My/Our Holiday Opinion:

First time at Gloria Palace and hopefully not the last.  The hotel is wonderful, very big, very clean and I can highly recommend it to anyone thinking of going.  As many guests before have reported, the rooms are spacious with air con, fridge, large balcony, large bathroom, TVs have some SKY chanels e.g. Sky News and MTV but we found that we didn't really need TV during our two week stay.  We were A/I but more on that later.

The dining room is very large and relatively speaking you shouldn't have any problems in getting a table.  The food is very good with salads, carvery, pizzas and each night hosts a different theme; we enjoyed the Cuban and the Mexican nights, something different.

There are two pools; one is located beside the snack bar.  Tucked away at the end  of this pool is a nudist bathing area which is very discreet, in fact, I don't think my kids even knew it was there.  The other pool is located on a lower level and has a pool bar (no food).   Both pools are fantastic with great views over the sea along with the occasional parasailer and the constant buzzing of small planes advertising the local bars.  Both pools have plenty of sunbeds and sunshades so it's true that you don't need to reserve a bed, unless you want right next to the poolside.  The kids club is located on this level too and my 7 year old had a great time.  Located next to this is an area where archery and shooting takes place daily.  Next door to that is an internet room with books and magazines to enjoy.

The entertainment is a little dull and kicks off EVERY night with the kids disco which consists of the same song/dance routine but it was for the kids and THEY did enjoy it.  This is then followed up by what my husband nicknamed The Chuckle Brothers, on their keyboards.  I'll leave YOU to decide on that one!!?  The show normally starts around 10.30 and during our 14 nights we saw 3 snakes shows(!), 2 bird shows(!), 2 acrobat shows(1), and 2 transvestite shows.

Being A/I, each time a round of drinks or snacks is ordered, you are required to show your key card holder and sign for it which is a bit of a pain to begin with but you get used to it.  Generally speaking we noticed that A/I guests take a little longer to be served but by the second week we got used to this.  The staff work hard and long hours, so it's pays to show your appreciation.

The tour round the spa is worth the 15 mins with a 2 for 1 voucher at the end which entitles a couple to a two hour session in the jet pools (costing 18 Euros).  I recommend this and I wish I had done it earlier in the holiday.

So that's it folks.  We highly recommend The Gloria Palace as a whole and hopefully one day soon, we get back to enjoy another cocktail and a night with the Chuckle Brothers!!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Have just got back and can honestly say that if you are looking for a good hotel - look no further!  The hotel is built into the hillside overlooking the sea nad has breathtaking views!  I had worries because I don't like heights - but had no problems - it doesn't seem that high when you are in it. The rooms are soacious, and very clean - the bathrooms are large and well eqiupped with plenty of hot water at all times!  The balconies are large and have wonderful views.  The air conditioning works well, but I slept with the doors wide open and the curtains closed, I was not bitten once the whole time - and it was nice not to be molested by mozzies!  The common parts were clean and spacious and the lifts were no problem at all - you just have to get used to where you are going!

The food is good - plently of it, as varied as Spanish hotels get - with country themed dishes as an alternative each night.  I am veggie and certainly did not starve!  My 7 yr old son was happy too - there is a childrens section each night from which they can choose food more familiair to them as well if wanted!  If you need a table - just flipping well ask for one!  There were 17 of us and the waiters always obliged by clearing tables and putting us together when possible.  These waiters work horrendously long hours and are not mind readers!  If you need something - ask them!  Their English is on the whole pretty good - much better than my Spanish!!!!

We always go fully inclusive - and it is well worth it!  You have to give your room number to order drinks and food at the snack bar - but you soon get used to it.   You will see the same waiters working all over the hotel - so talk to them - make friends - and most of all Tip them!!!  Whats a few Euros here and there? - they worked hard for us as there was a lot of us - so show your appreciation and you will find it is reciprocated!

Look out for a guy called Roberto Carlos! - he must ve the friendliest waiter about - he really came through for us and is very friendly!  Look out for a guy who calles you "boss" and says "Luvly Jubbly" - that'll be him - it's well worth making his aquaintence - it will make you stay a whole lot smoother!

My son enjoyed the kinds club - they were very friendly and he is still wearing his t-shirt!

The pools were great - warm once you got in and we often swum until 7 or later at night - the views are lovely and it is still so warm at that time.  Shame about some people saving sunbeds - but thre are so many to go around it's not worth fretting about!

The entertainment was outstanding for being sooooo bad - but hey! - that seems par for the course in Europe!  Just chill out with a drink sitting by the sea - far nicer!

And last but not least - do not leave the spa till the last day as we did!  It was lovely - again with stunning views!  The treatments could become very addictive!  I thought it was well priced - pus you are on holiday - treat yourself!  BUT go there on day one to have a look at what's on offer!

Pourto Rico? - horrible in the town centre - avoid at all costs! - BUt the beach and harbour is nice!  We went on the submarine boat which was good - thousands of fishes!  It's an easy five minute walk!

Amadores beach is nice - quieter that Pourto Rico and nicer all round!  Lots of cafes and bars and seaside gift shops!  A 10 minute walk at the most!

Taxis are easy and cheap - and safe!  They are regulated and insist on seatbelts.

A trip to Mogan is a must - we went by Taxi and came back by boat!

Watch out for leaflets in your welcome pack as a lot of places have a free bus from the hotel on certain days - look out for these - you could even "miss" the bus home and see more of the resort and then get taxis/buses/boats home!

If you are booked in this hotel - have no worries - of course there will be niggles - we Brits are good at that!  - alternatively - if you are still worried - contact me and I will go in you place!  :)

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

The Gloria Palace Amadores, where do I start, LOL!!!

This hotel was recommended by my mum and I have to say I was not dissapointed!!
The check in for our party of 5 was a little slow but only because we had a new receptionist who had just started that day (The fizzy wine kept me company tho whilst our check in was dealt with, lol)!!! We eventually got to our rooms 2 floors above reception (we had 2) and I have to say they were really spacious. The balconies were all really discreet which was great because u couldnt see anybody elses + were overlooking the pool and sea. I would recommend e-mailing the hotel direct and asking for this particular view beforehand as it is stunning! The rooms were really well looked after with towels changed daily.

After reading previous reviews I was rather scared of havin anything to eat but all I can say is "nonsense" The food was plentiful and really good. There was lots of people jostling for their grub but then again what do you expect from a large hotel!
We were there half board and we frequently swapped lunch for dinner (get the vouchers at reception) Another tip would be to tell the waiting staff u are paying cash when having snacks, drinks etc! I would rather pay as I go than have it on my bill at the end (we made this mistake on the first day) I actually thought the bar prices were similar if not slightly cheaper than home (especially when u drink like us Scots, lol)
The swimming pools were nice and cool with a great view over the edge of the cliff through a perspex screen, if u like heights of course. We were lucky enough to have brilliant weather for the whole week and sunloungers were plentiful and comfy to assist us with our sun worshipping. There was poolside activities too and there seemed to be loads to do for the kids.
The in-hotel entertainment, I thought was ok but the view can be restricted as it is a small stage and there is always loads of waiters buzzing around so try and get near the front!!

The lifts can be quite confusing as there are 4 seperate blocks. My advice would be is to take a little walk round the hotel after u unpack and get to know the lifts. I could imagine it being a bit of a nightmare at peak times sharing the lifts so plan your journey in plenty of time! The lift down to the promenade walkway was spectacular but if you are going out later at night be aware that the walkway entrance to the hotel (through the snack bar) will be closed at 11.30pm. My mother in law found this out and they had to take the long way round to the reception (over the main road)

My fiancee was celebrating her 30th birthday so we arranged a trip to the Thalasso Health Centre for a massage. She really liked it saying it was relaxing and worth a try! We also got a complimentary bottle of fizzy wine which was also a nice thought from the hotel.

We ventured into both Puerto Rico (turn left on the walkway 5 min walk) and Amadores (turn right, 10-15 minute walk) There is a set of stairs halfway along which takes u down a spiral staircase to the rocks so any giving of romantic gifts can be done there, lol!!! I would say Amadores is much nicer with no touts and a lovely beach. We thought Puerto Rico was very tacky further in so we stuck to the marina. We tried 1 restaurant in each bay. The Beach Club in Puerto Rico was really nice (first restaurant u come to on the walkway). The Cafe Del Mar in Amadores was also really nice and the people there were really friendly! The closest shopping would probably be the SPAR in Puerto Rico which is a wee bit of a walk if you want little cheap amenities.

Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to couples and groups of all ages and families. If you like to stay by a hotel with lovely views and with access to nice little beaches in Puerto Rico and Amadores then this is the place for you.
ENJOY URE STAY!!! XXX

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

This hotel is big, but well worthy of its 4 stars. The rooms are extremely spacious (4 of us in ours), immaculately clean, great housekeeping, pretty faultless really. We didn't experience the poor customer service mentioned on this site by many but found the staff to be helpful and really polite which was pretty amazing as we probably had the two loudest kids in the hotel.

We had a great room overlooking the pool and the sea. There are two pools and we were in the area where the kids club and playground was which was ideal. The kids club is open from 10am - 11pm (with a mini disco 8.30-9.45pm) and the animation team will even take your kids for an early dinner at 7pm if you wish (all free of charge). The animation team organise the activities but unlike UK run kids clubs your kids aren't signed in and out. The animation team are more there in a supervisory role so you have to be confident that your kids know where to find you and be relaxed enough that they can come and go as they please. Whilst ours are only 4 and 5 we felt extremely safe in the environment and once our girls knew our base by the pool they dipped in and out of the kids club all day from 10am - 5pm, heaven! There are organised activities all day but in addition they can go in and colour, play with the toys, watch dvds, borrow pool toys, make costumes etc as and when they please. There were probably 5 supervisors in the club all day, plenty of adult supervision. Our girls loved the freedom of it and for older kids it's even better as the organised activities are geared up more to the 8+ age group. There is also a baby pool and a huge climbing/play area with a climbing wall.

If I have to be critical of anything (and it's nothing more than we expected) it's that the restaurant gets really busy. We always found the food to be plentiful and the quality was as good as most Med 4* hotels. Because of the size if the hotel the meal times do get a bit of a bun fight. Breakfast is lovely until about 9am, from then on it's really busy and not very enjoyable. Dinner is always busy but just about bearable. However, given the size of the hotel they cope admirably with it. I challenge UK hotels to run such an efficient service.

We didn't watch any of the entertainment as we dipped out after the mini-disco at 9.15pm each evening. The kids loved the mini disco and the animation team were always enthusiastic. You can buy the mini disco CD for 10 Euros - how I've enjoyed listening to that since we got home!

All in all we had a great relaxing holiday at this hotel. It's our 2nd visit to Gran Canaria. We don't go because we love the resort, we go for some winter sun in nice surroundings and the Gloria Palace was definitely that. Don't expect too much from Puerto Rico, it's the usual Eurotrash resort but if you like a warm climate in Febuary then head off here and leave the cold of the UK winter behind you.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We have just returned from a fabulous week at the Gloria Palace.  I cannot praise this hotel enough.

We had a large room, even with a bed settee folded out for our daughter we didn't feel cramped.  The room had a great sea view and was kept spotless by the staff, who also left us chocolates on quite a few days.  The weather was fantastic especially coming from England where there had been snow 2 days earlier!  The Gloria Palace is a large hotel and the restaurant can get busy but even at peak times the restaurant manager always found us a table and the waiters very quickly remade the table with fresh tablecloths etc. The waiters work really hard but we found that they were always pleasant and keen to help.  The food is excellent with a huge choice. We were there on valentine's day and received a rose and glass of champagne on the way into the restaurant  and the chefs had produced a huge heart shaped cake topped with fresh strawberries, it was so impressive that it was a shame to eat it. However, if you want quiet, intimate dining this wouldn't be the hotel for you.  It is a family hotel and they try very hard to keep all ages happy and this is reflected in the entertainment.

On minor fault is the main entertainment doesn't start until 10.30 p.m. which we did feel was a little too late and would have been better at least half an hour earlier. Location wise the hotel is between Puerto Rico and Playa Amadores and as we went half board we wandered out for lunch to one of these resorts daily. To get to either resort there is a glass lift which goes down to the promenade.  Turn left and you can walk to Puerto Rico in 5 minutes, turn right and you can walk to Playa Amadores in under 10 minutes.  We preferred Playa Amadores to Puerto Rico but it's worth having a walk to both of them.  We visited Puerto Mogan for the market which is held every Friday.  The bus from the centre of P.Rico costs 5euro return, with the travel company this was 18 euros each.

We had a great time at the Gloria Palace and are already planning to return next year - what more can I say!

Just back from a week at the Gloria Palace and thumbs up all round. Champange on arrival and luggage carried to our room. Staff friendly & nothing was a bother. The meals were as good as it gets. Plenty of choice and probally the best I've had in many years. Rooms cleaned and towels changed everyday. Nice beaches & only a short walk away. Nearby bars & restrurants a bit tacky but it's the sun we pay for. Recommend the Gloria Palace no faults.

I will try and give a view that is helpful and not focus too much on complaints. Everyone has them, some more then others. Human nature i guess!

Hotel: Gloria Palace. Fantastic Hotel with large rooms and a beautiful sea view. I reckon 80/90% of people will have a great view. However some will be blocked by Snackbar etc. Luck of the draw..
Food: We stayed half-board,food was plentiful, range good enough, but if you like deserts, I'am afraid they started to tire on you over the week. They never changed..
Staff: We found them to be pleasent & Helpful. Very Happy with service levels..
Entertainment: Have read complaints but we found that most nights the live entertainment was a good standard. Running from 8.30-Midnight, followed by a disco until 2.30..
Weather: Should be your typical Canary Islands Sunshine. We had most days around 27c in Jan but also had a couple of showers.
Peurto Rico: Typical Spanish with typical shops & restaurants. If your not a beach/pool person, I feel that a week would be long enough.. A nice trip by boat to Mogan is worth while, Mogan  is modern but built in a colonial style. Very nice..

We had a lovely time, doubt we would go back. But only because we like to move around..

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

The Gloria Palace is deserving of its 4 stars - it really is a lovely hotel. It is only really let down by one thing and that is the food - the choice is reasonable but the quality is truly awful. We were half board and took up the option of swapping dinner for lunch but still went out and bought lunch a couple of times during our weeks stay. The restaurant staff are largely unfriendly, and on that subject, the reception staff are also in desperate need of some customer service training - we didn't even get a goodbye when we checked out. None of that, however, spoilt our holiday. Our room was great, the public areas are very impressive and very comfortable - there was always somewhere to sit and relax, the pools and sun beds are great. Everyone is catered for, whether you want to constantly be doing something, or just want to relax all day. We only saw small bits of the evening entertainment. The entertainers brought in seemed to be of a high standard but were not on for long. The hotel's own entertainers were only average.

The hotel is in a fantastic location if you like a view - perched on top of the cliffs - it's quite stunning. For shops, bars and restaurants, however, you need to get in a taxi and go to one of the commercial centres, as there is nothing nearby. It looks like the only hotel with access directly down to the promenade via 2 lifts - a great feature. A short walk to the left brings you to the harbour, which is very picturesque, and also Puerto Rico beach although we didn't go on it - we didn't fancy it as it is very enclosed and open to the harbour with all the boats going in and out. There is a very small selection of restaurants there for the evening. There seemed to be more restaurants bordering the beach but they looked very shabby and rundown and we didn't try them. A longer walk of approximately 15 minutes to the right brings you to Amadores beach, which is much nicer. There is a selection of bars and restaurants here which only seem to be open during the day. The drawback of this walk is that the promenade has no shade and in the heat (about 30 degrees every day), it seems a very long way. About half way to the beach, there is a spiral staircase that takes you down to the rocks - do go down, it's lovely just sitting there watching the waves.
There are 2 commercial centres - we walked to the Europa having been told it was 500 metres away up a hill. Yes . . if you're part mountain goat. We took a taxi back down and thereafter, only took taxis. They are cheap enough (most journeys were only about  2-3 euros), they work on meters so you don't have to negotiate a price, and they're everywhere.  The other centre is the bigger of the 2 and we ate there a couple of times in the evening. We were disappointed with both - you wouldn't describe them as classy places.

We did the Surf and Turf trip and thought it was good value although we could probably have got it cheaper by going down to the harbour and booking direct. The morning was spent at sea looking for dolphins - and we saw loads of them - it was a great experience to see them in the wild - they came right up to the boat and seemed to enjoy the attention. The afternoon was spent on a jeep safari - what a ride! Not for those who don't like heights - we were taken high into the mountains.

I don't think we will go back to the Gloria Palace but this is purely because the resort of Puerto Rico just hasn't got what it takes as far as we are concerned.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

This was our second stay at Gloria's so it must have something, much has been written about the attitude of staff etc. well we all have to speak as we find and we found them all a delight and very hard working especially the cleaning which leads to a spotless complex, the rooms are amongst the largest we've had anywhere, equipped with air con, TV with Sky sport one (though not all rooms had this,)an empty mini fridge (very handy)and a shower that will nearly take yer eye out lol. Most rooms afford great views of the Atlantic, I say most because we asked to move as we got allocated a room on the same level as the pool bar on arrival, our move insidently was dealt with in a prompt and professional manner.

The food is very good and should serve even the most fussy of eaters, most evenings have a theme night Canarian Mexican French and so on so there's always something different but maintaining the basic meat and two veg along side. One word of warning, well not a warning as such just be aware that those of us on half board can run up a hefty bar bill if we choose to have a drink with our dinner, we chose not to this year and neither did we drink in the hotel because things there are a bit OTT with the prices,

Those who know this resort would understand that its not for those with walking difficulties that said there are plenty of lifts and a rather pleasant glass one with panoramic views of the Atlantic taking you down to the promenade, although we walked most nights up to the Europa centre which causes a bit of a sweat there is a very good and affordable taxi service to hand.

So all in all taking into account the glorious (no pun intented) weather we had a great time doing nothing apart from eating drinking and err sleeping, so much so we've already booked to return next year, but this time B&B, only because we tended to eat too much..lol

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We got to the airport at 4:30 in the mornin. We got our suitcases and went to get the bus, the bus trip took us 40 mins to get to the first hotel and we were the third hotel so it took us about 50 mins to get to our hotel. When we arrived at the hotel we checked in and found out our rooms were on the eighth floor. But that was down at the bottom.

The rooms were very nice and big, they got cleaned out every day by maid,Vanessa.
The restraunts were very nice but they were awful busy. The food was nice too but it was quite posh, there was a differnt theme country every night. The Italian night was the best.
There was two pools, one down from the reception, that's where all the activities went on and there was one up from the reception that was better to sunbath in because there was not as much small kids.
On the wednesday there was a mini olypics and it was Scottish against Spanish. And at night before the show at 10:30 they had a challenge, the Scots had to dress up as pirates and make a song and a dance and the Spanish had to dress up as nuns and make a song and a dance.

It was only a 5 minitue walk into peurto rico harbour after you got the glass lift onto the promenade. There was shops, restaurants and bars along there but there was about 10 camera shops in a row and the spanish guys came out and tried to get you to buy cameras but the rep told us just to walk away from them.
At the harbour you can book boat trips. The BIG RED speed boat is amazin.
The commercial centre is good because there is alot of shops bars and clubs but it was a bit tacky.
The europa centre was a bit boring because there wasn't alot of shops or bars.
Maspalomas is very good for shopping because there is alot of good designer shops but it is very expensive.
The beach at Amadores is a lovely man made beach, only a 10 minute walk from the hotel.
The water park at Peurto Rico is quite rubbish because it is sooo small, but the one at Maspalomas is really good because it is big and there is alot of big slides and there is a bit for the wee kiddies.

I would recommend this holiday for young couples, famillies with chikdren and old foggies.

The Gloria Place has mixed reviews on this website. We have visited Puerto Rico many times and this hotel is one of the best we have stayed in. The hotel is uniquely positioned between the 2 main beaches and is within easy walking distance of Puerto Rico. There are fantastic sea views from the hotel. Rooms are absolutely huge and equiped with all mod cons, even a very useful fridge. The food was varied and of a high standard, the restaurant itself very spacious with no problems finding a table. The pool areas had plenty of sunbeds and you never had to reserve sun beds.
We stayed half board and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We found this hotel to be of a great standard. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The floor numbers in the lifts are very confusing, each area of the hotel has its own lifts, and the floor numbers don't correspond between areas.  But on holiday, you're not in a rush so it didn't bother us much. The panoramic lifts to the seaside walkway are great and keep everyone safe and away from roads.

Believe the other reviewers when they say the rooms are enormous.  The balconies are a good size and all face the sea for some wonderful sunsets. Rooms are cleaned daily but we would have preferred more bedsheet changes. We had a maintenance problem so filled out the door hanger form and it was fixed before we got back on the same day.  Very good service.

Breakfasts were good, but I'd have preferred larger plates! My partner is a fussy eater but found something to eat every evening at the buffet.  I particularly enjoyed the country themed meals, especially Mexican night.

We travelled to celebrate a birthday and spent the afternoon in the spa, taking advantage of one of their winter packages.  It was a lovely experience and if you want to completely wind down at the start of your holiday, this would be ideal (but don't choose the "bubble bath" option if you've just been in the main therapy pool for 2 hours, it's much of the same). Don't plan much afterwards though as we were completely zonked out and it was all we could do to make it back to the sunbeds and lie down.

We tried parascending off the back of a speed boat which was exhilarating, very gentle and smooth. We also went on the Big Red, which is a speed boat powered by 2 V8 engines. It was amazing! If you go just wear beach wear as you get soaked.

The 2 pool areas are both thoroughly cleaned daily and there is a well screened nudist area by the upper pool, which was a bonus for us as it didn't state this on the hotel website. The activities and childrens play areas are all by the lower pool.

Amadores - only a small bay with a few hotels at the moment, but it looks like it's being really well planned and in a couple of years will be lovely. Good for a day on the beach (clean but grainy).

Puerto Rico - sorry but this resort was horrible.  The centre was a shopping centre, a bit like an arndale, full of nettos, tacky shops, bars and restaurants. There wasn't a single good quality souvenir/local crafts shop.

Overall we had a lovely winter break, great hotel, fantastic weather and good company. However, we wouldn't go back to Puerto Rico again.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We were transfered to this hotel a week before we flew out, how lucky were we beautiful hotel, Room cleaned everyday, two very large pools, and kids pool beside this kids play area and kids club which was very nice. Hotel Buffet was lovely different every evening and alot of choice for breakfast, you can have a roman baths sauna's etc for a price.

The only downfall was the evening entertainment in one word terrible, so we walked down the promanade every night and found a nice little bar near the harbour called harbour lights where happy hour was from 7 - midnight 3 euros for 2 pints of beer, 4 euros for 2 local spirits we were out there for new years eve so was nice to watch the fireworks from there going of all around puerto rico. Recommend Tuesday to Arguiniguin for market day, and fridays to Puerto Morgan for market day there is also a very nice little beach they call this place little venice for pretty.

The location of the hotel is excellent, looking out to sea, and it is very clean and well equipped. The reception staff could be a wee bit surly, but the dining room staff were fine.I wouldn't do the half board option again, as the meals were edible, but not always warm,so bed and breakfast would be my choice,as the restaurants in the Commercial Centre are so cheap.Amadores beach is a short walk away, Puerto Rico only a little further.Taxis are very cheap (2.80 to commercial centre),and there is usually one waiting outside the hotel.

If you are looking for a relaxing break,I would recommend this hotel.

This hotel is amazing, built into the hillside with 2 pools overlooking the sea.

We spent a week half board at Gloria Palace 12/11-19/11 2005.

This is what we thought :-
Hotel reception,
Very nice (& big), plenty of staff although they all try to do 3 jobs at once so you sometimes had to wait a while.

Pool area
Excellent, lots of sunbeds (and they were comfy)- lovely feel to it, very nice.

Main Bar
Nicely laid out takes a while to get served even if sat up at the bar.

Entertainment
Only saw a bit and glad we went out each night - glad we did not stay all inclusive as we would have been stuck with it.

Hotel rooms
Fantastic, we had a sea view, modern and very big, very clean (maid came everyday) -shower nearly blew you away, very powerful but very good! also had separate toilet.

Hotel facilities
Very good, Spa centre is wonderful - I had a 90 min facial which was fab and my husband did the get in shape water thing which he said was very good.

Restaurant
Slightly canteen like but plenty of choice of food, only problem is identifying what some of the dishes are as they are not labelled very well.

Location
Good, in the middle of the hill, go up (a steep hill) to the Europa Centre and go down to Puerto Rico - glass lift is a big plus in this hotel!

Hotel overall
Staff need to cheer up a bit but I think this may be down to them not getting tips as most people staying in this hotel will be either half board or all inclusive, so there is no bill to pay therefore no tip.

Fair amount of older people stayed in this hotel while we were there - I think we were the youngest!

Would recommend this hotel to anyone, we may try Tenerife next time as we like to go to lots of different places.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We made vour second visit to this hotel at the end of October 2005. The hotel remains impressive upon arrival with the rooms large and clean. The bathroom is large with a good shower and two sinks with separate toilet. All rooms face the sea and because the hotel is high on the cliff you are not overlooked.

The bar service in the Bar Salon seems a lot quicker than last year but it was still the same resident group. She is a good singer but her partner still plays the keyboards out of tune. One problem since last year is that the restaurant table clearing is too slow and you have to stand over a waiter to set the table, dont be fobbed off. The variety of food was not as good but they do fry breakfast and some dinner courses in front of you.

The staff are generally friendly although not all speak good english. The two swimming pools have plenty of sunbeds, one for activities and one quiet. The beach at Amadores which is 10 mins walk away is brilliant. Sandy with lots of sunbeds etc. There is a boom around the bay so your kids wont float away although the water gets deep quickly. There is a good selection of bars, shops and restaurants around the edge of the beach to suit all tastes. If you want to go to Puerto Rico this gives good value for money.

This hotel is in a lovely location - built into the cliff with amazing sea views if you are on a high floor.  Rooms are spacious and very clean and bathrooms good.

BUT meal times are awful - the hotel was full whilst we were there and the restaurant turned into a conveyor belt canteen.  Food was ok - not great and not awful.  Entertainment is poor and can be noisy.

Taxis are very cheap if you want to venture anywhere - though the Europa Centre and Commercial Centre are both quite tacky but have a couple of reasonable restaurants.

And a word of warning - the beds are rock hard and we both ended up with sore backs!!

All in all a pleasant holiday but do not think we would go back

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Stayed in the Gloria Palace for 2 weeks Half Board. Rooms were spacious , clean, with good bathroom/toilet facilities. The view over the pool/sea was fantastic.

Entertainment was half professional and half amateur , so approx 35% overall was actually worth watching.

Lounge service was a bit slow but we did'nt die of thirst. I was impressed with the variety of meals - something different each day, which invariably let to "a bit of everything" for each meal.

The pool areas and Kids miniclub were excellent and the rooftop pools and seaviews were spectacular. If you are on half/full board , the kids are taken away for their buffet approx 7PM and then are entertained by the animators until 9PM , which was plenty of time for the old timers to have their meal in peace.

There is a glass lift which brings you down the side of the building with great views and then another lift brings you down another level which deposits you at a cafe/bar at the prominade , where you can walk in either direction (5mins) to Amadores or Puerto Rico.

The animators and "small entertainment" during the day were excellent and provided the necessary breaks in the day . Watch out for the Olympics Sports Day - definately one to join in on, even if it kills you.

Big thanks to Nico, Bianka, Manuella, Kristin and all the Animators who made the hoilday stress free and gave us so many fond memories.

Overall I would rate this accomodation and location very highly as a great base for relaxation which is within easy reach of the more lively spots if desired.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We have stayed in this area of Puerto Rico 8 times over the years, and after reading mixes reviews about this Hotel, we were a bit wary.  If anybody is thinking about staying here, we can put your minds at rest.  This Hotel is superb, the rooms are massive and spotlessly clean, as are the main areas of the Hotel.  There are two pools with an abundance of sunbeds - no need to put your towels on at the crack of dawn ! The food in the restaurant is excellent and caters for most nationalities and is freshly cooked in the restaurant area, from steak, chicken, duck, lamb, pork, fish, paella, pizza, stew with fresh veg or salad the list is endless. We found the staff very friendly and helpful, although service was a bit slow at times at the bars, but that is to be expected at busy times!

Entertainment was not too bad, although was tailored a bit towards the spanish clientel. On or last night though, there was a tribute band on that were english singing soul and disco music from the seventies.  If you get sick of eating in the Hotel we would highly recommend a restaurant in the Europa Centre called El Brasero, which is run by a Spanish lad called Rach and his English wife Lisa, the food is excellent! Taxis are cheap and plenty of them if you want to venture to the Commercial centre or Harbour, where the Hawaii bar is great.

All in all, if you want to stay in the area of Puerto Rico, try this Hotel, we can highly recommend it!

We have just returned from a wonderful week at his wonderful Hotel. Set into the cliff between Puerto Rico and Amadores. It really offers all you need . Imaculate, rooms cleaned daily. Lovely Bathroom, Two roof top pools both salt water. We didn't have a problem with the service in either the Hotel or in nearby resorts. Entertainment in the hotel was a Bit Holiday camp at times, there is even a Parrot show!!! The Thalasaperiata Centre Is worth a go at 19e less 10% jets of salt water go everywhere!!

The resorts ; Peurto rico very built up But hey lets face it Grancanaria isn't the most beautiful of places ! Lots of restaurants offering Cottage Pie, Full English, Irish Stew ,Pasties. There were a lot of touts trying to get you to eat but they were very polite when you declined.

We ate in the public swimming pool restauraunt at night (behind the spar) no I'm not kidding! Very good service ,quality and price . Actually had something spanish to eat.. Ate in the Hotel Twice massive choice all you can eat for 19e each But unfortuantly when it got busy it was a bit like BHS . If you want a luxery Hotel a Fantastic view from you balcony almost guaranteed sunshine This is the place for you .

Would I go back? Yes but one week is enough as there isn't that much to do
Hope this helps

We've just arrived back from this hotel, after reading reviews I was a bit dubious about this hotel and the service it offered.  We can honestly say the service was very good.

On arrival at 3.30am, we were checked in and in our rooms within 10 minutes (there was about 12 groups to be check in)and the reception staff were quite helful at all times.  Regarding breakfast we ate about 9am every morning and found no problem getting a clean table and if none were available, we only every waited 2/3 minutes for staff to clean off a table for us.  The same would be said for dinner we ate around 8/8.30pm and again found no problem. The staff were always quite courtesy to us.  And we did not feel that because we were not Spanish they treated us different.  The food was excellent and quite an extensive choice.

Regarding bar service before and after the show it was quite quick, but during the show it was sometimes a little bit slow.  We figured out on second night that you ordered drinks from certain bar staff, then other staff delivered the drinks and once we figured out which was which it was easy to get their attention to order drinks.  The accommation was excellent, the rooms were very spacious and the balcony was also very big.  Rooms were cleaned every day. We were just away from where night time enterainment was and once balcony doors were shut you could here no noise.  Down by the pool there was loads of sun beds so again no early rising to put towel on sunbed.

This was the first time we stayed in Hotel on half board and will be doing it again if this hotel is anything to go by.

A spectacular hotel. The rooms were huge, and the bathrooms magnificent. Our balcony was private and shaded, which was needed in July.
The thassalotherapy centre was good fun, and my daughter and I had loads of pampering treatments, at much better prices than in the uk.

The entertainment at night was unusual to say the least, at times, to appeal to all nationalities(not sure whether a lady of a 'certain age' should be singing 'like a v1rgin', or Britney speares numbers), but was enjoyable, becuase or inspite of, its quirks.

The food was good, howver vegetarians beware.they do insist on decorating most veg dishes with meat.....Im not a strict veggie, so it didnt matter too much, but my daughter found it off putting. The waiters were generally helpful, if a little slow when getting things.

The animations team were amazing, and very approachable. My one fault really was the lack of non supervised activities in the evening for teens. The pool tables, games room and internet cafe shut at 7.00pm, and my two would have enjoyed using any of these facilities at night, to get some time away from parents.
We hated the commercial centres of peurto Rico, and loved both Amadores and Mogan. Thankfully Taxis were cheap.
The nicest place to eat in the evening was the barca restuarant on Amadores beach....just dont expect to get away early!Brilliant food, kind, chatty waiters, who were happy to make up a favourite dish if it wasnt on the menu, and give lots of local knowledge.

Iwould certainly go to this hotel again, if it could be moved a little bit further down the coast!!!!!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

I am just back from Puerto Rico and i am planning when to go back.  i had a fabulous time.  i thought that the gloria palace what a beutiful hotel it was well situated and spotless as the maids visited your room every day.

the only thing that i didn't like was the food i thought that it really let the hotel down infact i think that i only ate there in total 5 night out of our 14 night holiday, i felt that the hotel didn't really cater for british tourists as much as it could have.  there a plenty of places to eat out in puerto rico but if you want somewhere that serves excellent british food and is welcoming a friendly you should go to flicks in the europa centre this is fantastic and great value for money three main meals with six drinks only cost about 24 euros and the food was excellent, we became regulars.

if you are a family staying in puerto rico you should definetly go to the europa centre which is more family focused all of the bars are family friendly,  whereas the commercial centre is wild and is not for children as it is full of nightclubs and pub touts.  if you want to stay up all night partying then the commercial centre is excellent and really safe as it is constantly patroled by police the best bar is Piccadillys as you will have such a good laugh and the staff make your holiday they are all so friendlt bobbi the bar maid is really sweet an angel.

Once you have been to Puerto Rico and seen how friendly the people are and how welcome you are made to feel this will become your main holiday destination, i cant wait to go back and see everyone again.  this really is a holiday for everyone young and old alike!!!!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

I had read a few reviews of Hotel Gloria Palace before I went there myself on the 2nd of July, and there was a mixed reaction. I, however, had only one reaction - this hotel is superb!

The reception staff were extremely helpful and although at times they didn't speak full English, they always made sure they found someone who did in order to help. Checking in was very simple and straight forward despite it being four in the morning and checking out (and also getting a late check out) was just as simple. I think the only downside, which was no fault of the staff, was that there was rarely enough cash on the premises for us to change up our Travellers cheques. The rooms were brilliant. Lovely and cool, very nicely decorated, a wonderful size. The maid service was spot on and the bathroom was lovely and clean and spacious.

The hotel itself can be quite confusing because of all the different levels (due to the vast size of the place!) and by the time we got used to it, it was time to fly home! Only spent one day at one of the two outdoor pools and it was very nice. Always plenty of beds, no need for towel reserving!
The entertainment was good. Better than most hotels in Europe I have been to. The children's entertainment seemed to be very good as well. Service at the bar was always slow, so it was quicker to just find a table and let the very friendly waiters come to you!

Peurto Rico beach wasn't so impressive! The sun beds are so close together, not nice conditions when all you want to do is relax in peace! The sand was on fire! Very uncomfortable to walk on, so only went there once!
Amadores beach is the better beach to venture to. It is a bit further to walk, but it is worth it! To help anyone, when you exit Gloria Palace Hotel (after the wonderful lift journeys down to the bottom!) you turn left for Peurto Rico and right for Amadores.

We recommend getting a taxi from the hotel to the main shopping centre in Peurto Rico. It only costs a max on average of 2 Euros 70 and it's worth it. There are more than enough restaurants and pubs for all tastes and requirements and there are plenty of perfume shops to stock up on those bargain duty frees.

One tip - do not rudely ignore the staff or tell them you don't need help in these perfume shops, especially if you are after some bargains. Although the touts for restaurants and pubs are a pain the staff in these shops are not. Once you have made a friend the discounts are amazing! We spent 160 Euros on perfumes that would have cost well over 250 Euros and even more than that if we would have waited till the Airport, so it's well worth giving into the 'can I help you' speach!

All in all, we thouroughly enjoyed our stay here, and I will definately be coming back.

We found the location of the hotel ideal for access to both Puerto Rico, and Amadores. Approx. 10 minutes walk in either direction from seafront promenade.
Amadores beach was our preferred beach as it was quieter than Puerto Ricos, and is made from cruched shell, so doesn't stick to you like sand!  There is also a wide range of eating houses, and shops along the seafront.

The staff in the hotel were very polite & helpful at all times of the day & night.

We were especially impressed by the service given by the cleaner allocated to our area of the hotel.  She was very polite at all times, and did not try to enter room whilst we were there.

We stayed on a half board basis, and were surprised at the excellent standard of the range of meals available both morning & evening.

There was a variety of entertainment in the evening during the week.

The walk to Puerto Rico along front brings you down to the harbour area, which we found useful when using the ferry to Mogan & Arguineguin.  They also run jet skis & other watersports from this area.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

The Gloria Palace is a beautiful 4* hotel built into the cliffs between Puerto Rico and Amadores beach.  The hotel itself is top notch, all rooms have a sea view, aircon, nice balconies, fab power shower and are finished to a high specification.  Maid service is everyday.

There are 4 blocks of rooms 2 blocks overlooking the pool and 2 blocks below facing directly out to sea.  I personally think the pool view is slightly nicer.

The Thalasotherapy centre on site is well worth a visit.  For ?17 (10% discount for hotel guests) you can spend 2 hours in the Get In Shape pool which is sea water heated and features bubble jets, massage jets etc.

You can stay at the hotel on B&B rate, half board or all inclusive.  The breakfast has everything from fruit, cereal to full cooked, cold meats and cheeses.  All that you could want.

If you are on the half board option you can swap your evening meal to the lunch option at any time by asking at reception.

The food on a day and evening is typical euro buffet.  Don't get me wrong there is plenty of choice e.g. lunch is served by one of the pools and consists of a selection of salads, hot food selection and fresh meat or fish however its all at a tepid temperature.

The evening meal is served in the restaurant and had soups, salad, cold meats, cheese, hot counter, fresh cooked meat and fish, pizza counter and massive dessert selection.

Now I am a fussy eater and I found it hard work there - as a vegetarian my only option at lunch time was salad and chips and my only evening option was salad, chips and cheese and tomato pizza.

The thing that lets the hotel down is the service or lack of it at the bars and restaurant.  After much observation it can be split into 4 levels:- Spanish service (straight away), all inclusive service (comes next), Scandinavian service (3rd in line) and British service.  We were blatently ignored on many occasions, talked about (as a Spanish speaker I was well aware of what was being said) and just generally treated with contempt.  After 10 years of holidaying in Puerto Rico, this service is not typical of the resort or any restaurant I have ever been in.

The bar prices are also in line with a 4* hotel paying e1.8 for a e0.45 bottle of water, pints at e3.10.  There is no shop on site therefore you are tied to buying all your drinks on site.  There is however a small fridge in your room so you could buy off site and put in there.

I would definately visit the hotel again, however I would never stay anything more than B&B rate.  You can get far higher quality food in the restaurants around about.

Just returned from a week in the Gloria Palace.  Having read through the reviews on this website I wasn't sure what to believe.  From start to finish we had a wonderful time.

On checking in we were offered a glass of champagne and an orange juice for our grandson.  The room was on the 7th floor, immaculately clean and overlooking the sea and one of the two pools.

The food was fabulous, lots of choice.  Breakfast was anything you could really want, bacon, eggs, fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurts and also catered for other nationalities with cold meats, cheese, different pastries and breads.  The waiters are helpful and polite.

The kiddies club was not as well organised as some, but our 4 year old made loads of friends and had a wonderful time.  He loved the mini-disco.  The glass lift is great, go to Amadores beach (turn right out of the lift).  It is further away than Puerto Rico (which is a left turn out of the lift) but a nicer beach.  Puerto Rico itself is not as nice as we remembered from four years ago.

I would not recommend going here if you want a cultural, touring holiday, but if you want guaranteed sunshine early in the season and a relaxing holiday in a lovely hotel I highly recommend the Gloria Palace.  By the way be sure to treat yourself to a pedicure (1 hour of pampering) and a manicure or even a facial.  Beautiful facilities.

Enjoy!!

Visited the Gloria Palace Amadores at the end of March 05 for two weeks with my husband. Weather was lovely and we hired a car for a week , as its worth exploring Gran Canaria - both other beaches, resorts and inland villages etc. although watch the driving it was a bit hair raising sometimes! Anyway hotel is right on the sea front, great views, 5 mins to puerto rico along the sea front path (lovely to walk along after dinner ) and a little further the other way to amadores beach.

We were on all inclusive and all drinks (except international brands, but that did not matter ) cocktails, bottled water were included. Buffet meals in the restaurant, which were ok, although you do get a bit 'buffet out' after a bit..but as we were on all inclusive we also had dinner there aswell, which i really enjoyed as the restaurant was quieter and it was nice to get of the sun for a little while..the snack bar menu by the pool was poor, don't know why when the main restaurant had such a choice.

Anyway we had a lovely fortnight and I would recommend the hotel..

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We found this to be rather disappointing hotel.  Not a really bad hotel, just sloppy here and there (particularly in the restaurant), and a tad unfriendly.  Some previous reviewers would have you believe this is a top notch hotel.  It isn't.  There are much better hotels than this one on Gran Canaria, and for less money.

To be fair, the hotel was clean, the rooms were quite nice, and maid service up to scratch.  There were two pools, with plenty of sunbeds at all times - no need for getting up at 5:00am to reserve beds at this hotel.  Plenty of space between the sunbeds too, so you didn't feel like a sardine, like you do at the Maspalomas Princess.  Reception staff were efficient, but much less friendly than we have experienced before.

The restaurant was where the hotel really failed to cut it.  Some of the staff were OK, but others were sullen and surly.  Plates, dishes, and cutlery were often dirty and unusable.  The grub was mostly decent, if a little biased towards German tastes.  However, on occasions some of the food was virtually stone cold.  Not good enough.  The labelling was also somewhat erratic.  Quite often, some items of food were not labelled, and so you didn't always know what you were putting on your plate.  You needed to be down to dinner by 7:00pm at the latest, to avoid the noise and congestion that occurred when most guests wanted to eat.  At these times, the restaurant closely resembled a badly disciplined school canteen, rather than a 4-star hotel.  Very unpleasant.  After 8:00pm, you had little difficulty in finding a vacant table, but great difficulty in finding one that had been cleared and set.

Breakfast was available from 7:30am, but on three mornings there was no coffee or juices till after 8:00am.  Guests only had water to drink.  When the other drinks did eventually arrive, there was an almighty scramble to grab the coffee flasks.  Not a pretty sight.  Some mornings the coffee was so cool you had to drink it as soon as you poured it from the flasks.  On another morning, there were no toasters available, as they had been unplugged overnight, and no member of staff could work out how to reconnect them.  On another morning, the restaurant was left totally unlit till well after 8:00am.  Overall, a very sloppy restaurant.

We had a party of Spanish cyclists in the hotel for three nights.  The hotel management provided these push-bikers with their own exclusive area of the restaurant, for both breakfast and dinner.  How nice for them.  The rest of us (second-class guests) were forbidden to enter this area.  An Irish couple strayed onto the "forbidden zone", and were quickly ushered away.  The cyclists were always late for both breakfast and dinner, and so their "zone" remained completely unused during earlier sittings.  This arrangement (surprise, surprise) placed a huge demand on the remaining space in the restaurant.  The "second class guests" had to scramble to grab the remaining tables.  It was chaotic.  In response, the management subsequently tried to overcome the cock-up by providing more "second class guest" tables.  However, (surprise, surprise) as the tables for the "hoi polloi" were closer together, this created new problems.  There was a lot of guests totally p'd off on those days.

I asked if all the lifts were still available for the "second class guests", or were some of the lifts reserved for the cyclists only?  I was assured the lifts were available for everyone.  No preferential treatment here.  This is a hotel that knows how to behave towards its guests.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

The Gloria Palace is in an amazing location built into the cliff between Puerto Rico and the Amadores. Our room was on the lower block and it's exactly as it appears in the brochures and their website, no complaints at all on that front. The rooms are large, well decorated and the beds are comfortable.  The bathrooms are large with a seperate toilet, excellent shower pressure.  The restaurant is busy but we always got a table quickly, if you need a table for more than 2 though, go earlier or later and avoid the dinner rush between about 7.45 and 8.30.  The quality of the food for breakfast and dinner was excellent.  No matter how fussy an eater you are, you will get something to suit you.  The pools are fabulous and even though the hotel was full the week we were there (schools closed in Ireland and England) we always got a sunbed and umberella no matter what time we went to the pool.

There is a down side to the Gloria Palace though.  The service in the main bar is ATROCIOUS.  We arrived late on our first night so decided to have a drink or two in the hotel rather than go out. It took 15 mins of sitting at the bar waving to every barman who passed to get served.  We went out for a drink into PR after dinner every other night except on our last night, my wife wanted to see a show in the hotel and from the time we sat down to me getting my correct change was 65 minutes.......  The same standard of service is apparant at the pool snack bars ( 10 or 15 mins is not unusual)  The only places to get a drink promptly from friendly staff is the bar beside reception ( an older bar man with grey hair was there most nights ) and the bar down on the promonade ( Vanessa )  There was a manager wandering around ( younger guy in a dinner jacket) but he hadn't a clue !!!!  My wife spoke to him in the bar when we could not get served and he shrugged his shoulders and walked away !!!!!!!

The thalossatherapy centre was excellent and well worth the money, I used the treatment pool 3 times.  My wife had a facial and a massage and was happy with everything.

It's an easy walk into PR if you use the lower entrance onto the promenade, 2 or 3 minutes to the harbour and another 10 minutes to the commercial centre.  It closes at 11.30 so after that get a taxi.

Over all the Gloria Palace is very good but go out at night, don't sit in the bar !!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

This was my seventh visit to PR and I was looking forward to staying in a hotel rather than the rather shabby apartments that have been the only option until recently.

This hotel is marketed as a 4 star but that is clearly wrong as it is far too big and the general service too poor to be worthy of this rating.

Whilst most of the staff were  helpful there were times when the hotel's service let it down.

We were all inclusive yet at the end the hotel tried to charge us for drinks that we had not consumed.  When challenged they eventually backed down but with poor grace and little explanation.

I would agree that the rooms are large and the balconies private yet some were a little shabby and looked as if they had been finished in a hurry.  Also try to get a room at the end of a corridor as this is a very noisy hotel with fire doors contnually banging and without carpet on the floors you can hear everyone entering and leaving their rooms.

The rooms were very clean and there was a daily maid service.

The menus at the snack bars were limited to 5 options and the meals in the buffet whilst varied were often cold and on one occasion the chicken was still raw!  The hotel was getting more busy during our stay and mealtimes became a bit sressful as it was like joining a scrum to get near the food.  It would seem that there are simply not enough hot food areas for the number of people in the hotel.

I think that on balance it is safer to stay at a hotel that is part of a large large chain.  For value for money and comfort the Rui Palace at Meloneras in Maspalomas is a much better bet.I would not stay in this hotel again.

We thought that PR seemed rather quiet during this visit but if you only go to one bar make it Bar Swing on the top level of the main shopping centre in phase 3.  The owner is lovely, the music fab and the Irish coffees to die for especially since it rained for a few days during our visit!!!

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

Just returned from the Gloria Palace this week,we have been to a few 4 star Hotels but i dont know why this is not a 5 Star.  the rooms are spacious and modern, most rooms have a sea view the Hotel is built on a cliff face and the lift will take you down to sea level,The hotel has a pool and a bar on the Roof and the same at ground level, and also a brilliant spa witch took us Days to find ,dispite what ive read the staff speak good English an usually serve the people sitting down first so if your sitting at the bar you might have to wait.

the entertainment is usual hotel standerd, and the Parrot show is the one Night you might want to leave the hotel, Puerto rico itself because of its design is not one of the best resorts,If your going to buy any Electrical goods stay away from the first row of shops you you come to when you leave the hotel and go to the main centre. Taxi from Airport prebooked on net 38Euros.

irst impressions of the hotelas we walked in at about mid night was that it looked very nice reception staff were polite. then we got to our room and was very impressed at the size of the accommadation, clean to start with, from then on it got quite disappointing breakfast was ok they only had small plates eat your breakfast of,the eveningmeal was yout typicalhotel food quite boring we ate out in puerto rico on a few occasions.

the animacion boys and girls seem to have no enthusiasm for the joband just seem tobe there to pass the day, the service at the loer poolbar was ok but if only they would just smile and say hello (even in spanish)it would make a big difference. in the eveningin the main bar we never watched the entertainment so we cannot comment on itas we went to puerto rico every night.we used to get back to the hotel about 11 30 pmto wath a key board player and a girl singer that were quite boring but when the spanish guests wre there they played nothing but spanish music, i like spanish music but this is supposed to be an intrnational hotel and they should please everyone.the worst thing about the main bar is thetime it ook to get a drink about 30 mins the waiters seem obsessed with linning up the tables and chairs rather than serving you a drink.sounds silly but the hotel has no personality and we found it quite boring one tip if you do go to this hotel on half board is tosign for all your drinks and extras on your pass card then pay your bill at the end of your stay this saves you tipping the staff every time you get a drink,

also when you check out of yuor room at 12 noon that is when your stay ends at the hotel we paid 30 euros to keep the room untill 6pm as uor flight wasnot until 23 10pmwe thought this entitled us to the evening meal but no we were charged another36 euros. i am sorry to say we will not be going back to this hotel

having been to the malibu 2 years ago we visited amadores beach for the day so we knew the area of our choice, we waited till 2 weeks before departure to book and got a great price.
we were not disapointed all scots from all areas who all supported different teams it is NOT a RANGERS RESORT,Tracey and Craig the reps were lovely very helpful.

apartments spotless,we did shop next door in the mirador(it was cheaper). the bars on the beach were expensive to eat in 52 euros for family of 4 for 1 course compared to the europa centre 35 euro per family but the portofino on the beach was nice.

Mogan was beautiful but we went on market day too busy, it would have been better another day you would have got a better veiw of the town(but go on the boat) heard the bus is scarey.
on returning we got delayed for 4 days and were put up in playa de ingles all inclusive. well done seguro their aircraft was grounded at prestwick,
we would definitly go back with seguro once they have splashed out on a new aircraft.
playa de ingles never too many couples of various sexes(male aand female) makin an exehabition of themselves keep it for your room.
gran amadores a family resort

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

My wife and i decided to book these apartments after staying right in the centre of puerto rico accross from the commercial centre on our last two visits.
The reason behind this is the music seems to go on all night (and very loud) at the commercial centre, so for the sake of getting at least some sleep we came to this quieter part of the resort.
On arrival at las palmas airport, we were very quicly greeted by Tracy (our rep), and shown to our bus, which was excellent considering we came with aspro in october and there were crowds of us with no guide to be found and not knowing which bus to take for about 30 minutes.
Tracy gave everyone a warm welcome and a list of the do's and don'ts of the resort before checking us in at reception.

On entering the apartment we were pleased with the size and layout, although a kettle would be nice.
The apartments are an all scottish based, which is great in some ways but not in others (mainly the celtic/rangers element), which we discovered on our first night when some guy tried his best to wind me up about being a celtic fan, something i don't argue about at home never mind on hoilday.
After a while getting more annoyed with him, i got up and left rather than cause any hassle, i wasn't going to let him ruin my holiday.
He approached me the next day to try and apologise, to which i told him where to go, to stay away from me and grow up!!!
Apart from him, all the other guests were great fun, especially aaron and his family (a funny guy with great taste in music), and many more really nice people just there for a drink and a laugh.
The food at the bar was ok if you couldn't be bothered going out, and the drinks served during the happy hours were very generous.

There was a lack of entertainment with only three karaokes in the whole fortnight which was dissappointing.
Also beware the two guys who bring the birds of prey in for a show, yes they're lovely birds and you get them flying onto your arm which is ok.
Then the snag, you pay 20 euroes for two pictures with the birds, one large pic, and one smaller, At least thats what they tell you!!!
You are given a receipt to take to reception the next day to collect your pics only to find one instead of two.
On approaching the men on their next visit you are told they will be in the next day, strange considering they are both the same photo!!
A week went by then they returned, i asked where other pic was and was told everyone else had theirs, which i proved wrong by asking the others still waiting to confirm this.
We were then all told that reception mus've lost them so they would return next day with replacements or a part refund.
We never saw them again so watch out for these guys.

All in all it was a great holiday and i would recomend these apartments to anyone.

We were in Peurto Rico in Sept and had a great time staying at the Gran Amadores, the apts were spacious and kept very clean with the maids in 5 times aweek, and they were well equiped with microwave cooker and sat TV.All the activity centered around the pool bar day and night. The staff were great and were always joining in with the crazy fun that was going on.we were fortunate enough to meet a wonderful crowd of people and as it was all scots we all looked out for each other and the kids,we were all like one big family. The resort itself is spotless with lots of places to eat and have a great time, and Peurto Rico only a short taxi ride away. Dont forget to ask the staff at the pool bar about the Club Reps party night it is something we will never forget as we and our crowd were the club reps.On our last night the bar staff threw a party for us and it was brilliant.

so if you are thinking of going to Gran Canaria go to the Gran Amadores you wont be dissapionted.

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

We arrived at the Gran Amadores late on the Sunday night and our first impressions were good. Got to our apartment, which was basic, but clean. I was very pleased to see it had a microwave, toaster and a decent sized fridge freezer. Although only 1 drawer for clothes which we stumbled upon accidentally - it's the wee brown table that sits between the 2 beds in the bedroom.

No air-con in these apartments but that's easily solved with a fan, but hire from hotel next door, ?6 compared to ?25 in the Gran Amadores. In fact I'd go to the hotel next door (Mirador Atlantico) for most things, like entertainment (day & night) and definitely for their mini-market (level 2 in lift) the Gran Amadores is extortionate for just about everything.

Before I go any further there is a great big building site right out the back of the Gran Amadores, and by the looks of things it'll be there a while yet. Noise constant everyday!

There really is nothing for kids here unless they are happy spending all day in the pool. 2 big pools, 1 baby pool. But next door have a kids club and its no problem for the people staying at the Gran Amadores to go and join in.

There is a coastal walk-way which takes about 15 mins to get you to the harbour at Puerto Rico, but there is another good 15 mins walk from there to the Commercial centre. It's a very nice walk and very clean but if you go when it's really hot, the heat will take a lot out of you! You'll get a fair amount of time-share people giving you scratch cards and asking you to help them with a "survey", and probably win a free holiday. Just keep walking and tell them you were there yesterday!

There is a lot of good eating places down at the beach area, but the best one for us was in the Commercial centre, called San Miguel (left hand side near the beginning). It usually has people queuing up to get in, but well worth it and very good priced. Chinese restaurant called Slow Boat is also good but don't go for the buffet.

The Gran Amadores is also known as the Rangers Resort, which we didn't know until we got there. So if you're not into football or support Celtic, stay clear. We were fortunate enough to be there when there was an Old Firm match on, and we had a handful of Celtic supporters but 95% of our hotel were rangers - so yes they had a disagreement which ended up in a punch up. But that was sorted only lasted a few minutes then back to normal!!!

Other than what I just said I did find it to be quite a friendly hotel to stay in, the people were nice. And everyone was local, nearly all West of Scotland people from Ayr to Glasgow.

Not sure if I'd go back there, felt it was a little out of the way. Although the taxi's were very cheap ?3 into the commercial centre so not too bad if you got fed up walking! It is also handy for going to Puerto de Mogan, bus stop right outside hotel. A lovely little village with a very big market on a Friday and a submarine ride if you fancy it. Very scary bus journey though.

Along with my family I was delayed on the both the outward and return flight ( I was delayed due to flight changes and delays for almost 20 hours). I was also subjected to the building work taking place directly behind the apartments. I can also state that I have been duly compensated by Seguro holidays.

I found the location was ideal (apart from the building work). I cannot fault the staff within the apartments and I also enjoyed the entertainment provided by the complex as it consisted of karaoke that was provided by the guests. It was a scream at times. Yes the accomodation is basic along with the entertainment but it is enjoyable. The premises next door do provide entertainment most nights and if you wish you can attend there you can. I would attend again at here as long as the building work was completed.

Al I cab say is don`t go before you check out 1/ is there still deafening building work most days -all day and 2/ what are your guaranteed flight times .
Sefuro holidays seem to move people around the lists for their flight time .
We did receive £360 compensation for our noisy holiday + flight changes but only after a fight with seguro .
The other thing is I was embarassed by some of the holiday makers , most were lovely but some were nothing but loudmohed dunken yobs who belong in an episode of rab c nesbit .Fighting at 2 am in the morning and singing the sash were not my idea of a family holiday.
The `reception staff `-depened on who you got , 1 was ok but the others seemed to get their money by sitting at the bar eating all day .

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

The resort of Amadores is lovely, the beach is beautifull, the restuarants on the promenade are all good, try to go to Tattoo and definately go to La barca you won't be disappointeed. Not a lot of shops in there so you would have to go to the Commercial Centre by taxi, or into Puerto Rico which is a 20 minute walk or a short taxi ride.

Arrived at apartments about 7 in the morning, went to go into the lift with our cases and looked out to see diggers  about 30 feet away, tried not to be put off, got the head down ready to sleep and the work started soon after.  The building work goes on Mon to Fri, sometimes 8 till 8, no workings on a Sat/Sun.  The noise is deafening in the apartments, you have to go out most of the day, you can't hear it too much at the pool area as music is played. There is also building work adjacent to the apartments and also some workings going on at the beach area, we were not told of any of this prior to travelling.

The apartments are ok, but are starting to look a bit tired considering they have only been opened for a few years, the balconies are very close together you don't have a lot of privacy, the sound does carry at night and you are advised to buy or hire a fan and keep your windows shut if you want a sleep as it can sometimes get a bit noisy, this may depend on the time of year you go there.

This complex is exclusive to Seguro, the receptionist also runs the shop, apart from that the place seems to run itself, it does not seem too professional. The maids are excellent and work very hard, you get one linen change per week, two towel changes which is not nearly enough . There are two main pools, which  one always looked a bit cloudy, some kids got ear infections, there was also loose tiles which had not been fixed
