers.

Cafe Sol which is just along from the Clann is great for the classic fussy teenager. ie Burgers, Toasties, Chicken wings, sausages. They do a fantastic Platter dish which the kids loved. Also must mention that they do real chips.
Fantastics Salad wraps as well as a number of other unfussy foods. They have Pool table also which the kids can play on while the parents chill on the terrace.

There are plenty of other restaurants about which I'm no doubt are also good.

For teenagers, as well as daft 40+ers there are Jetskis over at the beach for hire. Try not to miss the Red Boat, absolutely brilliant skimming across the water at 50-60mph.

Trips along to Mogan & Maspolomas/Melonaras were quite intereting.

Weve just returned after a week at the Marina Suites. All we can say is excellent. These apartments are right next to the marina itself, so no treks up the mountainside needed.

The rooms are excellent, very clean and modern (marble/crome design). There were only the 2 of us staying and the apartment was huge. Through the entrance door into a huge lounge with sofa, chair and TV. There is a large balcony with table and chairs (ours overlooked the marina and the sea.)At the far end is a small kitchenette with microwave, kettle, fridge, sink, and cooking rings. There is plenty of crockery, cutlery and glasses/cups, even wine glasses! The bathroom was also large with sink toilet and overbath shower that was very powerful (be careful if youve caught too much sun, ouch!)The bedroom has windows again overlooking the sea and marina. There are 2 single beds pushed together to make almost a kingsize. There is also another patio door from the bedroom to the balcony.

There is air conditioning in the lounge and the bedroom, and this only works when your keycard is in the slot (as do the lights) and the patio doors are locked. It provided welcome relief from the heat, even that you may wish to turn it down (although we didnt as we enjoyed the feeling of cold, strange!)

The pool is lovely (its called the infinity pool as when you are next to it, you cant tell where the pool ends and the sea begins, an optical illusion. There were plenty of sunbeds at all times of day, although strangely the pool doesnt open until 10 am although you can still use a lounger before this. It closes at 6pm

There is a pool bar next to the pool which again strangely doesnt serve food until after 1pm. This was very basic, burgers and sandwiches although there wasnt anything wrong with the food, perhaps a bit more variation is needed.

We went self catering so couldnt comment on the restaurant food.

The resort itself is like a town of 2 halves. The area near the Marina Suites is fine, with bars and restaurants ranging from cheap and cheerful, to gourmet cuisine. We ate at several places, those nearest to the Marina Suites included the Red Rose (variety of food at modest prices) and Taj Palace (indian, very nice). We also ate round the other side of the marina at Oscars, Oscars Del Puerto (upstairs), and our favourite being Caballito Del Mar. These 3 were more expensive but well worth it. We had starters, main course and 1 desert with wine, varying from 60-85 Euros for the meal in total. There are plenty of beach bar type places offering much cheaper food.

The other half of the town (about 15 minute walk from the Marina Suites is centered around the shopping centre. This is more your typical "neon" type night out with bars/eating places by the dozen. We only ventured here during the day for the shops and could imagine by nightfall it was a mecca for the young and restless! Seemed much cheaper around here, although more your buffet type meals or "all you can eat" types. Not really our thing.

All in all if you are looking for a wild time then this is not the place for you. If you are a couple or a family then this is definitely the place. Especially as you arent staying halfway up a mountain.The beach is only 5 minutes walk (that is a real 5 minutes, not a travel brochure one. There are plenty of places to eat/drink in within 10 minute walk (and if you do fancy something a bit more lively then the shopping centre is only 15 minutes walk.

The accommodation is excellent and very clean (maids every day, fresh towels everyday also). A supermarket is only 5 minutes away also.

One point to note is that the check in staff at Las Palmas are like no other we have encountered. We were 5 kilos over between us on the cases, but we had no hand luggage ( yet are allowed 10 kilos between us) and she tried to charge us. We were having none of it so we took some things out of the case and carried it in carrier bags! Strange considering it was all going on the plane anyway!

Just got back from the marina suites for the 2nd year running pleased to say standards are still as good as last year, cant fault anything, weather exceptionally good, eddy still on at the pool doing his usual stuff!, all staff very helpful and friendly, cant beat the place for value for money and luxury, highly reccommended you wont be dissappointed, best places to eat are just up the road near netto supermarket, el gaitero was our favourite very entertaining waitors and great food,will definatly be booking up again, once you have been you want to keep returning year after year!, cant speak highly enough about the place!

Our third time to Puerto Rico but first time staying at the Marina Suites and will not stay anywhere else in future!

The apartment was on the 9th floor so we had excellent views of the pool area and the sea. Paid a little extra for a "select room" and got a dvd player and bathrobes.

Maid service was fantastic, came in every day to clean and make the beds. It really was spotless and not a cockroach in sight!!

We went self catering but had breakfast in the hotel twice. It's 6euros for a buffet brekfast which was ok but a little cold. The views while you eat are amazing - looking out over the sea.

Sunbeds are plentiful although you are a little squashed in! The pool area is kept clean at all times and there were no inflatables covering the water!

The daytime entertainment consists of aqua aerobics, darts and table tennis which is all run by Eddie (who is excellent at his job). There was also salsa classes and snorkelling.

The only thing they can improve on is to add some night entertainment as you dont always feel like going to the main shopping centre after a day in the sun.

The best place to eat is san miguels, meals are large and good value. The best bar is Harleys - went nearly every night!

For shopping try the Mogan market on a friday, you can get there by the glass bottom ferries for 9euro return, plenty of bargains to be had!! Also the main shopping centre has plenty of pefume shops that are half the price of what we pay back home! Its the same for cigerettes and alcohol.

One of the best holidays we've ever had and booking to stay at the Marina Suites later in the year.

this hotel is second to none very clean friendly helpful staff and pure luxury

I would recommend these apartments to anyone including the less mobile, disabled and those travelling with young children.  We try to travel abroad about 5 times a year and booked this accommodation to try out 'self-catering' as we always stay in hotels.  From a comfort and cleanliness point of view these rooms are fantastic.

We had a double room and a double bed settee for our two girls (4 and 3)  in the living area.  The kitchenette was absolutely immaculate although I have to confess we only used the fridge as we ate out every night and used the hotel buffet breakfast in the mornings.  This was adequate but I am glad we didn't go half board.  However, for the 4 of us breakfast was only 14 Euros so I have no complaints.

We travelled with First Choice, the flights were good but we didn't use the Rep once whilst we were in the resort.  We didn't attend the welcome meeting as we are pretty independent but we were aware that he did visit every day.

Mobility wise it is great for Wheelchairs and Pushchairs.  The bathrooms are huge and they are designed to be able wheel a wheelchair into for easy access.  The only downside to the bathrooms were that we (especially the kids) like a bath but there wasn't one.

If you like good, non touristy, classy restaurants I can highly recommend Don Quiote and Oscars (on the 1st floor of the parapde of shops) for dinner but book in advance (at least 2 or 3 days before) for a table.  Neither are cheap but the food is fantastic (around 100 Euros with wine for 2, plus 2 kids).  Oscars also have a smaller restaurant for lunch which is also fab.  Avoid all the restaurants in the commercial centres (in my opinion).  They're tacky, inferior and you get what you pay for.

We will definitely go back here purely for the cleanliness, friendliness and location of the Suites.  They also have a hotel kids club which we used everyday with good facilities, plenty for the kids to do and extremely clean. (Spanish run with good English and nothing to do with First Choice).

The first thing you will notice is that we only rated the apartments as very good and not excellent like most other visitors.

The reason for this is that we booked half board but the food was probably the worst we have ever experienced on any previous holiday. We were notified just before we left for the holiday that the evening meal arrangements were changing from A La Carte to Buffet style. We would not recommend half board as an option at these apartments.

This would not, however, deter us from staying at these apartments again.

The apartments themselves are of a superior quality and are kept spotlessly clean by excellent cleaning staff. The reception area is clean and bright and staffed by a very polite crew.The lifts are a bit hitty missy and are a bit of let down for such a highly rated apart hotel.

The rooms are of a high quality and equipped with all you would require for an enjoyable holiday. The rooms are extremely spacious but the separate bedroom could do with a bit more drawer space and the bedside units are inadequate. Take your own coat hangers. The view from our balcony was absolutely fabulous overlooking the marina with a boatyard just off to the left. Take binoculars. The maid service was excellent with clean towels everyday and bedding changed three times a week.

The infinity pool is excellent with a superb aspect but the sunbeds are very squashed in, nothing like the photograph on the First Choice website. Some sunbeds could not be laid flat due to the lack of space. Towels are provided at the poolside and can be changed whenever you like.

Everyone at the hotel seemed to go out of their way to add to our enjoyment, except perhaps, those in charge of the restaurant.

The drinks at the hotel are, in our opinion, expensive (3-80 Euros a pint, 2-50 Euros elsewhere) as are the charges for safety deposit boxes 56 Euros for two weeks + 10 Euro deposit which was returned on departure.

Evening entertainment at the hotel is none existant but the is plenty going on elsewhere -

- Try the Barbocoa at the Europa Centre (4 Euros in a taxi). We went twice, the first was on a Thursday particlarly good for the fellas - get there early to get a seat at the front near the stage (the lasses enjoyed it too). The second was The Drifters every Sunday.
- Try Flanigans Apple an Irish bar with a good singer who starts at 10-00 pm and goes none stop till 01-00pm +.

We ate out on an evening a few times, because of the poor quality in the hotel. Our favourites were the Red Rose and the Barbocoa.

We didn't use the main shopping centre much as we thought it was a little tacky. A couple of good bars which also do decent snacks are The Rovers Return and The Hot Spot. The Hot Spot also good for football.

We thought Amodores Beach was the best of the two beaches. You can get there by taxi (3-50 Euros) or even better a 20 minute walk along the cliff footpath, absolutely fabulous. For lunch there try The Pride of London bar which does good quality, wholesome food and a decent pint.

We used the local buses a few times on trips to Playa Del Ingles, Masspolomas and Melonares, very cheap and quite efficient.

All in all we had a brilliant holiday and are looking forward to going back next January.

I can state quite unequivocally that this is one of the best apartments I have stayed in.  The rooms were large and stylish. The balcony had a glass barrier which allowed you to see the fantastic view of the harbour and Puerto Rico.
The pool area was amazing - a fantasic heated infinity pool - one section had jacuzzis, the sunloungers were plentiful, no pre-booking here as towels were handed out daily at the pool area. 

The entertainment was brilliant enjoyed the aqua aerobics, my son thoroughly enjoyed his free scuba diving lesson and the competitions i.e table football, darts etc.
There are two hot tubs in the sunbathing garden which were lovely to dip into at the end of the day.
Location couldn't be better -  next to the marina, if you've ever stayed in Puerto Rico you know that you are in a valley and can be located on a hillside, but the beauty of these arparments are that they are on the sea front therefore flat. Highly recommend the Restaurant Don Quitoxe - booking recommended as the food is fabulous.
I am a big fan of Puerto Rico,in my opinion it has something for everyone, from good restaurants excellent beaches, good nightlife e.g shows like the Funny Boys(in the commercial centre). 
Porto Mogan is well worth a visit, nice fish restaurants, and its a very pretty place.

What more can I say except I wish I was there now. And will be visiting again and again and again. We go away twice a year and unfortunately we tend to compare everywhere since with these apartments.

just arrived back from the marina suites,
after spending a week there, as the other reviews say these apartments are supberb, could not fault the rooms in anyway,only you can only have two chairs on the balcony unless you take the dinning ahairs out.

flanagans is a great nite out, we also ate in san miguels, there is a great steak house just under ther bridge its the one nearest the crazy golf, all in all we had a superb holidy and when i come back to gran canatia i will not hesitate to stay here.

we have just one complaint that spoilt the holiday and that is if you have a late flight you have to be out your roon at nooon, we were picked up at 11 45pm we could not keep our room on and there was no coutesy room, we spoke to our rep and she got in touch with first choice which after this we were allowed 15 mins in a room for the whole party and some of the parties that were departing with us had 5 people and still had only 15mins.

just got back from a brilliant holiday at the marina suites in puerto rico, accomodation very high standard, very clean and spacious, very friendly and helpful staff, especially edwardo and maria by the pool, won plenty of free drinks from the competitions, weather was very hot (37degrees at 16.50!!)excellent views from where ever you are situated.
the best bit about the place is the pool, its amazing, very big and a wonderful view of the sea and harbour.
plenty to do in the resort, alot of places to eat and drink, fun for all ages.
there is so much more i could write about the resort and appartments but i would carry on forever!, so go on and try it, trust me you wont be dissapointed!
the only thing i could really fault the hotel for is in the family rooms the bed in the lounge is a double which makes it a bit awkward for the kids.

will be booking up soon for next year, cant wait already

We are just back from 1 week in the Marina Suites and they were great.  The suite is lovely and big, with bedroom, bathroom, living room and a close off kitchen, which is well equipped.  The kitchen has toaster, kettle, microwave, and a coffee machine plus two rings and also has a full size fridge which actually works well compared to a lot of fridges we have experienced in the past!

The pool area is so nice and the towels they supply you with are big and soft. There are Jacuzzi seats in the pool, which are really refreshing as well as two Jacuzzis on the terrace although only one of these was working while we were there.  The terrace can get a bit busy so we found it best to go right to the far end of the pool by the decking.  There was no real problem with people reserving sunbeds although we met someone who had been in March and said that as soon as the pool area opened at 8 am it was like the charge of the light brigade to get to the sunbeds, so perhaps we had a quiet week.  Towards the end of the week a lot of people with kids arrived and inevitably the pool started to fill up with blow up crocs and sharks and boats etc.  There are big signs on the walls saying no inflatables so it was a bit disappointing to see people ignoring the signs.

We were self catering but did have breakfast in the hotel one morning which was 6 euros each, the content was fine and plentiful but a bit on the cold side.

Out and about, I would give the Puerto Rico beach a miss and make the effort to go to Amodores beach which is about 20 minute stroll along a cliff path with stunning views! The beach itself is very clean, and there are toilets with showers and lockers.  There are also little foot showers as well.  They also made regular announcements asking smokers not to leave cigarette ends on the beach, which we though were great. It has lots of shops and cafes along it and all seemed to be very clean and very reasonably priced.  We had breakfast consisting of the usual sausage, bacon, egg, beans, tomato and 2 toasts, with orange juice and tea or coffee for 3.95 euros in the Titanic café/restaurant at Amodores.   We also had lunch there one day and it was just as good.

Mentioning breakfasts and prices - do not go to Yogi and Bennys near the Marina suites for breakfast as we felt totally ripped off there.  We went on our last morning and there are different breakfast to choose from we chose the medium breakfast for 5 euros each which was 1 bacon, 1 sausage, 1 egg, beans and toast and ordered our coffee and orange juice as well as we had done everywhere else.  Only thing was the drinks are not included in the price of 5 euros (like they were in every other place we had breakfast) so when the bill came it was not 10 euros but 20 as each drink was 2.50 euros so it was approx £14 for two breakfasts.

Apart from that we found everywhere else to be really nice.  Recommend Restaurant Gran Canaria which is by the beach near the spar shop.  We went to the commercial centre and found it to be reasonably priced.  One shop we liked was by Puerto Rico beach called Cristal and it sold cigarettes, and alcohol cheaper than any we could find in the commercial centre! 

As an extra the food on the First Choice flights was yummy both ways with lovely "to die for" chocolate puddings!

All in all we had great time and would recommend this to anyone.

We have been going to puerto rico since 1994,  not evey year i may add,we were there 3 years ago and saw the marina suites being built and thought these apartments would be something different. 

We just got back after a weeks stay and i can confirm in my opinion it is the  best accommodation in p.rico, the views are spetacular and the pool area is something to behold. The apartment is very large and the air conditioning is a hugh bonus, a little touch of class in a resort that hasen't changed since 1994 still has the same pubs, eating houses, wish they would upgrade the resort to the same standards of the maria suites.

The Marina Suite Apartments were superb. Spotlessly clean and very spacious, we had 4 adults sharing our room and had worried about it being cramped but the apartments were large, spacious, light with good air conditioning and immaculately clean! 

The pool area was perhaps the best I've ever been to with the pool edge overlooking the sea, we didn't even feel the need to venture outside of the hotel.  We had no problems whatsoever getting sun beds and the sun terraces, although busy were not overly packed.  The water aerobics every weekday morning was brilliant and worth doing, there is a great atmosphere aroudn the pool during this and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Going out and finding nice restaurants for meals was not a problem, everywhere we ate had a lot to offer and were we were quite fussy but found plenty to suit us. Most restaurants just a very short walk away and a whole lot more up in the main square which you can walk or taxi.

Myself andmy sister sampled the Puerto Rico nightlife and found plenty of bars and discos to keep us entertained most nights up at the main square complex, also lots of photo opportunities from staff in the bars taking photos and you are able to purchase the photos to caputre the best bits of your nights out. Never a dull moment and thoroughly enjoyed letting ourselves go dancing up on the tables at Harleys bar!

Weather superb, hotel excellent, resort lovely - would definitely return - something for everyone and any age.

If the rest of Puerto Rico was as good as the Marina Suites it would be heaven on earth! 

We could not fault the accommodation or it's staff. Everything we had read about it was correct. This place is very professionally run and the staff are very pleasant and helpful. It's strict on it's rules of no excessive noise, no towels hanging on the balconies (what a relief!)no bare chests (male or female)in the lobby or bar area. It does not attract the usual gangs and I doubt if they would last there too long.Our room on the 2nd floor overlooked the marina and provided excellent views of the surrounding area and the sea. It was spacious, very clean and well equipped. Full marks to our daily cleaner who excelled in her duty - she left nothing undone. Fresh towels every day and seperate towels when you went to the pool. 

The pool - what can we say.Go see it for yourself you will be impressed - the views,clear clean water,vigilant lifeguard,plenty of sunbeds and a decking area overlooking the sea - just lie back in the sun and dream it's yours! If you're feeling energetic you can partake in the daily 'water aerobics'class or other poolside entertainment. If not,get a drink at the poolside bar and relax in peace.The hotel is in a quiet location,other than the occasional from noise from the shipyard, and is a short distance(10 mins walk)from the hustle and bustle of the Commercial Centre - ?3 in a taxi if your feeling lazy. 

There is no evening entertainment however and the bar can be a bit 'stuffy' so those of you with small kids but enjoy a bit of crack will have to bring them with you to the centre or elsewhere. There are 3 supermarkets within walking distance and a few pubs and restaurants. The Commercial Centre however is where it all happens - shops,clubs, restaurants and of course pubs! It is a bit tacky and could do with the occasional clean-up - in fact the whole area could be better maintained considering the amount of tourist money that must be flooding into it. Anyway,we had no complaints when it came to eating out as there is an abundance of restaurants all competing for your business and offering excellent value and service. Prepare to be hasselled by salesmen/touts inviting you to sample their wares as competition is fierce. Our favourites were El Toro(go if your hungry, you wont be dissapointed,try the T-Bone challenge!) El Pescadore, San Miguel and the Slow Boat Chinese where you could eat all you can from an excellent buffet for ?4.80 (you can't go wrong at that price).

Restaurant Gran Canaria and Praia Baia on the beachfront were also very good. There are pubs to suit all tastes in the centre all providing some form of entertainment which unfortunately is repeditive so two nights in the same pub is enough. Don't miss a night in Scruffy Murphy's especially if your Irish - you won't forget Stevie for a while for his sharp wit,acid tongue and 'groping hands'and of course the good aul tunes and crack. Take a trip on his 'booze cruise' if you dare. The nearest pub to the hotel is Flannigans Apple just accross the marina beside the Red Rose Cafe where there is also a bank link. Here you will be entertained 7 nights a week by Steve Carey. Unfortunately like all the other entertainers he sticks to the same repretoire every night!! We ran out screaming on our 3rd visit and it's a shame because he's a good musician and well able to alter his performance each night. For your sanity and ours Steve 'change the record'. That said we'll be back to Puerto Rico and the Marina Suites and so should you - give it a try.

We arrived at our hotel at 06:00 hrs & were checked in with in minutes. When we got to our room we were very pleasantly surprised,the room was massive it consisted of a large double bedroom & i mean LARGE,a well equipped bathroom with full bath & a brilliant shower, a hairdrier was provided which my girlfriend found very handy,the lounge area consisted of a sofa which folded down into a fairly comfy double bed a couple of occasional tables & a kitchenette which was cleverly hidden away by a pair of folding doors, the kitchen was well equipped with 2 hobs a kettle,toaster & coffee maker& A fridge, you had a complete set of crockery & cutlery & you even had an extractor fan.

The lounge led out on to a reasonably big balcony which overlooked the marina & the sea,the views were breathtaking.I must add that the air-conditioning was most welcome.
The pool area was actually overlooking the sea,there were always sunloungers available but you had 2 be up early 2 get the best ones, i mean 07:30!!
everything about this hotel oozed class & i would definitely recommend it to anyone.

we found a few nice restaurants nearby & a couple of bars,but if you really wanted night life you had to go to either the commercial centre or the europa centre botn were only a taxi ride away,personally i found both of them rather tacky & completely lacking in any kind of charm,you could have been anywhere in the world, they were that characterless,however i would definitely come here again.I must mention one restaurant that really was spot on it was just through the tunnel & was called El Gaitero good food & pleasant staff.

Booked on line and got cheap flight with globespan. Arrived late in the evening and the only fault was that there was no cot provided although had been previously arranged. Resolved 1st thing following morning. All staff were polite and courteous at all times, rooms cleaned daily, fresh towels and even fresh towels for the pool. Room space is fantasic and modern furniture - take extra coat hangers.
Requested Marina view 1 week before arriving and what a view it is, especially having a drink and watching the lovely sunsets.
Be prepared to queue in the morning to get a good spot for the pool as it gets busy.

They have just opened a kids club from ages 4-12 daily, but do not have in house evening entertainment, but Night-life is only a 15min stroll, for the hustle and bustle, or a 2min walk under the tunnel for some lovely restuarants.  The El Gaitero was our favourite, good food and good service.
Palamitos Park is good for the kids but be prepared for a lot of walking.
The local Aqua park is sufficient as there are not too many queues, but plenty of slides.
Check out time is midday, if there are many people leaving you get allocated a 15min slot in a courtesy room which with 3 girls is impossible.!!
Lucky enough we met a great family who were kind enough to let us use their room( Paul, Lynn, Laura & Chloe from the N. East xx)

Highly recommend this hotel to any family.

Have just returned from Marina Suites after 2 weeks of relaxation in the sun.
As per all other reviews hotel seems to be  probably the best in Peurto Rico.
1 bed apartment very large, lots of marble and all very clean. Fantastic views from balcony over Marina and Rico`s main beach. Would imagine "pool view" apartments to be just as good.
Pool is not massive but adequate, never seemed too full. Position of "infinity" pool is amazing , just relax and watch the boats coming and going all day long, superb location. Sunbeds can be at a premium if you like to lie in beyond 9 am.
Did not eat in hotel so cannot comment on the food but poolside snack bar did look inviting.
Maid service was good, always clean towels and sheets daily and quite thorough with their cleaning.

Only small bad points were the cost of the safe in your room (56 euros per fortnight). I believe this is being abused because they know you have to use the safe in order to be covered by insurance. Was told by 2 previous guests that it was 50 euros, guess their prices went up on the day i arrived.
Also as per previous reviews entertainment is non existant in the evening. Daytime ok if u like darts,table tennis, or table football.
Overall though a great place to stay and relax.

The Marine Suites were superb and excellently located alongside the marina.  The facilites, cleanliness and helpful staff made an enjoyable and relaxing holiday for us.  The swimming pool area overlooks the sea, has plenty of sunbeds, free poolside towels.  Poolside entertainment was available, i.e. games etc., entertainer sounded good, but we did not participate.  Unfortunately no evening entertainment.

We had their buffet breakfast a couple of mornings which offered a good variety of food suitable to all.
The first couple of nights we ate at restaurants in the shopping centre, food was ok.  We then found "Restaurante Las Caracolas" which is by the Marina.  The food and service was excellent.  I would recommend that everyone pays a visit to "Sam" and his staff.
I booked through First Choice via the internet, but the flight was with Thomas Cook.  All arrangements went extremely well and the flights arrived at their destinations early!

I would definitely like to revisit Marine Suites and Puerto Rico on a future occasion.

were can we start,from the minute we landed at las palmas airport,every thing was fantastic,we booked a chauffer driven car to pick us up at the airport, we booked this over the internet before we traveled and only had to pay when we got there,the cost was 80euros return,which was cheaper than a taxi.he dropped us at the reception and carried our cases in for us and told them at reception who we were,the people on reception were so nice and welcomed us,

we went up to our room and could not believe the size of them the apartment was huge,it was beautiful.there were thick white towelling dressing gowns folded on the beds and slippers to match,in the bathroom there was a hair drier soap dispenser and lovely thick white huge bath towels,the living area was spacious with built in fitted kitchen and microwave,there was  a bed sette that was very comfy,out side the balcony was big.the only thing was that there were only 2 chairs to sit on  if there were 4 people in the room you would have to take dining chairs out of the kitchen,we were on the 5th floor and in the 2weeks we were there we never once had to use the stairs,there were 3 lifts.

plenty of sunbeds no matter what time of day you go down to the pool.the entertainment round the pool during the day is good.edwardo does spanish lessons at 10.45 then at 12 oclock its water aerobics,this was really good fun i did it every day and this is how you get to meet people,at 2oclock its darts time for everybody, then at 3oclock its table football, then after that its fish the bottle for the kids.really good fun.

only thing there is no entertainment at night,but you have not far to walk outside the apartments,just under the little bridge there are some nice restaurants and bars,we found a nice one called the top spot this was were we went to watch wigan rugby on sky sports,they do lovely food and the staff are english,worth a try,if you want discos you only have to walk round the corner, its about 15 minutes into the center were you will find some lovely bars and restaraunts to match your tastes,all at reasonable prices,our favourite is classic bar it is only a small quiet bar behind harleys disco bar,no loud music just background and a pool table,get in early as it soon fills up,dont do food and only opens at night.a pint is only 1 euro;cheap cocktails,and spirits good atmosphere,and jose is very friendly.there are 2 good beaches our favourite is amadores,just a short walk along the prom.

back to the apartments there is security on at night so never any noise after a certain time.staff cant do enough for you,bar and restraunt excellent,overall 10 out of 10 for everything cant wait to go back in january and hopefully next july, by the way the weather  was 38-40 degrees everyday we loved it.then the chauffer came to collect us to take us back to the airport,to fly back to good old wigan, worth every penny.

we have just returned from a fantastic 2 wks at the marina suites the weather hot in 30s There are a large variety of places to eat out and bars to go to at night.The centre being 20 mins walk away. 

The hotel itself is very modern,the rooms spacious although I would have liked to see more wardobe space and drawers. the service is second to none daily change of towels and these are good bath size towels also they provide lrge beach towels for round the pool, one less thing to pack. they will change these daily if you desire.Everywhere is spotlessly clean and nothing is too much trouble. 

Our one niggle was that there was no entertainment at night and the daytime entertainment is repetetive. But all in all the holiday was ace. 

I would definately recommend here with no hesitation.

WE have just came home from the marina Suites in puerto rico after 1 week (May 2005). The marina suites are fabulous the are really big inside and they are spottless inside and out.  We went with my sisters and their husbands and we all thought they were fantastic. The maids clean up the apartments every day and give you clean towels, you even get beach towels for the pool so there is no need to take any of your own, the pool is brilliant it looks straight out to the sea and with the marina suites being right on the marina you see all the boats and excursions going past. Everyone at the marina suites is very freindly and polite the food is also nice the staff at the marina suites are always smartly dressed and polite and always willing to help with getting taxis ordered and late check out rooms, i would def recommened them had a fabulous time and the weather was great so if you like puerto rico then the marina suites are the place to stay thy are definatley worth the 4 star rating but should really be a 5 star in my opinion.

Puerto rico itself i felt was very run down alot of the pubs that you go into the toilets were disgusting at one point my sister asked one of the people who worked in one pub if they could get someone to clean the toilets.  But apart from this everything else was great especialy when you had really descent accomodation to stay in and when you see the view you get fro the marina suites you wont be disappointed.

Along with our friends who we had booked our holiday in Gran Canaria we were notified that we were being moved from the El Greco, our usual haunt in GC because of extensive refurbishment. We were placed in the Marina Suites across the harbour from the El Greco and as it is a brand new hotel apartments we were all happy to move - given the trucks and work going on at the El Greco, there was no other real choice.

The Marina Suites is top class. Apartments are huge, well equipped, with air conditioning, close away kitchen, shower, bath, TV (mostly Spanish and the odd English channel). The staff are friendly and and efficient - the whole place exhudes quality.

The only downsides are: If you are in the apartments overlooking the sea (at the side of the building) you get an excellent view of the comings and goings from the harbour, but there is some noise from the boat repair companies on the harbour during the day. lots of banging and running of engines. But if you are out and about it doesn't matter.

Now unless you have booked all inclusive or B&B, give the breakfast a miss. The toaster refused to toast the day we used the breakfast area, despite waiting for around ten minutes, and the buffet style service featured the usual stuff - scambled eggs, little sausages, lukewarm beans. Plus cheese's, fruit etc.

As we were booked into the apartment only a visit across the car parking area to the other side of the harbour and The Rovers Return in the alleyway. Virtually anything you want for breakfast and freshly cooked.

Most of the people in the Marina Suites had been booked for the El Greco, and for some reason there seemed to be a lot more children around late at night as well.

Puerto Rico is a great place, but since our last visit 2 years ago at about the same time there seemed to be fewer people around and some of the bar owners told us that business was slower than usual. This may account for some bars/cafes etc either closed or closed down during the day for longer periods than normal and more places battling for customers with cut price meals with more basic UK styled food than ever before.

Places to check out: Good entertainment at Flannagns Apple near the harbour. Begins at 10:00pm through to about 1:00pm. Lots of Country, Van Morrison, U2, Pogues and of course Irish toons.

Red Rose opposite Flannagans Apple. Great food, friendly and excellent specials, including fish, lobster etc - good choice of Red wines too!

Restaraunte Gran Canaria near the Spar. First time we had been here. The guys tempting you in offer a sherry (as do all the others in the same area), but try this place. Food is excellent with good selections. Plus good entertainment by a local musician who plays an array of guitars, mandolins, keyboard, sax and plays some fine local and Spanish traditional music. Which make a change from Euro disco.

In the commercial centre there is a nice little place (can't recall the name despite visiting it four times) opposite one of the "duty free" perfume places who do nice coffee and cakes, ice creams, beers etc and play Spanish and Cuban music in the background. Good place to relax for awhile.

Puerto Mogan on Friday is market day very busy but well worth a visit on the ferry. Some good places to eat and drink as well. We also visted Arguiniguin (can't spell it) on the ferry. Not much there. Give it a miss.

One thing to check out is the Spirit of The Sea trip to see Dolphis and Whales. Yep we saw plenty of Dolphins and some turtles. They claim there is an 80% chance on their trips. But watch the sea! The boat goes around 12- 15 miles out into the Atlantic. The day we went it was choppy out where the dolphins were hanging out and on the way back mucho sea-sickness notably from the kids and some ladies on board.

Anything more? Time share a pain notably around the Spar supermarket area as area the Looky Looky - African sunglasses and cheap junk peddlars. But they are everywhere on the Canaries.

All round a good place for a good holiday.

my husband and I stayed at the Marina Suites for a week this april. We arrived at approximately 3.30am... absolutely worn out and weary. Checking into the hotel went smoothly, we were absolutely delighted with the apartment, it was stunning. The room was spacious, light and airy, the view over the harbour was spectacular. The room was exceptionally clean, with daily maid service and towel change. The communal areas of the hotel were well kept, the pool area again was stunning. Sun loungers, parasols, towels and hot tubs.... sheer pampering.

The staff at the hotel wre always very polite and helpful, the whole set-up had an air of professionalism and class.

One downside, was that We both felt that the hotel entertainment could have been improved... in fact apart from eating at the hotel restaurant there was no evening entertainment provided. The resort itself was a little tacky... but pleasant enough in its own way i suppose.

There were some nice restaurats and bars, the local spar shop had plentyto offer and was only a 5-10 minute walk away rom the apartments.

Day Trip to Mogan was good, boat ride was particularly nice. We visited Mogan on a friday (market day)it was very busy,I think if I went again I would go on another day to appreciate the beauty of the place without the hustle and bustle. Mogan had a slight Italian feel.

We stayed in Puerto Rico for a week, the weather was gorgeous, we came home feeling very relaxed and would definately go back to The Marina Suites.I have to say,that although the holiday was superb in an 'all round kind of way'  if there was any one thing that made this holiday it would have to be the apartments..... just beautiful.

Well, what can we say? The Marina Suites and Puerto Rico are just fabulous! We are 15 and 16 year old girls who visited the resort with our parents. The Marina Suites is definitely the best accomadation in the whole of the island, and the best place we have ever stayed.

Everything about the apartments was great. The atmosphere, the staff and the entertainment was superb. Special mention to Edwardo who was the entertainment person round the pool. He was friendly, funny and made every one feel welcome as soon as they arrived. The staff round the pool bar and in reception did all they could to help you and make your stay as comfortable as possible.

The resort of Puerto Rico is lively, fun and attractive. For people our age there is plenty to do and see. All age groups would find something to do. The best restaurant was probably San Miguel. The food is beautiful and the waiters friendly. There are so many good bars I could be here all day. The beach at Puerto Rico is clean and although it can get busy there is plenty of space for everyone.

If you are considering a visit to Puerto Rico, the Marina Suites is the place to go. We will definitely be back next year!

Marina suites is just first class.
The rooms are fantastic and huge and kept spotlessly clean as is the hotel, pool areas and toilets.
We went self catering so did not try the food but the buffet breakfast looked great.
The entertainment at night is a bit refined but the town is only a short walk away with some great bars in the facinity without going into the commercial centre
Try flannigans near to the harbour a fantastic irish bar.
A great place to have breakfast and lunch near to the hotel is Yogi and Bennys an english run place with friendly service.

We preffered to got to the Europa Centre which is only 3 euros in a taxi, you must go to Picassos restaurant at the top a superb French place to eat and quite reasonable we went 4 times in one week. The food is excellent.
Reccommended bars:- Blarney stone,Barbacoa (if you want to be entertained) at the europa.

All in all yet another fantastic holiday at puerto rico. This is our 4th time and we are looking forward to going back in Oct.
If you have booked to go to the Marina Suites you will not be dissapointed there are no faults just pure luxury.Try the hot tubs theyre fantastic.

These apartments are fairly new and are first class. 

They offer spacious accommodation and are the best we have stayed in. The location is really good, right alongside the marina. They have either a sea and pool view or view of the marina and resort. They are cleaned every day.All public areas are maintained to a high standard the pool area is spotless. 

We didn't use the restaurants on site but were told by other guests that they were very good. We found several restaurants and bars nearby that we thought were excellent and very good value for money. If you leave the hotel and walk straight up the hill under the road tunnels you come to a Netto supermarket. Above, there are a number of restaurants we used. The El Cenador, the Steak House and the El Galteri. The portions in the Steak House even slowed my husband down which is no mean feat when it comes to meat! We also ate at the Red Rose which is located by the Marina. Don't let the big bouncy woman who tries to get you in there put you off. The food is very good. The best of all has to be Don Quixote.The food is to die for and the service so professional. This does mean you need to book.We drank at Flannagans Apple near Red Rose. Steve the guy who does the enertaining is great! Good personality and his rendition of "Is this the way to Amarillo?" had the whole place in tears (of laughter). The Wigwam bar across the road was good. You must use the loo there, it is quite an experience! The main shopping area is tacky but Okish. 

The Europa shopping area is not worth the walk however the views of the resort are. If you go to the Passerelli shopping area just before you get there on the same side are some steps. These will take you (if you keep going) to the top of the resort. Breathtaking views. Take the glass bottomed ferry to Puerto Mogan. It is a really pretty little place. 

We would definitely go back to the Marina Suites and found Peurto Rico a lot nicer than Los Cristianos on Tenerife.

This hotel is awaiting rating, I would imagine it would get a 4* at least. 

Very impressive with lots of white marble, cool interiors and a nautical theme. The pool is awesome with decking extending to the rocks overlooking the Atlantic.The hotel operates a scheme whereby you exchange tickets for freshly laundered pool towels, a very nice touch. The Hot tubs were often available, but I noticed little was done to enforce the " no unaccompanied children " rule. 

The Hotel is one of only two in this area, overlooking the harbour, and as such a little distance away from the hub of the town. This was not a disadvantage, as everything is within easy walking distance. The resort itself is basic, with little soul, but with many decent restaurants and bars, most evening meals for four people costing between 40-60 euros (including drinks). 

We opted to take 2 excursions.  The first, a day spent on "Afriyacht" Captained by the amiable Jose who sailed us off to sea to sample caves, dolphins (awesome!) as well as a light lunch and unlimited Sangria or Beer. We also opted for an evening at Garbo's which was a great nights' entertainment down the road at Playa del Ingles. this is where a Scandanavian cast not only entertained us with their interpretations of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Elton John repertoires (amongst others) but waited on tables supplying us with unlimeted beer and wine and a very nice three course meal. The weather was just changing for the better after a two week period of sandstorms.

We stayed half board at this new hotel/appartments, they were excellant in all facilities. The outlook from the rooms was fantastic either a harbour view or a view across the sea. The staff could not have been more helpful. The only down side was that like a lot of resorts that operate for twelve months of the year, the shopping centre/restuarant area half way up the resort was a concrete jungle that is in immeadiate need of attention.
Having said that the beach area was clean with some nice bars to eat in of a lunch time.

I'm 18 and boy does it get pretty boring during the day.

Weather was fab, it rained once and rained all day long, and all the restaurants and shops had leaking roofs.

The restaurants suck. I had my 18th birthday meal in a restaurant and a cockroach ran across the floor, LOVELY!! I'll never forget that 18th!!
 
The restaurants are all manky, cheap prices , and these men try to drag you in for a meal every single day. Some are quite pervy girls , so beware.
 
I advise everyone to eat at the Marina Suites, its absoulutely fab , from breakfast to dinner mmm. And it's not too expensive either.

Night life is brill!!fullof bars, there is 2 night clubs, JOKERS ROCKS!!! The DJ there is great , plays all ur requests except the cha cha slide!!
JACK DANIELS bar is the best , the DJ is a laugh, great entertainment and the bar guys are so so nice, especially Mohummad!!

Drinks very cheap and fags, free drinks, in most of bars, happy hours, two 4 the price of 1, free t-shirts, 1 euro pints(JACK DANIELS).

Saying that, as there is only two clubs, i think in summer the places would be packed and it would be horrible and no fun whatsoever.

The shops are boring all the same, and the assistants constantly follow you trying to get you to buy stuff and barter with you.

These African men go around trying to sell watches and sun glasses , that are so fake, dont buy them. But i thought they were nice to talk to, but you have to be careful with them.
